In Scotland we have a Law called the "right to roam" so you can pretty much go whereever you like on someone elses land. The trust part is you leave it as you find it.
@WeeMac5382 жыл бұрын
I hope we can retain this, but friends in Aviemore have had massive clean up jobs to do on the Rothiemurchus Estate and Cairngorm National Park due to people camping and leaving mountains of trash behind. I find this infuriating! We believe in the right to roam but not the right to destroy our beautiful country. They need to impose extremely heavy fines to stop this from happening, and it's not the Scots doing this!

This guy seems to have spent his entire road trip of Scotland on the Isle of Skye. There are many beautiful places in Scotland that are not on Skye! The best way to see them is on foot. I would recommend the East Highland Way between Fort William and Aviemore (the West Highland Way gets a bit crowded) or, if you really want to be alone, the Cape Wrath Trail. As a narrator, he should really work on his pronunciation. He apologised for mispronouncing a few names but seriously mangled all of them!

Yeah, Skye is beautiful., Possibly my favourite part of Scotland, but it is perhaps 'overdone' by tourists. The last couple of times I've visited I've been a bit disturbed by how many tourists there were, not good for the local housing market either. Of course I was also a tourist so can't really complain, even if I am Scottish. But there's lots of beauty in the rest of the Highlands, so worth travelling a bit wider instead of just joining a huge queue around the old man of Storr etc.

Hello Tyler. I am an American who’s lived in Scotland the past 22 years after marrying the most beautiful wonderful Scotsman god ever created. I can in all honesty say Scotland is as beautiful and magical as you could imagine. The highlands are as created by the ice age with huge boulders and rugged land. The wildlife are majestic especially in the snow you can see thousands of deer dotting the hill sides and moving here was the first time in my life I saw complete darkness standing outside and heard complete silence except for the soft breeze and cracking of ice on tree branches. The air is so clean. The history and folklore is where the magic is like on Hogmanay (new years day) a ginger (red) haired person can not enter your house until a dark haired person passes the threshold or you’ll have bad luck. Most have lost those beliefs sadly as are the Gaelic speakers far and few now. If you get the chance to come to Scotland especially around Christmas Inverness and Edinburgh are truly magical and the people are so welcoming (no matter the season)

Holidays in Scotland - memories of my mum cooking sausages on a camp stove in the rain holding up an umbrella over the frying pan. Meanwhile, dad’s reading the paper inside the car. We hadn’t booked a room for the night and it was getting dark when we came across a scruffy sign for a B&B. Down a long, narrow winding road, it was a manse for the local church and it was filled with antiques and old-fashioned wallpaper. Breakfast was sausages, bacon, black pudding, haggis, eggs, fried bread, fried home-grown tomatoes and it was very cheap! Just a small thing, but it has its own private beach - acres of white sand and nobody for miles. Even my dad ran along the beach - with his trousers rolled up.

Found a solution to the midges in Scotland years ago on a family trip. We used Jungle Formula but not the spray - we used the roll on - for arms, legs, neck, face with maybe a top up of the spray on clothing. As we stood and looked at each other there was a midge free halo around all of us! It worked a treat & was less wasteful and more effective than using the aerosol spray alone. Scotland is breathtakingly beautiful.
@anneg57202 жыл бұрын
Jungle formula has been around for years, there's always been solutions. Its just us scots usually just deal with it and moan like heck afterwards 😂😂😂
@hiz15072 жыл бұрын
You should've gone for the native solution. Expose your bare arms and legs and run around a wooded area, preferably one with a stream or pond, in the evening for several hours. You'll have so many bites that, after two days of itchy hell, you'll develop a life long tolerance to Scottish midge bites and never notice another one again. It'll even give you something instead of sheep to count on that first itchy night - I got into triple digits before I gave up and that was just my lower legs. 😂😂

As others have mentioned the reason why it's so green is rain, rain and more rain!😁 Britain has very diverse landscapes in a relatively small area. There are a number of reasons for this: - We're an island with hills and mountains. Where different environments meet you get more variety e.g. coast line, dunes and beaches, floodplains, wetlands, woodland, hills and mountains. - We have a very diverse geology with lots of different rock types in a small area which in turn affects the terrain, hydrology, soils and vegetation. - During the ice age Scotland and the North were covered in ice. The U-shaped valleys you noticed were carved out by glaciers. The Lake District is the same. - Four different weather systems meet over the UK. The Atlantic system, which is the prevalent one, is warm (relatively) and wet, The Artic system (cold and wet), the Siberian system (cold and dry) and the Saharan system (hot and dry). This is why the weather can vary so much and we get 'four seasons in one day'. - The Gulf Stream: This is a current of warm water which comes all the way from the Mexican Gulf and keeps the British Isles much warmer than they would otherwise be, especially in winter. We're actually at the same latitude as Churchhill in Canada which has the biggest population of polar bears in the world. Without the gulf stream we'd be ice-locked in winter. Worryingly there are signs that climate change is weakening the Gulf Stream. If it fails completely the British Isles will get much colder despite the world getting warmer overall. - Our countryside/scenery has been massively influenced by man. Britain was originally covered in woodland, the majority of which has been cleared. Moorland for example is all man made and would revert if it wasn't maintained. Drainage systems have reduced wetlands and the amount of fog, etc - The west of the country has significantly higher rainfall than the East and tends to be more hilly and rugged. For this reason many of the most beautiful parts of Britain are on the West Coast: The Hebrides and West coast of Scotland, the Lake District, Snowdonia, Pembrokeshire, Devon and Cornwall. There are beautiful parts in the East, too, Northumbria and the Norfolk broads for instance, but West is best!😀 All of the west coast was originally temperate rainforest (deciduous woods where all the moisture encourages lots of moss, ferns, lichens and liverworts. 99% of this has gone, though there are still small patches if you know where to look. - Midges: If visiting Scotland during midge season (most of the summer) prepare to be eaten alive, especially around water. If you've ever been attacked by a swarm of mosquitos midges are twice as bad. Pack lots of insect repellent and consider buying a hat with mesh (like a beekeeper). They don't like citrus much so lemon soap, etc helps too.

