This is intriguing stuff. Ordinarily, electronic music in this form starts off plaintively and simply, then layers in percussion and other instruments, builds, using repeating forms, gets to full force, then deconstructs backward to the original starting point. Not so with Tyondai. He lays out the rhythm first and goes through many different changes in voice and mood, painting a really captivating canvas rich with moody textures, letting a few notes suffice for musical themes, but putting them so strongly in the foreground they take center stage. Repeating forms are mostly limited to the rhythm; everything else kind of pulses in warm and cool tones. I wound up listening to this one in loop mode for about 45 minutes, it was so fascinating. It actually lives better in a loop. Although it's literally mechanical music, what's not mechanical is that it is entirely unpredictable, with little outbursts of excitement, sighs, change of direction, full of moodiness. So in this sense it's very soulful. Not mechanical. I can readily envision this music (looped) being used to choreograph an animation with anthropomorphic machines, to even tell a short story
