I don’t understand where people get this logic that Tyler doesn’t have black fans like I’m aware that majority of his fan base is white but you can’t single out the black kids who are actually OK with being their authentic self and listens to Tyler and buys golf Le Flure and goes to his shows that’s literally me and my friends 😭😔

America is literally 70% white, so the fact is that Ian and Tyler will always have majority whites. But white people having a say on who's Hip-hop and who's not without ever knowing what Hip-hop is frustrating.

@@Loi_of_Earthwhy do white people not know what hip hop is. That’s your assumption. Did you speak to Ian personally? 🤡 Tyler benefits from his whiteness and the ppl it appeals to but has internal resentment for it at the same time. It’s like Matt Rife and his female fans. Now he panders to his target audience which is just a sign of how he wants to view himself, bc if he was been authentic he’d realize he did the same shit

Most rappers dont though thats the issue. Tyler picked the lazy/goofy white kid as a prime example. When we got rappers doing murder chants, murder anthems, and these dudes not even always like that. We got people rapping about drugs and dont use. It weird the culture itself is on some bull shit

I think you’re missing Tyler‘s point. He doesn’t have a problem with him as a person or his image. He has a problem with his music because his music is not original or unique like a Mac Miller. and also the Drake and Frank Ocean thing is a terrible point because Tyler‘s fans wanted to see Frank Ocean because they have history together, and they literally came up together and it would’ve made more sense for Frank Ocean because they’re connected with Frank Ocean and Frank Ocean is in the world of Tyler, The Creator. And Tyler literally put on Earl Sweatshirt and everyone else in odd future who were rappers and you say he just put on an alternative band is crazy.

No such thing as “acting black”. I cringe anytime someone says that, lol. I don’t fuck with Ian’s music, but at the same time, industry plant or not, Ian has his place currently on the game as much as Tyler does. The criticism, I can understand, but outside of the surface level frustration, it’s really not even worth stressing over. Rap fans like to act like we care about if you’re really trapping or not. When it comes to the average hip hop listener, they’re just trying to have fun listening to the music, while the FANS of hip hop can have a deeper involvement when it comes to the legitimacy of the lyrics and the substance. Ian probably appeals to the former crowd and that’s ok.

I understand Tyler's point, but people have to realize that rap music has evolved from what it started it out as. If you look at the underground scene (where Ian came out of), its extremely diverse, reaching people of all social classes, people of diverse ethnicities and backgrounds, and creating a more diverse range of artists due to the ability of the internet to unite people. Ian was literally involved in this culture, he produced a song for Izaya Tiji way back. He's always been a fan, and he has the musical ability to create similar sounding music? Also the mocking claims are somewhat justifiable, but at the same time he has his own unique style, and it's not like he's intentionally making fun of rappers or the culture.

It’s deeper than rap bruh it’s the fact that nothing he is making is innovative or satire or 3:11 funny, or different it’s some shit you would hear on sound cloud four years but because his production is good and because he’s white is what makes him different but that is also why Tyler hates it. It’s the same for jack horlow if your adding to the culture then your just taking away it may not seem that way but that is the reality most rat fans are white so they’ll listen to a white rapper just cause and vice versa. I’m not saying his music is bad. All I’m saying is this music really has no substance which inherently makes it bad for rap music as a whole

I get where you're coming from, and thanks for stating the positives from Tyler perspective, but honestly i think you're wrong. I understand how ian might have a connection with future and gucci mane, because he does sound like your average rapper, which, at this time in hip hop, been heavily influenced by future and Gucci. The problem that I believe tyler is poking at is the artists who are just copyng the works of already great artists. C'mon in the interview tyler says something about this, and the he names kanye and some other artists who had a style and sound. This is true for most of hiphop artists, ian inclusive. Honestly I'm also tired of unoriginality in music.

Respect your opinion on this one but I think you miss the mark, I don't think Tyler has a problem with Ian being a good kid I think he has a problem with the cynical marketing tactics of "WHITE SUBURBAN GUY BUT SOUNDS BLACK?"I don't really like the marketing strategy either because it's just highlighting a person who is kind of mediocre at the style when there was easily a black artist who is not going to blow up the same way because they may sound the same or be the same amount of talented but he doesn't have the same avenue of promo that Ian did

I don't think you represented his point accurately, he was referring to how Ian sounds, and nothing to do with him being white, since he mentioned liking Mac Miller and Eminem because of how original they sounded and how original and real their stories are. We don't even know what Ian about really. To Tyler he sounds like artists that already exists, because he even mention back in the 2000s how most artists sounded different to each other (for the most part). To be fair he may be incorrect about who Ian sounds like, but he's overall point of Ian not sounded original I kinda agree with. Using trap Gunna type beats, over the coarse sounding autotune which you could argue Future uses, is what I think he was going for, basically he's riding off of a sound that's trending and already exists just in a different package
