My Q was the one with the emojis, since insta Q boxes are very small haha! But you got my Q dead on. Was only very recently I discovered the diabetes online community, and my control isn't terrible just always can be better..! But thanks for your answer, really sweet and helpful and I've been feeling a lot better about things recently anyway, funny how it comes and goes! But cheers to smashing 10 years of diabetes this week for me, and for us all, not being controlled by our T1.

The last question is my favourite bit ! Most people (myself included ) would be scared to share their truth and would give a generic answer but you just lit up by thinking about the beautiful things you dream of for yourself and it just filled me up with joy 🤗🤗🤗

Thankyou so much for people making others feel less as far as their diabetes self care. No one diabetic is perfect nor have all the answers. It's hard to deal by ourselves much less dragging someone elses superior attitude to make us feel inferior! You have a lovely one on one teaching attitude!

I have the libre, have found it a great help, the decom g6 is still not available in Australia. Keep up the good work, you are an inspiration, always thinking of others. 👍

Thank you for your answer! When I was diagnosed, the doctors said that the insulin has side effects of your hair falling out along with your body being in "starvation mode" for so long, and just like they said... It did!

Yay!! So glad you’re back, have really missed your videos. I’d love to see a weekly/monthly vlog if you ever have the time. Btw, in case anyone doesn’t know, you can buy a transmitter for the Libre, called a MiaoMiao, it basically turns it into a CGM, which is fantastic for someone like me who can’t afford a Dexcom. Just to be nosy, what do you do as part of the film/tv industry? Sounds exciting if you get to travel so much x

Listening to your videos made me recall a radio interview I heard when at an impressionable school-going age. It was an interview with a very inspiring young woman who was a type 1 diabetic and I recall naively wanting to become a diabetic just like her, not because the disease attracted me or that I wanted sympathy, but rather because I felt strongly empathetic towards her situation especially given how brave and positive I thought she was in the light of such adversity. Well, four years later I was diagnosed with DM1! Coincidence of course, but people who overcome hardship while unselfishly focusing on the plight of others are certainly inspirational in ways that they might never imagine. I just thought you should know that! Your comments on veganism are interesting. Apart from how praiseworthy that is from an ethical viewpoint, I nevertheless wanted to mention that many of my non-diabetic friends had had such success with weight loss on a low-carb, high fat diet that, although I certainly wouldn't have described myself as obese, nevertheless was eager to shed 10-15kg and decided to put it to the test. It is important to realise that the LCHF (aka Banting) diet's primary goal is to combat insulin resistance (IR), not to lose body weight - that is instead a positive side effect. Huge numbers of individuals worldwide are DM2 ticking time bombs and, if left unchecked, will reach a point of no return and become insulin dependent. The LCHF diet breaks the vicious cycle of beta cells of the pancreas having to produce increasing amounts of insulin to overcome IR, until the islets eventually bloat and shut down. It does this by switching one's metabolism from a carbohydrate burning one to a ketotic or 'fat-burning' one. This is, of course different to the autoimmune destruction of beta cells in type 1 patients and also shouldn't be confused with ketoacidosis. I tried it and lost 8kg but then I maxed out and I didn't understand why until I realised that the excessive exogenous insulin I was giving myself as a type 1 diabetic acted as a fat storage hormone. While there is a constantly elevated circulating level of insulin, one just doesn't burn fat. Having a CGM system helps to reduce insulin dosing by the mere fact that it provides real-time feedback affording better control. In fact, I'm pretty much on a starvation diet - a small bowl of plain double cream yoghurt with a few blueberries in the morning and nothing further until dinner in the evening and, even then, I don't feel hungry and could do without. The alarming thing is that mankind overeats and it is the short acting nature of carbs/starches that is to blame. Certain more acidic fruits are compatible with the LCHF diet and diabetics but the vast majority are not, including fruit juices - even if unsweetened - which are one's worst enemy. Eat a banana and see how fast your BG skyrockets. I'm fully behind vegan but, beware of fruits and legumes and starch and sweet vegetables, like peas and butternut. Flour-based foods like breads are just as much to blame. I still feel that a high fat diet is important to be able to reduce insulin dosing and combat weight gain, but that might not be everyone's cup of tea. My argument though is that, for forty years because of my diabetes, I practised a low carb diet due to being diabetic and yet still put on a middle-aged spread. Ironically, only going on a high fat diet eventually allowed me to lose weight. Finally, and I apologise for this long post, I have battled with excessive daily debilitating fatigue in the last few years where I will crash for two, sometimes three hours daily. I've had a barage of tests done and was eventually diagnosed with ME/CFS which I have serious doubts about. Sometimes the fatigue is post-exertional, often not. I also have severe neck and shoulder muscle aches and have had operations for stenosing tenosynovitis in a few fingers. It could all be unrelated to DM1 but I'm hopeful that better control through starting to use the G6 CGM might help to prove that the fatigue comorbidity was due to very volatile swings of BG levels and with lots of lows slowly taking their toll. The problem with diabetes is that almost every weird symptom inevitably gets assigned to one's diabetic state first, relagating diagnosis of something as intangible as ME/CFS to the obscurity of the myriad of possible diabetic complications. Hopefully all this banter gives food for thought. Great listening to you!

Thank you so much for sharing Paul. I found what you wrote very interesting and insightful. It just goes to show every diabetic is different and on their own path. And that’s so crazy what you felt about the T1D interviewee and then because T1 yourself. The world works in mysterious ways I tell you. Anyway, it sounds like you have a fabulous and intelligent mind that allows you to make the best decisions for you. I’m thrilled this is the case. I wish you all the Brest with your diagnosis and really hope that you’re okay. Wishing you happy healthy blood sugars and a wonderful day!

You have Celiac's? Didn't know that! Unfortunately it is not uncommon when you also have type 1 diabetes. Autoimmune diseases can come in packs. Celiac's, Hashimoto's, Vitiligo, T1D in particular are closely linked on a genetic level (mutations in the HLA complex). How does Celiac's affect your BG control? And, do you have to keep a separate cutting board, separate dishes etc.? After all, with Celiac's, even trace amounts of gluten can cause severe reactions, and once gluten is on a surface, it ain't easy to get it off again. EDIT: Also, be sure to get checked for autoimmune gastritis. This can also accompany T1D. Short-term, it is harmless (totally asymptomatic). Long-term, it is very dangerous, because its main effect is a severely reduced absorption of Vitamin B12 and folic acid (iron too I think). B12 deficiency that lasts for years can cause irreversible nerve damage. So, get tested for antibodies against parietal cells and against the intrinsic factor (both are needed for B12 absorption), and also get your Vitamin B12/D and folic acid levels tested. Nerve damage due to B12 deficiency is one of the few possible causes of non-diabetic neuropathy.

For those of you using that freestyle libre you can use a phone app that allows you to calibrate the readings, you just initialize it with the oficial scanner then with the official free style libre app, then you download Glimp, it has worked perfectly for me with insane accuracy even with high bgs. To calibrate you just have to enter your capilar meter readings on the app manually and its automatically calibrated after 4-6 measures, try to calibrate when your bg is stable

I have Kaiser Permanente Insurance and they will not write me a prescription, because they don't want to be on the hook to pay for it.
