Good upgrade mate, arb is the go! The vast majority of us in winch challenge run arb, there’s a few small upgrades you can do to make them stronger for racing applications that aren’t overly necessary for your application so wouldn’t worry about it. Tjm lockers are no where near as strong, I’ve ran them before along with a few other guys in racing and most of us couldn’t stop breaking them, arb lockers aren’t indestructible by any means, but they are the best choice for lockers.

Good to see u made the switch to ARB air lockers Tyler. I've been running the ARB lockers in my Patrol for yrs without issues & I also made the switch mod to have the front and rear locker engage independently of each other. I swear by them. Once there locked, they're locked. No engaging, dis-engaging, re-engaging. They're just locked. Job done 👍

Air lockers work great for a couple years, maybe 30-50k miles before they start pissing air internally. Drives me god-damn crazy listening to those obnoxious pos compressors running constantly because the air system leaks. Also, gotta keep a close eye on the differential fluid because the compressor will eventually load it up with water from condensation.
@Daniel_j_cro2 ай бұрын
Smart move. Keen to see videos of it in action. I recently bought a 105 series (ex cop car) and had a lot of arb gear fitted when new in 2003. 20 years later. Them air lockers and that old air compressor still works great. And you’re correct. 99% of winch trucks run arb lockers.

Another sweet as episode TT. Holy 🐴💩 🦇man...TALK ABOUT ABSOLUTE PERFECT TIMING!!! Tuesday - my mate, his brother, my girlfriends dad and myself ALL had an awesome Melbourne Cup win and were about to use these winnings to purchase 4x4 parts...these being lockers - E-lockers (8 x units) for their GQ, GU's, and my Y62 patrol just THIS DAM upcoming Friday and I was going to get my e-lockers fitted once I return back for Xmas. BUT.. you TT have just woken us to realise something pretty dam important where due to your video, being pretty straight and pretty fair about the E-lockers, we were all on the fence about what to do. UNTIL NOW, where as the supplier of these E-lockers (Harrop) have NOT offered to replace your GQ lockers with 2 new units, we ALL NOW realise that IF we went ahead and bought the E-lockers, should one of us then happen to have an issue down the track...we will be on our own! NOT good if we are halfway across the Simpson desert.. Therefore...due to this, it now looks like we all will be laying down these winnings for 8x 'Air lockers' instead, (6 now, 2 in December) as we have also just been informed, ARB will cover us even once out of warranty IF it's shown to be a fault of the product itself. No doubt additional research during the week will be done although atm, looks like all of us will be jumping the fence and doing the same as you guys. Thanks for the heads up. Cheers bro, 🍻

18:06 very interesting and surprisingly honest for a YT channel. And thanks for going into detail about the roll-back situation. Actually I would really rather prefer an electric engaging that relying on a copper line with air ... but I see the point. Very rockclimbing specific. But for trucks with an auto this is probably different anyway, as the engine would stall, when running backwords.
@PeterGibson-z8f2 ай бұрын
Have run arb air lockers for years, no issues, love them! They're fast to engage and disengage, and like others have said, when they're locked, they're locked. Usually leaks inside the diff centre are a sign of incorrect installation. Just make sure you have decent sized diff breathers, and that they're not clogged with mud, as if you were to have any problems, you want the compressed air coming out the breather, instead of popping your axle seals out. Breather needs to be able to handle the flow rate of compressor.
@steph94452 ай бұрын

Another thing to add to the e lockers that most don’t know. Dont run too thick of diff oil as it prevents the actual locking pin from locking in. I’ve heard that people running them overseas have trouble in the colder months due to the diff oil being too thick. I run them myself and personally haven’t had an issue with them. I also wheel pretty hard.

Fair call, and good explanation. Harrop should be happy with the level of honesty and detail you've given. I'm twin E-locked and happy with the setup, but if I change direction I know to crawl a bit first and let the lockers ramp & engage. Having an auto and doing less intense stuff helps. If you want to roll back and then clutch dump it then you need air-lockers plain and simple.

If you can reliably wire your electric air pump, you can reliably wire your e-lockers. Assuming equal mechanical reliability with the diff itself, air lockers simply introduce another failure point: air leaks.

If only Ox lockers (Cable) made lockers for more vehicles. Cable lockers are the best. The locker is sealed, and is operated by a leaver which is controlled by a cable to the cabin. If the cable breaks you can operate the leaver with a pair of plyers directly on the diff. No electric wires. No air (and air leaks). Sealed cable lockers are actually the best.

Dam that was awesome the JRP dude came round to do that setup, awesome service, I run Savage the coy has been great, but JRP def be on my future as i want the triple function, I don't like the all in one gauge, too much info for me in one screen, I like my 2 on the side pillar, very impressed how easy they setup, mine are a little more of a PIA in the functionality but been reliable and as I say great service which is important and local. Ya mate Timmy did a real good analysis of e vs air, another factor is ARBs are comp level specc, they can also be engaged on the move and instant engagement, an e locker should only be engaged when stationary, its not instant, ARBs system cant slip its a unique locking system! The only weakness is if you don't run ya lines properly and protective out of the way, you can upgrade ya lines, also. A big mistake many also make is with factory or aftermarket e - lockers you also should only be using them up 20km better up to 15km! ARB air lockers can be run at much higher speeds, though again another misconception is once in low range you shouldn't be limiter bashing in top gear in low range anyways at speed! Now ya got some real lockers ya need some real arms underneath, time to long arm the rear, watch ya vids back yours tucks into the front of the rear guard on extreme flex, Burtos, Tims do not they dig in and get traction, wheels stay centered in the rear wheel wheel also, I know there is always something eh, once ya start going it never ever stops, if ya aint upgrading ya repairing and replacing broken shit, ya got to pay the Ferryman, just life and esp 4wd life, go hard or go home, spent most of my weekend on the truck doing some shit🤣🤘 Between, Burto, Timmy has heart and Dan Kistler I think ya pretty got it covered mate, all fricken legends and what they don't know aint worth knowing🤘 Cheers lads, you legends, some good info re compressor pressure on the ARB air lockers, too, top stuff. ps, Need to start a wall of broken shit of legendary memories, also that TC chain make a good wall ornament, or maybe Burto could hang it around his neck, mini BA Barakus😂 Sorry mate, just a LC to Patrol banter🙃

USA forums do report quite a few warranty issues with ARB air lockers. Quad seal leaking from premature wear or pinching is usually the problem, but the main piston seal can also leak as can the banjo junction, which has been improved in newer units. Costly, yes, but ARBs are probably a better bet, if installed correctly.
