I’ve fished for about 2 years now and my whole first year I never new what I was doing and caught a total of 1 bass in a whole year but now I’ve really tried to get good at fishing and I’ve caught 46 just since the beginning of this year. I’m 14 so thank you for inspiring me to fish. I love that it is the one thing that won’t matter what race you are or how much money you have in order to do it. You truly did inspire me so thank you for that!! I’m gonna try to do some teen tournaments later this year

A video on bass forage would be cool. A lot of anglers talk about "matching the hatch," whether its bluegills, shad, crawfish, etc... and I'd be curious about some tips for identifying what they're eating, which regions and/or types of waterbodies you're more likely to find one or the other in, and in general, how one can efficiently figure it out. Cheers

As a left hand reel user I know how you feel. I got a RH reel on accident and decided to go with it, and it was such a weird but insightful experience. As far as video ideas go it's tough to say, as you have made a ton of indepth videos on so many subjects already, but I think a cool idea would be how you prepare for fishing trips (weather, gear to pack, time, food etc). It would be cool to see how you prep, and what you consider.

It always made sense to me to use a left retrieve reel, being a dominant right hand person. That’s how I started with spinning reels, so it felt natural to start with the crank on the same side for my first bait caster. I’d like to see you demonstrating more finesse style fishing like drop shot, Ned rigs, and wacky style. I sometimes wonder when to set the hook in those various styles.

I grew up using a spinning rod and retrieved with my left hand so it just seemed natural I do the same with a baitcaster. I'm a bit odd with that anyway, I'm right handed but bat left handed. If I played golf I'd putt right handed (I do that at putt putt) but probably drive left handed

Being a right handed person, I’ve always fished with a left hand retrieve. I’ve actually found it saves me time on a cast by not having to shift my grip around when reeling. Plus having my dominant hand on the rod gives me much more control

Tyler, I really enjoy your channel and have learned a lot. When I first started bass fishing, I always used a left-hand retrieve because it felt more natural for me to cast with my dominant right hand. I started running into some tendinitis issues, so I purchased a right-hand retrieve baitcaster and have become fairly proficient at left-handed casting from time to time I go back to a left-handed retrieve to use some of my favorite reels. I would really enjoy seeing more videos oriented towards beginning, bass, fishing, basics, and pond or kayak fishing. Thanks for the shot at a new reel!

When I decided to buy my first baitcaster last year, I specifically went with a left handed retrieve because that was how my spinning reels are set up, plus less movements after the cast. I’m still learning, so I would love to see you explain flipping and pitching. I’ve seen some anglers do some neat techniques with a baitcaster that I would love to learn how to do. I will say, it looked more natural seeing you use a left handed retrieve reel.

My first baitcast reel was a Shimano Curado I found at a flee market when I was 18. It was left hand retrieve but it was the first ever baitcaster I had seen up close so I thought LHR was normal because I had always used LHR on my spinning reels. People would make jokes about me using a baitcaster that way but I landed more fish than they did so it didn't bother me. I am now 51 years old and still use a Curado LHR and still land more fish. It just made sense to me that using your dominate(strongest) arm to wrestle in the big ones than to use the strongest arm(fingers really) to reel in line. I think if I tried your challenge but used a RHR I would fail miserably! One Idea I had was for you to explain when and where to upsize/downsize baits. Spring vs Summer vs Fall with cranks/jigs/worms/etc.

I'm in the same situation - right handed, but I use a right hand reel, so I cast with my right hand, then immediately switch the rod to my left hand and use my right to reel. I've always wanted to switch so that I can cast the rod and NOT switch hands... just wasted motion really. Thanks for the motivation to give it a try!

As usual thank you again for the videos. As a new fisherman trying out bass this year, your videos have been insanely helpful. With that being said, I have noticed there is an overwhelming amount of options of rods, reels, baits etc that is just everywhere and its been a trip trying to figure out what to buy as a new fisherman. I know previously you have made videos of "the do it all" setup for baitcaster and spinning reels, but I think a video with a "low, medium, high" budget bass fishing setup for beginners with your recommendations, and the differences, pros and cons etc would be awesome for people getting into bass fishing, or people who are looking for an upgrade. Or also, a video with a setup of say 2 or 3 rod/reel combos to cover and fish as many situations someone might run into while bass fishing would also be useful. Thanks again for the vids!

