I keep coming back to this as well. It bums me out that his albums aren't just him and his guitar. It sounds so much better this way. Perhaps now that Oliver Anthony blew up, that authentic, acoustic sound can finally be embraced again by record labels. A guy like Childers, with all his soul and great songwriting, should be heard in his purest form.

Yeah country is not bad at all. There is a lot of crap but too me it's like the same thing with Rap. If you are interested I would recommend Jason Isbell, Sturgil Simpson, or Chris Stapleton if you want to put your foot into the genre of Country music. Surgil and Jason are both great song writers while Chris just has an amazingly Bluesy voice

I saw Tyler at the Cat’s Cradle in Carrboro, NC with Colter Wall and it may have been one of the best shows I have ever seen. Colter opened and Tyler played for almost 3 hours straight after. It was incredible. They were playing in the smaller room and would go out and mingle between sets because there is no backstage area. They are awesome guys, awesome entertainers and awesome songwriters. Music in America has been polished to an annoying level, its about time we have some down dirty gritty music again and I think these two are good ambassadors of that movement.

She is considered the bridge between traditional and modern folk music. Roscoe Holcomb was born here. He was the inspiration for the term "high lonesome sound". J.D. Crowe was born here, as was Hylo Brown, Loretta Lynn, Tom T. Hall, Grandpa Jones, Darrell Scott, Ricky Skaggs, Keith Whitley, Merle Travis, Gary Stewart, Joan Osborne, The Everly Brothers and The Osborne Brothers. I could name a lot more. It puts me to the mind of Tyler's "Banded Clovis". Chris's brother, Dirk, told me many years ago he knew Chris was going to make it in country music when Chris first played him "Down The River". Other Chris Knight songs you may want to check out for a start are "Little Victories" with John Prine, "Rural Route", "Becky's Bible", "Leaving Souvenirs", "Me And This Road", "It Ain't Easy Being Me", "Crooked Road", "William" or either of his versions of "Old Man".

And then Appalachian people get nothing but hate and derision from everyone (mostly people in cities) even though they're struggling. They get called white trash and whatever other insult by people who will then turn around and say they care about poor people. It's socially acceptable to make fun of them in many places for some reason even though they've been exploited in many ways over the years, especially by the coal industry and pharma companies. I remember when I first heard this tiny desk, it was the first time I heard Tyler and man I was in for a treat! He is such a powerful songwriter, his lyrics are so heartfelt and the tone in his voice conveys raw emotion in an incredible way. The three songs here contrast beautifully. Nose on the Grindstone hits so hard and speaks the voice of thousands, while 22nd Winter is so descriptive and uplifting. Lady May is just incredibly sweet and you can really feel the love he has for her in the words and the expressions on his face while thinking about the words he is singing. This man can write songs like no one else and the world should be ashamed that his name isn’t in every household!

"I ain't the toughest hickory....but I'm a hickory just as well, I'm a hickory all the same." What beautiful and vulnerable insight for a young man to lay raw and exposed. The unintended irony is it makes him the best hickory anyone could ever find or want. God bless this boy from the hills of Kentucky baring his soul for all to see. He's truly special.

Tyler Childers I'm just a country boy from Texas where we're know for being big. Whether it be badasses or big heart. You hit me in my big heart and I appreciate it. Keep doing what you're doing. Keep on keepin' on.

I’m late to this party, but am on the fast track to catch up! I heard him at a friends house a few weeks ago and haven’t stopped listening since. Truly addictive for us Americana lovers; but it’s more than that. Childers is one of the really special ones. His voice conveys so much emotion and his lyrics are soooo good. Thank you, Tyler! I’m so happy to have something new that I’ll play FOREVER! ❤️

One of those Kentucky artists that showing up even my proud Texas songwriting heritage for good storytelling. Even Texas music is drifting from good storytelling to "party country". Thanks Tyler for keeping songwriting true.

You may not be the sharpest chisel that your lovely lady may has ever held... but you can make another bloke five thousand miles away bawl like a new born with your songs... now I come to think of it... that ain't much consolation. ;)

Nose on the grindstone makes my chest shudder listening to it. Everything in this song my father has said to me. My daddy preaches about the grindstone. Has my whole life. I can't get enough of Tyler's music.
