People don't lock their houses? Perhaps they also don't just wander into a total stranger's house without knocking first and asking permission to come and film - and film their female relatives before asking, in a Muslim country! Even if this is a set up and you asked before filming - and only pretended you were just walking in unannounced - the women did NOT look comfortable about it! How would you feel if a stranger just walked in and started filming you in your home? And your wife? Would you be so polite and welcoming? I am stunned at this woman implying it is totally OK to omit the most basic, universal courtesies! It seems incredibly arrogant! Did she even take off her shoes?

exactly, we are very welcoming bc its part of our culture but it's very fucking disrespectful to walk around shoving cameras at our faces. nd the way she said we grow up peacefully without violence lol. we also hav gang violence nd drug issues. the gang violence not affecting tourists doesnt mean the locals have it easy. 🥱

"Nobody locks their door" completely false. We're live in the 21st century, what do u expect? You must have went to an island where "stealing" is very rare. I live in addu city and, most of us make sure to lock our doors since crime is common. Not only in addu.

Addu is not like the rest of the Maldives. Addu is a city. Higher population equals higher crime. Rest of the maldives isn't like that. We never lock our door even when we go to bed.

Addu it is like that, because there are lots of drug addicts that steals. But in our islands in Northern Maldives people usually don't lock their houses , because there is no stealings and people are very peaceful .

As a local, I find this video a bit cringeworthy. First off, most islands don’t experience major crimes, but petty theft does happen, so yes, people do lock their homes. The fact that she just waltzes into people's houses? Definitely staged. While we are a hospitable people, and she likely wouldn't get thrown out, in reality, people would be caught off guard if someone did this unannounced. To truly capture life on the islands, there’s no need for this invasion of privacy. It’s still every bit as wondrous and charming without it. SMH.