Grew up with left handed spinning. Always liked my strong hand for control of the rod. Got my first left hand baitcast and it worked great, felt like Steph curry making a cast. Years later Got me a right hand purdy baitcast on sale and said I’ll try it. Little weird at first but got the hang of it. Month later, nov 2022, Broke my right finger bad and I’m still recovering from surgery. Needless to say this year has been a lot of bad hook sets and bad cast but just glad I can still fish. Don’t get me wrong I’m still slaying them but Had to switch completely and It’s challenging to get all your movements and timing dialed in. Great video, at the right time for me.

I’ve been following this left/right hand series of yours because I have been struggling with this concept as well. I just purchased a couple of Tatula SVs and prior I was wondering whether or not I should get left vs right hand retrieve even though I’ve been fishing right hand retrieve baitcast for years. After messing with some in store left hand retrieve models, I decided to stick with right hand for the tatulas. I think I would only try left hand if I inherited or was given a left hand retrieve. Not sure I would go out and purchase one yet. Your videos on this have helped me make that decision, so thank you for that! Perfect timing too! As for a video suggestion, this may already exist, but I would like to see a video on different line types and lb test applications for different lure types and water conditions. I feel this is an area I still struggle in. When to throw top water and what to throw it on and what time of day/season etc. when to throw a swim bait and what type and lb test to throw it on and what time of day/season. That sort of topic coverage.

Video idea would be a run down of a full days fishing from the prep the night before with rods, tackle, and boat. Then maybe walk through a few on the water habits you developed over the years. Maybe like what you do for breaks or how often you are changing baits, any graphing items you do every time. Just some on the water insight. Then lastly, the process for once you are back home, how you reorganize rods or reels, baits and tackle, boat care etc... Share how you stay organized from start to finish because it is so easy to get lost in it all and become disorganized or mistreat your gear without a routine! As to the video here, I am right hand retrieve as well so I have been working on my left handed casting, flipping and pitching! Accomplishes the same thing (not having to switch hands) with out breaking the bank on new reels!

Great video. As a right-hander, who typically uses the old "coffee-grinder" spinning reels for fishing up here in the NW, it took me a while to adopt a baitcaster reel. But, after seeing many of my fishing buddies using baitcasters while fishing for steelhead and salmon, I decided to try it out. My first was a Shimano, back in the 80's, and after trying to get used to casting with my right and then switching the rod to my left, it just felt awkward to me. While still learning to cast and fish with one, I decided to switch to a left hand retrieve model. While still battling the occasional birdsnest (newbie), I found I had more control over the rod, the bait or lure I was using, and after catching my first steelhead on the baitcaster - more control and strength fighting and landing the fish. I am still learning bass fishing, but my main fishing is for steelhead and salmon, with my PB being an 83 pound Chinook salmon from the Kenai River in Alaska. That was caught using spinning gear, cranking with the left hand, and holding the rod with the right. So, it is taking a little more time getting used to my left-hand retrieve baitcaster, but I am sure I will get there. I'm sure you will, too. But - that being said, use whichever is more natural and comfortable for you. Tight lines.

Same as others below. Always used left handed spinning reels and right handed baitcasters. At times I find my self casting and using my right hand to work the rod on my baitcaster and reaching up with my left hand when I set the hook and just kinda auto switch to reeling in.

I am left-handed but use a right-handed baitcasting setup. I like it because I don't have to switch hands after casting. I never understood why right-handers would switch hands after casting the baitcaster, but keep the same hand holding a spinning setup. Thanks for all the great vids!

Thank you for the video! I’m looking at getting my first baitcaster as I have always used a spinning reel which was on my left hand. I noticed most people use a right handed baitcaster but it just feels off to me. I went and just practice in the store left side vs right and the left side just feels more natural to me.

Hey Tyler, I have learned so much watching your videos which has allowed me to grow as a fisherwoman this past year. I'd love to see more fishing from the bank stuff. I fish a lot of lakes without much structure and lots of pressure. Maybe something on how to break it down to find the fish faster. Thanks for all your videos!

I cast with my right hand and crank with my left hand. I find it more convenient because I don't have to pass the rod over to my left hand every time after I cast. My first 2 baitcasters were right handed cranks, but I switched about 5 years ago and never looked back. Exclusively left handed now. How do you set up your baitcaster settings for pitching and skipping docks? Enjoy your station. Cheers!

