@tededo
@tededo 11 ай бұрын
20 years of grappling taught me that many blue belts think they improve, while real improvements mean, you spending months and months on one technique, taking a deep dive, zooming in on that one move. Example: few years ago I spent 12 months on the bottom half guard. Guess what, upperbelts took notice, adjusted and even had trouble rolling with me, if I picked the bottom half. Now today, blue belt where I roll seldom spend more than 2 weeks on one technique. No wonder, they still have trouble with everyone. Guys like Rickson, Royler, Royce Rener Gracie, to name a few, began to zoom in on few techniques when they were blue belts. So that guy who tried Tyler should have worked, drilled and trained his leg lock defense for weeks, doing, spending time and time doing just that, defending leg locks ala Priit Mihkelson. If you know Priit you know the meaning of spending/taking time to dive in on move to defend.

Well you can develop a style or be an unpredictable menace. 1000 kicks vs 1000 kicks moment. The problem is when The Master has practiced 1000 kicks 1000 times. Then the one kick guy looks like a one trick pony. Once you break their gimmick and get passed their developments to their strategy, it turns out they have no real substance to their fighting and will start throwing randomly. "I fear most the man who has practiced 1000 kicks 1000 times" -Bat Lee

It's a bias stats. I doubt it applies to ATOS with Galvao guys, or Marcelo's comp roster, or Renzo's enforers, or even Rickson or Kron's upperbelt students. Might be true if you reduce it to a narrow context with a specific rule set with a limited historical time range, but big grappling academies? I question that.

Truth be told, KZbin recommended this video to me, based on what I typically watch. I almost can't tell if you're serious, or trolling. You're an actual BJJ blackbelt, which is HIGHLY respectable. You claim this Josh kid is trying to bully you, which at first glance seems true. However, you continue to give him the time of day, and watching this sparring session, he's smiling the entire time. If this is real, I assume young Josh, in an unconventional way, looks up to you. He challenges you, because you're open-minded, and he knows that despite his antics, you'll give him the time of day. I think this is his way of trying to learn from you. Like you said, he already improved from your first session to the second! As a sidenote, I'm 44 years old, and no longer train in martial arts. I say this to say that during my time training in martial arts, I would've never, EVER intentionally disrespected anyone, despite their skill level. 👍
@archimedesnation
@archimedesnation 11 ай бұрын
Respect is part of the life lessons you learn in martial arts. If this kid behaved like this in some strict japanese or brazilian dojo, he 'd be in a world of real pain, instead of only suffering a bruised ego. If they spare you but the lesson still doesn't register, sooner or later you 're gonna get really hurt and it's gonna be your own fault. Imagine this guy headbutting and kicking a Gracey during training...
