Ever since I knew what a pencil was, I was always taught that an eraser is meant to fix or get rid of mistakes. My life long goal is to show others that this is not the case. I think that it has just as much if not more power than the pencil in conveying detail and texture. It is an absolutely amazing tool.

Thank you. I have only just started with blending stumps and had no idea how to use them. I also appreciated learning how you used the erasers to create detail. Sara :D

I rarely leave comments on a youtube video, but a thank you is well deserved in all your videos. I recently started to learn how to sketch, and got books. But to be honest, the books are good but the video tutorials are much better. After looking around on youtube for a while, I came across your channel. And Hats off, these are the most helpful videos I have seen so far. Thanks a lot for taking time to upload these videos.

Tyler, I came up with a tool for blending detailed areas. I cut the used cotton ends of q-tips and put them in my clutch pencil. The sticks are the same size as the lead and fits just right. I have come up with some interesting results. Let me know what you think.

This is my first walk to your page, and I loved it. I just received my blending stubs in the mail, and I was searching information on how to use them. I am fairly new to pencil drawing, so I can use all the help that I can get. I will definitely check out the rest of your tutorials. Thanks for the great information. I'm eager to learn more.

I am happy to see that you have found the channel and found it so useful! I do hear you about the books. They can only take you so far. I learn most of what I know by books and replicating what they have done. It has worked for me somewhat but the practice and inspiration from others is the driving force behind it all. Thanks again for the comment!

Graphite powder is awesome to use. I think I have some around but I constantly forget about it. I am also very used to my method of drawing and tend to stick to it. Being OCD can be a good thing with art. You will be very careful of how things are done and constantly checking for errors. I try and do this as much as I can.

It really depends on how much you use the blending stump and what you are trying to render. I do agree with you. If I blended each aspect somewhat of the drawing, it would look like you described. I will usually blend an area and then put a tone of pencil on top of it. It creates a layering effect which can enhance some areas. The eraser works well in that process as well.

That's amazing. I really enjoyed this video. You explain things very well and you make it look so easy. The sky looked awesome. I've always loved art and art supplies but never really tried at it because I'm not a good drawer but this is so interesting and I'm motivated to try different things- with your help. ;-) Thanks!

I try to use a blending stump for all my drawing mediums instead of my finger. I get finger prints all over when I use my finger to blend haha. I will also buy my blending stumps in bulk packages so I tend to have one for each color. You can also use a piece of cloth or paper towel to blend as well.

I am not positive but the tuff stuff eraser stick is the thinnest mechanical eraser dispenser that I knew of when I worked at an art store. There must have been about 3 or so different brands there.

It does leave some texture. Try not to press down too hard on the pencil when you are shading. That will cause marks to be left behind when blending.

When blending chalk/oil pastels would you use a blending stump or your finger when working on small surface areas like when cleaning up trees that you've drawn

I am using blending stumps, and am finding that they are holding on to the graphite, and adding more of it where I don't want it. What is the solution to this?
@nightmarex4740
@nightmarex4740 5 жыл бұрын
you can use sandpaper on the edge of your stump or if you dont want to ruin it, scrape an eraser on the end. If you for some reason don't want to do either of those things just use up the graphite on a scrap piece of paper.

Personally i really dislike using any type of blending tool. This is not a criticism of those that do, i personally just find that when i have used them, the finished picture looks smudged and doesn't look as sharp or detailed as it might have if i had just built up layers using different pencils. Maybe i am just using them wrong, who knows. But that's just my personal preference

damn you are really teaching some poor techniques, you completely destroyed the tooth of the paper and further flattened it with the how hard you mash your materials against the paper, jeez
