Absolutely HATE that scissor sweep and wish people would stop doing it. A high level blue belt did that to me, and like you, my foot didn't get swept out all the way and it rolled weird. I thought my foot/big toe was broken, but it wasn't. Couldn't walk for a week and it still hurts to this day over 6 months later.

High level blue here and scissor is my favorite sweep 😅😂

Yeah not a big fan of it ever. There are safe ways to do it, but it’s just a casual roll 🙃🙃 so maybe not the place to do it

That looked more like a Kani Basami takedown than scissor sweep. That takedown is notorious for breaking ankles and blowing out knees and is illegal in many places.
@ericcipolla2 жыл бұрын
I’ve been hit with it a few times by the same guy that has at least 70 lbs on me. I pray for my knee’s stability and safety every time I’m omw to the mat, it really feels like a roll of the dice

Honestly, the jiujitsu competition scene is tough these days. These guys really want to win. I go to open mat at other gyms and the 20 yr old white/blue belt guys turn it up to 110% Edit: great rolls. Love how he had technique and power. Would love to roll with this guy. He is clearly a good training partner.

When I do ever do this I do with control. Not recklessly throwing my body with dead weight at their legs. That’s where people mess up. It’s actually better to get if you do it with control. Posting on your hand, floating your hips and hipping into them then you can control the fall and the lace.

There isn't a sandbagging problem, there is a belt inflation problem. 15ish years ago, a blue belt really meant something, someone with a blue belt could absolutely dismantle someone with no experience, even if they were strong/athletic, and that's what attracted so many people to BJJ. Now, greedy instructors who want to keep students coming are giving out attendance belts, which threatens to turn BJJ belts into a joke like 9 year olds with TKD black belts. Now, when there are instructors who actually follow the belt standards that made BJJ as respected as it is today, the insecure attendance belt BJJ mall ninjas try to turn it around by crying Sandbagging. This is what an actual blue belt should look like. It was facing blue belts like this coming in as a white belt wrestler that gave me enough respect for the art to sign up in the first place. If I'd faced today's average hobbyist attendance blue belt, I very well may have dismissed BJJ as yet more Bullshido. If you are a higher belt than this guy and you know he's better than you, it doesn't mean he needs a higher belt. It means you need to take your current belt off and wear one you can back up on the mat.
@glxblt-sd1ze2 жыл бұрын
@@sevourn for sure that's a problem too, but in most bjj club the average blue belt would crush a dude with no experience, also the "fake blue belts" don't compete bc they know they will get smashed. It's fact that in some gym belts standards are very low but the sandbagging exist too, in a comp (I wasn't fighter) I met a dude that train 6 times a week, and was blue belt for five years... He could smash 70% of purples belts but stay in blue div...
