That skinny rod is what activates the drum brakes it has an adjuster on the end, the aluminum arm is the brake stay arm; it stops the hub from spinning.

On the CR 'S front brake is a. master Cylinder protector to keep it from being damaged. My 87 CR 250 came with one.
