@pixiefeather42632 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's just so upsetting and sad that the government barely does anything for effective evacuation centers and facilities in times of disasters like this. They always depend on the resilience of the Filipinos and it is really really toxic. I mean, I admire how strong our people are in this kind of times but they should help our people coz it's their job. In my province, all of the houses of the people there are destroyed and unrecognizable, if not, they are heavily damaged. People there need clothes, food, and especially clean water but sadly, there are very few that responded to them. My military uncle flew to our province two days before the storm and luckily, he got a signal and immediately called us to tell our other relatives from abroad that they are okay and safe. We are so worried because we hadn't had any contact with them for a day. There is only one casualty but sadly all of the houses and wrecked. Only a few responded for their help that they were desperately posting the damages that this typhoon had caused. It is just so heartbreaking and just imagining what happened to the places that were landed by the storm breaks my heart. Sorry if this is kinda long, I was just ranting at this point.

Glad to see that you guys that you are ok. I'm used to all you are experiencing because we have hurricanes 🌀 here in Florida, there, they are called typhoons. Here the buildings are designed to take the bitting and there are canals to handle the rain and roads and power lines are very strong too. As you can see, it is not a good idea to have trees near the houses and buildings of any kind. Properties could be fixed and replaced, but not lives. Help out as much as possible... I have watched several videos and there are lots of damages allover the areas affected. Cebu City by Ayala Mall has lots of damages as well as It Park. Be alway careful around trees they could come down on you and power lines could be dangerous because of standing water if the are live or are power up suddenly. I hope and pray 🙏 for the lives of humans as well as animals. Stay safe guys. I know, we always send help from the USA, and we also have navy hospitals in area that could help the injured.

Siargo Island and Dinagat Islands at the northeast tip of Mindanao were the first two places hit and they took the full force of the Category 5 Super Typhoon. 95% of all structures either destroyed or severely damaged. No electricity or telecommunications. Where I live in uptown Cagayan de Oro was OK, but downtown CDO was flooded, and we lost all telecommunications until Saturday afternoon. My wife's family home in Macanhan downtown in CDO only just avoided being flooded out. Some other houses nearby there were heavily damaged by flooding. We escaped the damaging winds and storm surges that affected people in Siargo and Dinagat Islands, and in Bohol. The last count of deaths that I saw was 75, and more than half of those were in Bohol.

One thing I notice is that the African tuliptree (or African flame tree, the ones with big bright red flowers) and African acacias (like the one in 15:02 ) almost always break during typhoons. They're not native, so they're not built for this weather. Sad thing is, they're commonly planted near buildings and resorts, so they cause quite a lot of damage.

@@my_other_side473 there are indeed acacia species (Acacia confusa) in the PH but they are not widely spread over the country and you can seldom see them in the wild. The acacia we usually see in the urban are not true acacias (Samanea saman), and they originally came from Central and South America. They are not built for PH typhoons and they can be easily uprooted by strong winds.

In my chilhood and pre-teen years, I experienced two of the most powerful typhoons to hit the country - Dading in 1964 with a 185 kph sustained winds and Yoling in 1970 with a 250 kph sustained winds which knock out most of the electric posts in Metro Manila and caused a blackout which lasted a month together with a water shortage. We have to adapt as we used charcoal based iron to iron our clothes, deepwell water to wash our clothes, kerosene lamps to light the house and government provided water tank to provide potable drinking water. I also experienced other strong typhoons as Metro Manila was the regular path of typhoons then.

My mom thankfully remembered to also harvest rainwater when wind was calmer and so not as worried for days without tap
