I really like the metric system EXCEPT for wire diameter. AWG is a better scale versus metric sizing IMO, but I think metric bolts are easier to work with. The amount of different types of screws, bolts and threading for them is astounding.

I came upon your jewelry making tutorials. I'm not in the JMB I am just looking for information on how to reattach the end of a four string necklace that is made with fine wires. The wires pulled loose from the crimp on the end. I want to make sure I use the correct pieces to attach the ends of the four wires evenly together. Do I use a crimp that folds with a loop? I'm thinking that the only way to hold the wires in place while I secure the crimp is to use a bit of glue??

Hey lovely, Thank you for your comment. Is there just a short amount of string to add the crimp? Or can you feed these right through? x

i tried 2 brands "brass" wire (0.6-1 mm), but it's really weird, it's hard and big spring back, when i try to close ring i can't and if i use more force it breaks easily (IDK what to do with it). But there is same type silver plated wire and it is flexible, no problem to work. I also have 2mm brass wire and it's totally different, i bought from some warehouse where sell metal stuff XD

Which types of wires are good for making ear wires? I have some stainless steel wire that I'm experimenting with but plenty of German style silver plated, "gold color" and copper wire - just would like to know what is safe and what to keep on hand.
@JewellersAcademy4 жыл бұрын
It depends on your design really, silver or gold plated wires are good, brass can irritate sometimes, I believe stainless steel is more hypoallergenic. You might want to consider using sterling silver if you're concerned about customers allergies to nickel. x

what type of wire is best when it comes to not turning your hands green :3 xx
@JewellersAcademy3 жыл бұрын
It is silver or gold plated wire that can often end up tarnishing. I'd recommend using sterling silver if you want to avoid this! x

Thank you for the information. Silver plated, gold plated do tarnish overtime so how or what is needed to clean those tarnished silver plated or gold plated jewellery to bring back its shine? While cleaning those plated wires beads do come in contact, so will beads get damaged while cleaning those plated wires?
@JewellersAcademy3 жыл бұрын
You could always use a silver cleaning cloth to try and remove the tarnish. However, because the plating is only a thin layer, unfortunately there may not be anything you can do to get rid of it and the only other option would be to re-plate. Regarding the beads - it will depend on what kind you've used, but they are unlikely to be damaged by the cleaning cloth or chemical its impregnated with. Hope that helps x