Not being a supporter of the British Monarchy but respecting the late Queen Elizabeth II, just the fact that it is one of the places that Her Majesty loved makes me proud! The Scots welcome everyone with open hugs, with respect, love and affection, we just hope you enjoy what we have to offer!

I lived in Scotland for many years. I lived just a few miles down the road from Glenfinnan, so I used to regularly get the train over the viaduct. It’s a great view from up there and in the summer the driver stops briefly in the middle so tourists can take photos. I also lived for a good few years in a valley much like the one you admired near the end. The house was reached by a mile long forestry track and it was the only house at the end of that track. We had a generator for electricity which was only needed for a few hours each evening, and the water came from a burn (Stream) that came down the mountain behind the house. Yes, there are people in the touristy places but I could walk in the mountains near my home for an entire day and not see another human being. (Lots of sheep though) Those hills and lochs in the video are beautiful when lit by sunlight, but when they're dark and stormy (As they often are) they're even more spectacular.

Our city has so much , it’ is stunning but because we are so used to it all we tend to not appreciate it as much ( well I didn’t when I was younger - now that I’m almost 40 I love taking long walks around all the ancient grave yards & taking a nice slow walk up the Royal Mile …. People say “when you are walking in Edinburgh look up” I used to hear this when I was younger and think “why thee f would I be looking UP when I’m walking?!” Now I’m older I now know what folk meant by “Look up in Edinburgh” because when you are walking and you do look up you see rows upon rows of beautiful old fashioned chimney roof tops with all the stunning back grounds behind it ( it’s hard to explain it I would physically need to show you 😂) anyway thank you for doing this video we are very proud of our beautiful country 🏴❤ ❤ …. Britain used to have a lot of red squirrels, but the grey squirrel from America was introduced, which is bigger and spread disease (squirrel pox) to our native red squirrels. There was some culling of grey squirrels and red squirrels have been re introduced to some areas mainly in Scotland but also northern England - the grey squirrel population is being kept under control, with some areas now clear of them and red squirrels reintroduced and protected. Both types of squirrels are cute, but red squirrels are particularly cute and the majority of red squirrels now in the UK are mostly in Scotland, particularly pine forests.

The grass is grassy grass because it rains here.... a lot ! Some places get three to four times as much rain as Seattle. Some of my favourite places in Scotland.... Glen Affric, Luskentyre beach on Harris, Torridon, Stac Pollaidh and Inverpolly nature reserve, Glen Coe but there are many more. And as Scotland invented Golf there are 500 courses in a relatively small country. There are also about 500 stone circles in Scotland including a famous one at Callanais (Callanish) on the Isle of Lewis. A good movie to see Scotland's scenery is the first Highlander movie which was shot in various locations including Glen Coe and Skye. The mountains shown are fairly popular and quite climbable. His pronunciations of place names are mostly wrong.

All the landmarks have names because most of Britain has been inhabited for thousands of years. For castles in both England and Scotland, look em up online, you can book a visit in advance to visit Eilean Donan Castle. There are many castles which operate tours these days, it's not uncommon for school trips to go some of them. In England I remember having a school trip to Warwick Castle. Generally people aren't gunna try and chip off a part of a castle, that could easily land you in trouble after all, these are protected buildings. People aren't going to stand around and let you do that.

There's so many places in Scotland that are breathtakingly beautiful, sadly most Scottish people don't notice or appreciate these places. When I was growing up all the other weans around me would insult me because I would go on holiday without leaving the country whilst they were heading to Spain or something, but I love that my father held the belief that we should see our home country before going abroad because my childhood involved adventures in lush forests whilst my friends would visit a hotel in Spain and only leave for an hour or two to visit a beach before going back to the hotel. They never knew the beauty that was Glencoe, Aviemore, and the Bens(Mountains) and valleys. My personal favourite place though is Drumnadrochit which is a wee place in the banks of Loch Ness.

A Scot and resident of Edinburgh here. It's definitely a very beautiful city. Arguably the most picturesque in the U.K. It would have been nice if the presenter had pronounced ANY of the place names in the video remotely correctly, though. Edinboro?! That seems to be the default mispronunciation. Sometimes Americans even pronounce it Edinburg, like in Pittsburgh. It's either Edinbra' or Edinburu. Those are really the only acceptable versions that won't have the locals rolling their eyes. How hard can it be? ;-) And the concentration on the Isle of Skye is common, too. It's beautiful but the whole north west coast of Scotland is equally stunning. Have a look at NC500 roadtrip videos, of which there are literally tens of thousands.
