Great tips. I retie my locs every 6 to 8 weeks. It all depends on my new growth. Never retighten your hair to the point it’s just laying on your scalp and yes, moisturize your locs before and during reties so the tool can glide through without any breakage. Locs are fairly low maintenance so by just having a routine and staple products will make your loc journey easy and enjoyable ❤️❤️❤️

I usually go about 6-7 weeks my hair grows really fast in certain areas so I might retie those areas first before fully retightening my whole head.

I definitely do my retie on dry hair😂😬I just felt like I didn’t like doing it on wet hair and I have a spray bottle with a little oil that I spray on my hair every 1-2 days like I’m a plant

I have definitely connected locs while tired and rushing! 😫 nightmare to undo! I’ve also made the mistake of not braiding and banding long enough. I experienced so much bunching that I HAD to fix. It was not cute at all.

Unfortunately for my son I learned all this with his locs. Went too long to retie and he had so many locs married at the roots. It was a painful process for him. I have done his retie while his hair was dry 🤦🏾‍♀️. Again, a painful process for him. Also did them too tight before and ended up losing a loc or two because it was just too painful and i cut it. So through trial and error with him I'm hoping I do better with my own.

I’ve been dealing with frizziness at the top even after reties. I think it’s just the texture of that section. My back left side is long and the right side has shrinkage…😩🥴 But I’m 3months in and I still love it. Thanks for the videos💜 #DIYMicroLocs

Thank you for sharing, and you and your locs are beautiful! I've had my microlocs for 4 months and my retie schedule has been every 8 weeks. I'm tender-headed and I wonder should if I should stretch out my retie to 10 weeks. Can you tell me how many inches of new growth you should have in between reties? I have about 1-inch growth at 8 weeks. Should I have 2 inches new growth between reties?

Heey gal, the style is a look! I do my reties around 6wks or so, but i recently had to repair the front edges inbetween the retie, reason being alot of 'standing' baby hairs that dont seem to get into the edge locs. I really had to fix them in (not all baby hair, just some that are longer) coz they seem to grow far away from those locs (and they are too tiny to have their own loc). It's been so irritating but I managed! Just needed a neater look at the front coz honestly, you finish your retie and you still look like you haven't done anything! Does anyone else suffer from this? The other thing is I've been using water during my reties except for the last retie..and quite frankly it went way faster. Ofcos there's some crackling here and there due to mistakes and whatnot but its worked for me and I wont be using it as often as I used to. I think each person knowing how their hair is should choose whether to use it or not. Some say don't use water coz when u do, you can overtighten ur hair since it has become more manipulative, others say use water to manipulate. To each their own. If any works for you, well then. FYI, I didnt have alot of parting to do. I think having too much growth that requires constant parting may force u to use water to easen your process. (sorry for the essay :-D)

Yes my reties are like that. It still looks really frizzy and like I haven't done anything but I can tell when I run my hands through my locs that they are retightened. I think sometimes I do my reties better than others because one time my mom even noticed I had retightened my hair. It's usually sisterlockers that I see retightening their hair dry and DIY microlocers that retighten wet. I've always done it wet but I'm here for anything that makes a retightening go faster.
