There are shy people who are introverted exactly because they feel superior. They find human interaction pointless and tiresome. He definitely was empathetic and kind dude. But he definitely thought of himself as smarter than most, stronger than most, prettier than most, more talented than most. And he really was all that, i am not denying it. But he most certainly was very aware of that.

P.S. Self hate does not always stem from inferiority complex. It can also come from feeling of grandeur and failing to meet the high standards you expect from yourself. It can also stem from feeling that your environment is not up to your standards, which is also something he lived with. Disappointments with women, society, his job etc. Thinking you deserve much better may also lead you to self hate.

@@patrickedwards8518 He was jailed for breaking probation on alcohol related charges I think. And for attacking his ex's secret husband. Then his family held an intervention to get him to rehab. He also needed the psych ward, he was very sick, dealing with drug-induced psychosis, bipolar disorder, and depression on top of that. He VOLUNTARILY continued to get psychiatric help.

I got kicked out of my aunt's house around XMas and was homeless, I was then sent to a mental hospital and all that shit. Feel for this guy, and yeah, substances are what I was hiding behind as well and still do sometimes.

I can't say it's the best or worst thing for everyone, but I will say that just one thing is never enough for anyone. People need multiple things, and it's different for different people. I'm glad you found what works for you; a lot of people need things they can't get, and drugs are just a way of simulating the feelings those things cause. That's why we need a strong support system to find what people need and help them wind that engine up.

I met him twice totally by accident. Once at "Albion/Batcave" and at "Duffs". What an intelligent and incredible fucking guy. Sips red wine and would talk about everything from stratus clouds and how much his music "sucks". Watching this video got me really upset for the guy. He's obviously (well was) family oriented, and he has a HUGE heart for his fans. The man WILL buy you a drink and ask questions and so on. Truly a genuine guy and not a disappointment like certain musicians/artists.

It's now more than 12 years since you left. I see this video and it makes me thoughtful and sad. I know pretty well how it must have felt for you : You wrote this sublime, deep and haunting music. And at the same time you were devastated. It is very difficult to endure this state. It literally breaks your heart when you basically want to live a good life and your own inner demons keep coming back. It's a long, painful process, but there's basically only one way to avoid breaking : You have to learn to forget. Because only those who forget can be happy again. I know, unfortunately it's too late for you, but I think on the other hand you have found the peace that you were denied in life. You were absolutely amazing and your music accompanies me in my dark times and hours. Your spirit is immortal and I love your music. I think the main reason why this is extremely heartbreaking for me to watch is that, even though I sympathize with Peter and feel sorry for him, I sort of know how fckd up it can be to have a family member in a situation of substance abuse. Being the daughter of an alcoholic mom, I got to have a fairly close look at the total train wreck into which an addiction can turn a person's life, and those of their family members as well. As far as I can tell from my personal experience, sometimes things get so dangerously out of control that an invasive (in the lack of a better word) intervention not only is required, but actually seems to be the only way to keep the person from harming or even killing themselves or someone else. That's how bad it can be. I do NOT believe, however, that simply locking someone up for good would be categorized as a valid, efficient way to deal with the whole thing. It mostly ends up in what we just saw here: someone pissed off, extremely hurt and disappointed, feeling betrayed and unable to critically analyze their situation and the toll it's taken on themselves and everyone else. Anyways, I honestly think this is the kind of situation that should not be judged unless one knows EXACTLY what happened, told and explained by both parts (which, unfortunately, will most probably never happen). Peace.

He either planted or was convinced there were cameras and microphones planted around his home. He smashed his toilet with a sledgehammer because he thought he saw a black octopus crawling out. He'd call up his relatives at weird hours and they'd go check up on him to find he'd covered electronics in foil and thought his cats were getting harassed by insects. Not to mention he was high when he went and found his ex fiancee and beat up her secret lover/husband and probably would've killed him if he'd been just a little more off his rocker that night.

