A useful idea much pursued today by modern weapons designers with examples like the Mjolnir dual 120mm mortar system. It's a bit of a mixed bag for Japan in ;ate WW2 if she meant to go up against US Army and Marine units, whose artillery parks were by far the better. The standard 105mm M2 could outrange this 300mm bore monster. Against high angle fire from behind ridgelines and so on, the USA had Air Superiority, interdicting anything moving with liberal MG fire and the odd 500lb or Napalm bomb. The Japanese had no way to resist US forces by means of armor units. We ruled the air above all roads and over all fuel dumps.
