Must the philosophical conflict be moral can't it be just an idea on how the machine works or something. I have been watching your videos and I love the idea of a philosophical conflict but I believe that the main point of the story mustn't be moral stuff.

I love the way you look at story and how you explain it and I would really like to support you somehow, but the 1-on-1 talks aren´t aimed at me. This channel here is the most in depth study you will get of traditional Western Storytelling, but study other types too. Japan has some incredible films (namely those of Studio Ghibli) which achieve great films in completley different ways.

I know this is about Philo. Conflict but I wanna ask a question that hopefully someone of this community or our overlord Tyler can answer. It's about storystructure. What if I write a story about a chain of events 1 > 2 > 3 but I wanna write it with flashbacks. So I tell the chain of events like this: 2 > 1 > 3. How does this effect storystructure theory 🤓? Does the TELLING or the EVENTCHAIN work best with the classic structure? I'm not a native English speaker and also kinda dumb so I hope you guys understand my question... if it makes sense.. *EDIT* I will try to explain how this relates to philosopical conflict in my eyes. I wanna move the conflict, the key pinchpoint, to the front of the story. Then I basically explain how the conflict came to be, the inciting incidents (plot turn 1). Then after that I tell how it turns for the worst (pinch 2) and make another plotturn (pplotturn 2) to make the character realize something that helps to ultimately resolves the conflict in an unsatisfactory way (how philosofical!). My story starts way too slow so this is a way to make it better imo. So while writing this I think I gave an answer to my own question, right? The EVENTCHAIN should be in the classic storystructure way. The telling just mixes that one up? Hmm still not sure.

Is it common that you can only show the protagonist’s worst-case scenario in part two, after they’ve defeated the antagonist and got to implement their own vision? 🤔 At least that’s what it looks like to me, when it comes to any kind of standard rebellion plot: Revolutions tend to devour their children, because nobody sees the worst-case scenario of one’s own side coming, until they’re in a position of sufficient power to actually try out their grand ideas in practice. In part one, my protagonist gets to experience the antagonist’s worst-case scenario - which may seem like a win for the antagonist in the moment, but is actually what starts the decline for my antagonist, since she is forced to go full-authoritarian in pursuit of her goals, causing more and more grievances and thereby increasing the number of people opposing her. Keep in mind that, by “worst-case scenario” in a philosophical sense, we don’t mean “What’s the worst thing that could happen to this individual character?”, but rather, “What’s the worst way this character’s convictions could be implemented as a societal system?” As such, a given character’s worst-case scenario might not necessarily harm themselves all that much, but might instead cause a lot of harm to others (including people near and dear to the character themselves).

Internal Conflict has to do with relationships, like self relationship, or relationships with others such as friends or other loved ones, Philosophical Conflict has to do with beliefs and way of life with an example like pacifism vs militarism/violence, External Conflict has to do with your character's goals and quest

I think your advice on craft is great, it’s just unfortunate that you adopted an absolutist ideology as it pertains to story and art. It results in bad advice for artists and storytellers and ends up only meaningfully serving craftsmen, laborers. It’s small but critical adjustment to your teaching (which right now exists with aspects of propaganda). Make no declarations for why story exists, and recognize that craft and art have nothing whatsoever to do with one another. Story and craft have nothing whatsoever to do with one another. Good advice on craft, though. Always enjoy it :)

Tyler has no references he is a newbie and tries you to sell his own course. It is a making money strategy and you will learn crap from him. It works like a placebo you think you making progress but really you only learn techniques which are not worth to learn and also brings you up from learning your own style of creating new ideas and stories. He only made 1 script, he has not won any Filmfestival/Oscar etc. It is the same for most of the courses. You do not need any paid courses to get good in writing. Do not listen to this bullshit!!!

@9:31 “so many writers struggle with…” how do you know this? Why don’t you read from an example where an actual writer did this? Instead of just showing popular movies, where you usually get the point wrong anyway, you should read from an example which does it “wrong”, and then show how you would fix it. Plus you should inject some personality in your speaking, so we don’t fall asleep to your robotic voice. It’s almost as if you are reading from a teleprompter.
