Ian is nowhere near where Tyler was even a decade ago. Even Tyler's worst, earliest work had more cohesive artistic vision, better storytelling, and more influence. While Tyler did lean into some gimmicks he payed respects to the Eminem's, Jay-z's, and Kanye's that inspired him. I don't see Ian holding a consistent following even 2 or 3 years from now, while even through all of Tyler's bullshit he maintained cultural and artistic relevance.

My thing is, the "outsider" and "creative rapper" identity that ppl see in Ian is just disingenuous when he looks like the cookie cutter suburb kid with wealthy parents

I don't get why people can just either enjoy the music or don't. And I don't get why people ALWAYS compare an artist to another artist. So what if another artist sounds similar to someone else? If the music is good, it's good. If it's not it's not. Move on.

the point isn't the music (kinda) its mainly about how hes literally mocking the pillars of this genre.

@Zayto_982 ай бұрын
Doing something similar is a wild thing to say . Tyler’s music has never sounded close to another artist . It’s about being original. When you sound like everyone else it gets stale . They call it growth but it’s just a bunch of clones . ( not talking about unique sounding artist )
@sharifshannon1310 күн бұрын
The whole aspect of a lot of this is the fact that music isn’t selling by itself. That’s why in the last decade an artist is defined by how many shows they can sell out. If you’re able to get a decent headcount for a concert appearance an artist will be successful. Because while you may be able to fake streams numbers , you can’t fake concert attendance numbers.

i opened that maverick interview as soon as it dropped on yt and holy i was so glad tyler said it cause people wouldn’t listen to me when i did. and im also glad you and the people here also agree. and you are right to hold the industry and labels accountable for pushing this shit. the industry used to push for quality rappers only and was a lot more picky on who they chose. don’t forget kanye was literally laughed at by the music industry early in his career. now we have ians who become famous overnight 😂

Even Tyler’s “BASTARD” makes these industry plants look like grey paste with sprinkles on being forced on us comparison. We thought “the industry” would lose control and it would be lead by artists with the gates coming down via tech… But clearly that’s somehow reversed.
@who.is.kalebomari2 ай бұрын
I agree with Tyler to an extent. I honestly didn't think he was talking about Ian until he said "regular caucasian man" lmao. But it's not just Ian, you could name a couple of rappers that fit the description Tyler was talking about. But I have no problem with the existence of the Ians and the Ice Spices of the world. Because in a sense, we need them. Their songs are made for parties, clubs, and just convenience overall. Like "fast food" as stated in the video. The problem is, it feels like the "fast food" rappers are all we have now. And to an extent I blame the generation before us. Jay-Z fostered in Kanye, Rihanna, and J Cole, 3 of the greatest artists of the 2000's/2010's. They had the ability to give us "fast food" type music every once in a while, but they also had the talent to give us a "home cooked meal" in their music. It had substance. The older rappers aren't passing the ball anymore like Jay-z did. That's why we're still looking for Kanye or Rihanna to drop an album, they should've been passed the torch. Same with the Drake's of the world, J Cole, Kendrick too. Kendrick tried to give us Baby Keem, but meh. Travis Scott helped give us Don Tolliver, cool. But other than that, the substance rappers haven't taken the responsibility to give us the next generation of rappers with substance. Like your grandmother, taught your mother her family recipes. But then the mother didn't give those recipes to her daughter. That's why the daughter don't know how to cook and only want fast food lmao same concept. That's key with the music industry as well, because the "fast food" music is a machine. they have the formula, and they can just plug-n-play with any person who can make a rhyme. It don't take long to make, it don't require a lot of work, and they can put it out as many songs as they like, the quality isn't as important ie "fast food" music. When you're going against a machine like that, you need the help of the generation before you to help you top the quality, or at least match it with more substance and make it appealing to the masses.

I think Tyler is just upset with how easy it is for people now to make music and how there’s so many artists and branches and genres of rap now that anyone can pretty much do anything and make it a career because he started making music in a time when it wasn’t as easy to do that and he’s upset because they have it easy and they don’t understand how hard it is and they don’t understand what music is to people and Tyler isn’t wrong for that but he’s not right either music is a form of art and people copy art if they like it like a lot of art now is really similar it’s just about influence and people have set a path for these new artists to make it easier and Tyler didn’t have that privilege

Yuno knows he’s a joke, he started out as a SoundCloud rapper and the only reason he got on a Ye song is cause North wanted him on. Ian acts like he’s more than a generic bootleg, just listen to his holiday intro, tryna act like he’s bigger than he is when barely no one knows him.

well i feel like if these new rappers bring back old hip hop more rappers are gonna hate again for "mocking" old hip hop theres no winning for new artists nowadays

The weird shit about Tyler is that he acted like other ppl who have an eclectic taste in music like older stuff are fraudulent even though he himself has that eclectic taste. I don’t even think Ian sounds like Future or Gucci at all but I also grew up on both of them being actually from the south. I just think it’s wild when somebody from Oxnard, Cali speaks on somebody from another place that isn’t as affluent just because he pictures a white dude as somebody who wasn’t inspired by. I ain’t even noticed him act like a gangster or anything in his music

This has been happening since the Beatles. A certain sound is blowing up among the youth & the industry does whatever it can to monopolize it, but this is actually necessary to cause a pushback & force artists to think outside the box & find the new sound that actually resonates with with the youth, not what the industry thinks we’ll like. Same exact thing happened 15 years ago when ringtone rap was being forced down our throats & everyone started gravitating towards internet rappers like Tyler, Kendrick & A$AP who were really doing what no one else was, it creates a need for creativity!