I’m right handed and fish left retrieve. Just feels natural to me. I also don’t like casting right handed and then switching the rod to my left had so I can reel right handed. Great video. Thanks for sharing. I’d like to see you do some more top water with the lunkerhunt spider!

I am a right handed kayak fisherman who uses a left handed reel, its just soo much easier not having to switch hands. I would like to see a video on how what baits you rig your rods with before going to a lake you've never fished before. I have room for only 6 rods and I usually start with 3 spinning and 3 baitcasters. Thanks for the videos.

Gr8 vid on the lefty. Since we use left handed spinning equipment it's an easy switch for bait casting. Your righty is stronger for hook setting. I have learned a lot from your vids over the years, so keep up the awesome variety and sharing your experiences.

What is funny is i am left leg dominant, right handed, but left handed when i fish, i only use spinning rods, but i have entertained a bait caster, seems too complicated for me though, if i win it would gorce me to learn the bait caster finally😂

Great video. I'm personally a left hand retrieve guy. I'd like your opinion on how much easier a digitally controlled reel is when it comes to flipping, skipping, and light lures.

I’ve always used left hand retrieve reels since starting with a spinning rod that was left hand. For the grip, I put my index and middle above that knob underneath and my ring/pinky goes below it. Mind you I got really big hands. For video ideas: maybe individual instructional videos on more niche lures/baits to maybe expand our arsenal as fishermen. I know I tend to get locked into my core group of lures but surely learning different styles would help me and many others grow.

Living in the northeast I’ve only ever used spinning rods with a left hand retrieve, aside from trolling rods. I’m leaning toward getting a left hand retrieve bait caster.

That’s cool that you tried to switch; I’d thought about it after watching your other video but guessed the learning curve would be really high. Based on your experience maybe it’s not so bad and I will give it a try! I’m looking to step up from bank fishing to a canoe or kayak. I feel like that’s probably a bigger change in tactics than most might think and would love a video with your thoughts and tips on how to be successful.

This video came at a perfect time. I was just fishing the day before comparing both the left-handed reel and the right-handed real. I found that my hookup ratio is higher on the right-handed reel. Which made me second-guess my decision of buying my left-handed reels. To see you, an experienced angler, struggle just as I have made me rethink that, so I decided to give it more time. A cool video idea could be comparing your hookup ratios using 3 lures that require different measures of strength. Then taking the average and see how you performed with each one.

I’ve used both left and right hand baitcast reels for many years. The concept of power hand fishing is great. If I’m fishing a fast moving bait like a spinnerbait or crankbait, I go to a right hand because I want my power hand on the retrieve because the retrieve hand is very much the involved in the hook set. If I’m fishing a bait like a jig, worm, frog, etc I use a left hand baitcast because most of the power from the hook set is coming from my power arm. If you guys aren’t doing this now, I highly recommend that you do because you will catch MANY more fish.

Hey Tyler! I like switching back and forth between right and left handed retrieve reels because if I use a friend’s equipment or get a setup for a good deal I don’t want to be without the knowledge or skill to use it. Also I would love to see a video on the specific mechanics and inner workings of a bait caster! Love your videos man!

Majority of right hand dominant people who use the left retrieve is to avoid the sometimes troublesome switch after pitching and flipping. My casting, skipping reels or right handed. Flipping and pitching mine are left handed. It does make a difference. That bite sometimes comes quick flipping and pitching . Just try, you'll thank me later. ps- the "boss of Eufaula" is a sissy Would like to see you do a video prepping to fish a body of water

Great video. I'm right-handed, but use a left-hand retrieve baitcaster. For me, I think it stems from having spinning reels with left hand retrieve and being too lazy to put the handle on the other side. I think a good future video would be breaking down (explaining what you are looking for, why that bait, etc.) and fishing a body of water without using electronics.

I never really fished as a kid and my dad didn’t either so I found fishing later in life. Now, I have a son and I’m determined to learn to be the best angler I can so I can teach him as well (and your content helps a ton!) My idea for your video: I see lots of parents teaching kids on the lake or the shore one thing or another about fishing. If you had a young son or daughter Tyler, (say 8-12) I would love to see how you would teach them to fish. How to start them right and develop their skills and confidence. Thank you again for all you do. God bless.
