I've kept a diary for nearly 20 years and started writing it on a typewriter in late 2021. Then I started collecting... Last year's diary came to ~155,000 words on 488 typewritten pages. Most of it on my Royal Empress, Olympia SM-8, Brother Activator, IBM Selectric I, and Wheelwriter 6 S II...and two or three others.

(tried to keep this short, well it's not as long, so kind of short, It's pretty good I think lol) I've found that since I've retired, every day is Saturday. 6 Saturday's and 1 Sunday. I write: Horror, Comic Horror, Historical Fiction, Sci-fi, Comedy, Mystery, Suspense, Psychology thrillers, out of the box and Dark comedy, High Fantasy, Family, Romance, short stories, novellas, to full length Novels and screenplays. Currently I'm cleaning a SCM Electra 110 from 1972, and looking forward to receiving my Brother Thermal EP-20. First Thermal in my collection. It's 238 AM in NC. Gearing up to start 3 projects novels, And a Short story submission to a magazine. And in the future: I think one day I'd like a typewriter on the ready hooked up to an endless roll of paper. Have an open journal that family and/or friends can type in. Have it laminated in sheets by page number, I don't know, something like that, but title it "A Record of Us." And I'm trying to watch and Thumbs up on the like button ever 900+ video you have Joe! For weeks at it now, I must be close to the middle and I hope your analytics show a Like increase on your channel. I'm also sharing and telling people about your channel. You work hard and I'm trying to do my part too.❤ My way of saying thank you. Be well this morning my friends!

I am happy that you brought up this topic. Interest in our planners can distract us from planning, and interest in our writing devices can distract us from actually writing! I love the simple, kind way in which you explain things. I am becoming a fan!

I work on a book, but love typing absoloute nonsense more, I'll be listening to a video or song in the background and pick out random words and phrases I hear and try touch typing it a bunch of times as fast as I can. It is quite addictive since I can just continously type without without stopping or slowing down to think about what I'll write

I have written a 105,000 paged series for the past 6 years, no editor is going to touch it though.

Great video! As you know, it's poetry for me. During the course of a day, I will hear or read some form of inspiration that will trigger the first couple of lines. When I have time, I will sit down at a typewriter and follow the thread. Sometimes, I don't know what the next line will be until I see the previous line in print. I guess that would be called flow or stream of consciousness. I always enjoy your videos!

Yep, diarys, shortstorys, pamphlets and letters i never would send, letters to typepals, even learning fingerdrills for touchtyping, so many fine things to use a typewriter, even with no digital traces.

Although I haven't used my typewriters for visual arts, many people are into drawing portraits and other things with a typewriter! There are really amazing drawings done this way. Some are on Instagram. However, I've typed poems, Haïkus and, grocery lists :) Daniel

Funny point with "writing lists". I do have one small Erika 11 ready to type my weekly Home Cantina Menu. (Working from home I do preparing some lunch every day.) The weekly menu not just saves time but also assist my grocery list.

What a beautiful episode. Enticing, really. So many typewriters and so little (of some meaning) to write about (that's me). I will keep typing recipes, until I can overcome my nausea for my first (admittedly, unreadable) 50 pages of a novel. But I have to type, anyway. These wonderful machines deserve this.

Great video (as usual). Thanks for the subject matter. We made a thermal into an IOT device for a while. It printed weather reports. Linux to the old typewriter interface. Now it is in a box ready for a move.

I sometimes write with my royal quiet(1958). I've compared writing with a typewriter vs a computer. There is a differance between the two. Not saying one is better but its something to try and notice the difference between the two.

Therapeutic sorting out of life experiences. Maybe that falls under the heading of “memoirs”.

Hello Joe, I tried commenting on your blog, but an error occurred. I saw your video about the thermal camera and I bought one "for my son" as a Christmas gift. We are having loads of fun with it. Thank you for the recommendation!I also saw your video about typing letters. Would you mind sharing your address or PO box if you have one so I can send you a letter?By the way, I love your videos! Cheers!

Last summer I sampled the mechanical noises of my Brother electric typewriter and used them in a goth rock song. An unusual use case for sure. kzbin.infoniRgHddB3v8 More typically, I use my machines for drafting the scripts for my videos. I never write on computers anymore.

Define "private" Journal?
@Joe_VanCleave10 ай бұрын
In the history of writing, a journal could be public, implying what we know today as journalism; or conversely a recording of one’s private thoughts, which I’m hesitant to call a diary because it may not be as regular as every day.