It was the hardest thing i ever did in my life. I did do it because there was no other way. She was very mad at me at first but is so thankful it has changed her life completely. Substance abuse can be an awful experience for someone, but like he mentioned, he avoided dealing with his father's death by abusing substances. Confront your issues rather than hiding from them. Those original issues are often (usually?) the problem and not the substance, current research shows.

Peter Steele was a huge musical influence to me and when I met him he was super cool and very friendly. This is an odd interview because in the beginning he knew he was messed up and it was his fault but then blames his family for sending him away to get clean under false pretense. I've been down this road with both parents. 1 for mental issues and 1 for alcoholism. They tend to think everyone is out to get them when we are in fact acting out of love and desperation to save them. Same thing happens if you give up on them and let them go on without you. It's a no win situation when dealing with addicts and mental disorders.

Unfortunately his mental health was not great at the time he did the interview. He has the anger towards his family probably more due to the humiliation of what had occurred. Watch his last interview where he is clean and sober and the contrast is stunning. So sad that he died shortly after.

I lived out recently a bizarre family scenario that was something akin to Kafka's 'Metamorphosis' being so marginalized that you become some kind of "bug" living under your bed. I have no family any more, they would rather be with the family they've known and loved best all along....the system, the system nurtures them with all it's decadence and toxicity and self righteousness. I'm sure if Peter was listening to this he would say "fuck the system and fuck them".

Pete is a really awesome guy,. I'm so irate at his fucking parents that put him into a mental hospital and then he was sent to jail. I know about family betrayal all too well. It's a shame he died so young at 48years old. I don't feel like Pete Steele squandered his life. He was an awesome rock star and he turned all his negative feelings and sought refuge in rock music.

i was there the day after helping his gf with her belongings, she was devastated, never did find out what happened to her after that. the day prior he had fallen in the backyard and pronounced dead at GCH in Scranton. He was a great musician and person. RIP brother you are missed

I feel so sorry for Peter, on many levels. My brother started doing drugs when he was 11, mostly to deal w my parent’s divorce, and later to self-medicate for anxiety and bi-polar disorder. He ended up in prison for 3 years, got clean, and has stayed that way. He’s on year 5 now, almost 35 years after he started using. I don’t think addicts belong in jail/prison. We need better treatments for psychiatric issues. That’s why the majority of addicts use, whether it’s heroin, meth, sex, food, alcohol etc. I understand why people react violently to finding a lover or spouse cheating. Finding out my ex-husband cheated on me and then left me for that bitch was the worst thing I’ve ever been through, and I’m a cancer survivor. I’d rather have gone through chemo again. It was like having PTSD. That was 3 years ago, and it still tears me apart. RIP, Peter.

I love this interview. This is the late Peter Steele. I still think he would be alive if not for imposing rapid detox, abstinence, AA on a person over 50 whos body cannot take that kind of shock to the system. "Get that poison out of your body" philosophy is not good when done too fast. Has to be done gently.

Margatroid I was addicted to high amounts of opiates for 16 years. I remember people telling me "get that poison out of your system". and you are better everyday. They did not understand that I "indulged" in chemicals that the body naturally makes, dopamine, and my body has stopped making them, and won't for a long time. Rapid detox and strict drug testing can kill you if not understood. It took me 4 years to wean off. If I had been arrested and not been able to do on my own terms, I would be dead. It screws up your blood pressure. I love Peter and always will. He was too good for this world.

I love Peter Steele but I think addicts are always too rough on their families..assuming their family really loves them. It's a hard position to be in honestly..watching a loved one self destruct. Then when family tries to save them they are spit on and told they are betraying. That being said..jail is not the place for addicts..jail isn't the place for anyone really. We need a better system to help people get off the shit and help them rejoin society. I just think addicts are too selfish to see the other side of things and the pain they cause everyone else. And this usual talk of "oh it was just too much"..the only drug I endorse is marijuana. Other than that..you should run from any other substance..including alcohol. The pain you cause yourself and so many around you isn't worth it.
