Hey buddy, I got your point in this video. But then how are we gonna know that this is the perfect draft? Because rewriting is nothing but a loop of doing things and scratching.

I really appreciate your focus on philosophical dilemma, as there seems to be a plague of content being made by streaming studios which ammounts to being just a bunch of things happening for base entertaiment value alone. It's a challenge to rise above that, and it's worth it.

The way I do it, not for a page on rewrite: I write every scene(story beat) in one sentence. I do this for every scene. Then I ask myself 10 questions. A few of these questions are: Can you say But or Therefore in between most beats? Can you see the catalyst, first act break, midpoint, second act break, and climax? Does the character have a clear arc? When the 10 questions can be answered the correct way, I go through and fix things like dialogue and format.

Yesterday I learned that sometimes the most effective type of rewriting a scene is to kill it off completely. I was struggling with the scene for many days, but then realised that I struggle to find the right dialogue for the characters because they shouldn't be In that scene at all.

Not being willing to do a page 1 rewrite has held me back for a long time. It's so intimidating to start over! All that hard work thrown away! I have since come to realize it is sometimes essential. I forced myself to do one after completing my last script, and it was a challenging but big growth moment for me. Now I wonder: how common is it that the writer must do *another* page one rewrite for their third draft?

Some of the greatest movies I've ever watched come from Studio Ghibli. And I'm not sure they follow the ethos of philosophical conflict before character. Surely characters are more important, or at least they are on the same level as the philosophical conflict?

Hello sir, I am from India and I have learned screen writing by watching your videos and have even written the first draft of 5 different genres. I just have to do rewriting but I am not able to write. So Sir, can you tell me some way by which there is no need for rewriting and the final draft can be prepared in the first go? I will wait for your reply!

Do you every talk about inciting incident before page 12, also hitting pg 25, 55, 85 with those major thematic elements? From what I have been told by some pretty big writers, is how important it is to make sure your big plot points hit on those pages! Otherwise producers and directors will trash it. As a matter of fact, I'm told they won't even read it until the flip to those pages to see if the line up with theme. This has been a struggle after 2 years and about a couple dozen pass throughs on my script, to be able to hit on those pages. And it seems very true when I watch movies and stop at 25, 55, and 85 minuets. On the good ones, there's always something that hits on those pages pushing the story forward.

Great video. Here's my largest difficulty doing a page one rewrite: there's a high profile teacher out there who says that nobody successful does more than one draft. And, if a successful writer says that they do multiple drafts, they are lying. Now, I don't know if this teacher means this statement as a joke or not, but when I sit down to rewrite, I wonder if I'm not in the "big kids group" of real writers. It is okay to rewrite, isn't it? :-)

"The pleasure is the rewriting: The first sentence can't be written until the final sentence is written. This is a koan-like statement, and I don't mean to sound needlessly obscure or mysterious, but it's simply true. The completion of any work automatically necessitates its revisioning." - Joyce Carol Oates "The only kind of writing is rewriting." - Ernest Hemingway "More than a half, maybe as much as two-thirds of my life as a writer is rewriting. I wouldn't say I have a talent that's special. It strikes me that I have an unusual kind of stamina." - John Irving

As a kid I was so excited when I discovered the word "myriad". Here was this beautifully spelled and wonderfully unique word that acts grammatically in the exact same manner as the word "many". Myriad possibilities. Fast forward to my adult life and everyone from Neil DeGrasse Tyson to YOU now wants to look smart by using it but don't take the time to learn its proper use and proceed to butcher tf right out of it. All the myriad misuses have turned my love for the word into hate. Turned it into a symbol for the dumbing down of society for me. Was that an overreaction? I do that. Btw, thanks for all the vital and extremely helpful info. Despite my unhinged rant, I do love your vids. 👍

Tyler has no references he is a newbie and tries you to sell his own course. It is a making money strategy and you will learn crap from him. It works like a placebo you think you making progress but really you only learn techniques which are not worth to learn and also brings you up from learning your own style of creating new ideas and stories. He only made 1 script, he has not won any Filmfestival/Oscar etc. It is the same for most of the courses. You do not need any paid courses to get good in writing. Do not listen to this bullshit!!!
