Probably not a very cool fact, but there is literally no way to practice bushcraft in my country, all camping is illegal unless you get a permit at one of the 2 places to camp. As all land in the country is owned by the government. We do have jungles you could hike in but it's still illegal. We used to have a handful of islands people could stay overnight and camp but some group of idiots accidentally set fire to half the the island and now camping is mostly banned on the islands.

@@jonslg240 I'm going to be honest with you I don't think anyone's claiming that a Messer it should be considered a knife(although you can make a pretty good argument about it especially since a machete is considered a knife). The reason it's funny is because they were made by the knife making guild and the name translates to knife. Also a knife expert isn't going to be dealing with messers that's more of a medieval arms expert's territory. Not to mention he says Hema which it means "historical European martial art" so he's not even claiming to be an expert on anything.
@karmadoesmore1644
@karmadoesmore1644 Жыл бұрын
@@jonslg240 wether or not messers are knives can be debated all day, but iirc they came about because medieval laws kept civilians from owning swords, and the construction was considered knifey enough at the time. now that we are further along, we now realize 3 dots in the handle does not make it a knife

some of its length isn't bladed but many are bladed on both sides, all the way along the length of the dagger. Some have this "syringe-end" style of lens-shaped taper and only a sharpened tip. once you've poked and wrestled underneath someone's armor plate with your rondel dagger, you still need to cut and push through any further padded protection they are wearing underneath (which was sometimes quite a bit!) and then cut into them. Perhaps only sharpening the very needle tip was necessary for this, but nonetheless it looks like many were also edged on both sides. These C-shaped blades are really fancy; giving your rondel dagger more leverage into the chink in another's armour. Thanks for reading my autism

The Swiss army knife is realistically all you will need in a survival situation. However, when I go on multiple day hikes I carry a survival knife with a kit in the hilt. The kit is a zip-lock back with matches, a strike strip, fishing line, a couple of fishing hooks, and some lead weights for fishing. The way you get to the kit is by unscrewing the ball compass at the base of the hilt, the sheath also has a compartment for a miniature whetstone. The blade is 12 inches and the blunt side has a serated part that's pretty good for sawing small branches. I also carry a Swiss army hatchet and a machete.

I carry my Spyderco Paramilitary 2 with black DLC coated plain edge CPM S30V steel blade in my left pocket, and that's the one I let people borrow if they ask. I carry my Spyderco Spydiechef with plain edge LC200N steel blade in my right pocket, and that's the one that I pretty much only use myself. I have a black DLC coated plain edge Spyderco Para 3 too, that matches my PM2. I told my ex gf that she could have it, but I ended up keeping it. I've been thinking about splurging on a new knife lately, something pretty high end like an Olamic or maybe even Hinderer. My Spydiechef is the most expensive knife I've ever bought so far, and I think I gave about $250 for it like a year and a half ago or so. It might seem expensive to carry around those knives, but I also usually carry my CZ Shadow 2 9 x 19 handgun, and that thing cost almost $1,500 lol but I have my CCW license.

I carry a folding knife that's thin enough to carry in my wallet. Very sharp, holds edge well. Looks classy, get lots of compliments about it. Very useful for normal knife uses. Sucks for hard cutting tho.

I mean if I know I'm gonna be doing some hard shit I'd use a cheap knife so I wouldn't feel bad if it breaks but for outdoors it would have to be a FULL TANG fixed blade. Even a cheap one will hold up for most uses

the adventurer guy: look, here. my machete. it came along with me last month, in the jungles of panama...it has taken on some rust, though the other adventure guy: way too unhandy. I got me a kukri. I can hack things with that, as well as neat carving works. the scout boy: I have an opinel. it's nice. the gadget guy: I own six multi tools. my favourite one has four blades, ten different screw drivers, a wine opener thingy, magnifying glass, scissors and pliers. I can cut wire with it. camping chef guy: here, my japanese kitchen knife with 10 inch blade. gotta cut my ingredients up. today on the menue: boar a la wild. the hardcore survivalist: what knife? I bite em logs wif my teef! bloody poussays! *spits on floor* the palaeo enthusiast: no knife for me. I knap my cutting edges as I need them, ughh! has anyone seen a flint nodule, anywhere? and some hammer stones, perhaps?

This is funny for me because I have used my sp2 for bushcraft. It's not a bad all around knife. Factory edge. Oof! With some work it's learning to cut.

I collect once in a while but the guy at the pilot almost sliced his fingers open with a stilleto. I had to take over because i did not want to see any blood. And no i dont always collect from the gas station. Its just that some of there knives are cheap and honestly pretty good for small stuff nothing big. Thats where the machete comes in hand. 🙂

I'm kinda two in one. I always have a clip knife hanging in my pocket, and if I know I might need a bigger one, I'll carry one of my many full tang knives on my belt. Too many uses for a steel blade to not have one on hand at all times.

Meh, a good multitool is good enough for most functions. Now you can argue about multi tool brands. Might I humbly suggest the leatherman wave knockoff.

Well a seat belt cutter is a cool thing to have, if your car gets smashed and the mechanism of the seat belt breaks then the only way to get out is to cut, or wait hours for help to arrive.
