Dani also said that during elimination. The first thing Tyra said to her was "Why do you still have a gap in your teeth, I told you to fix the gap." Looked at production and asked them the same thing. They just shrugged. So was Tyra and productions plan.

I saw a video this particular contestant made. She spoke about how she was really subconscious about it as a kid and then her kum sat her down and said that her grandmas both have the same gap and the model spoke about how she reflected on it and how much she respected her grandmas and how much of role models both were for her. I found it so cool how she grew to love something about her in that way.

@@pcsmush maybe at the time, but she has since come out about the fact that the person who performed the procedure cut corners and that she will have so much additional cost down the line to fix/maintain. Veneers shave the teeth down and fit a cap over each one individually, and some of the shittier dentists shave waaay more than they need to, which not only weakens the teeth but also makes it harder and harder down the line to fit new ones. Not to mention the cost, 900-2500$ per tooth, every 5-10 years and unlikely that dental insurance covers any of it. 🤮 Seriously, this should be a last resort.

Very rarely can you get braces for "one tooth." Even if one or two teeth need to move into proper alignment, your other teeth are affected. Your occlusion can then be off, and in turn, you can have jaw/chewing problems and fracture teeth. Not really important, but just wanted to clarify a bit.

This is just awful. Like to pressure a model to make a literal PERMANENT change to their body for a tv show? I love how much she loved her gap. It’s amazing to see representation of all types of insecurities and how beautiful and unique they make us, and yet they tried to plant this idea in her head constantly that its ugly and needs changing. Lauren Hutton's tooth gap was her signature look when she became a supermodel in th 1970s. There is no way Tyra was unaware of this, and in fact, in a later season Tyra had a contestant's teeth surgically *widened*, citing Hutton as an inspiration for the gap-tooth look. It's all so hypocritical and just part of her track record of abusive treatment.

Tyra was also aware of Brandy cycle 4 in 2003/2004 who had the biggest tooth gap in all of antm. Tyra loved her gap and so did all the judges. 23 models on antm in all 24 cycles, had gap teeth. Which end of the series do you think they appeared the most on? Yes towards the end, when gaps were in again, 2010 and onwards especially 2017-2018. I love how time doesn't exist in your universe except when you can throw out a quick Google search fact about a model from the 70s. 2012 about Leila cycle 19, "the gap tooth seems to be the gateway to high fashion right now".

Apparently being on ANTM (at least when Tyra was on), is akin to joining a cult. You have to change your physical appearance, modeling comes before your family (boyfriends included), your feelings are not your own and Tyra will tell you what you’re actually feeling and tell you how you should feel even though there is no way for her to know what another person feels, and every interaction has some sort of motive behind it. Fun side note, my phone wants to autocorrect Tyra to Tyrant.
@blahberrypancake
@blahberrypancake 2 жыл бұрын
Omg those are my feelings exactly. When they showed that part I was like "is this a cult?" Like, they're literally telling them not to contact their loved ones, gaslight them into their way of thinking, criticize them for having feelings that don't align with their agenda, threaten to send them home for not doing something that could literally change their life or just for standing up for themselves when the judges are clearly wrong about something. IT'S A CULT.

I was proud of my gap, but got braces as a child "for my own good" and "because I couldn't know what I would want in the future." Which may have very well been true, but imagine my surprise afterward finding out adult braces exist! ;) I was supposedly saved a cost, but that assumes I didn't want my gap, and it turns out I def. missed it and felt a little less myself for a while. Its kind of funny that for many people braces come when you are entering or in puberty (if you are lucky to be able to afford them), there are already so many changes you don't usually have a choice about at that age! Anyway like many kids I got used to the new smile, and stopped making my parents feel bad bc I knew it was so expensive... but when my gap reasserted itself a little over time I was actually relieved. Was I "lazy" with my retainer or was it subconscious, or a little of both? ;) TLDR; I wished that I had been listened to a little more because I did have very strong feelings about keeping my gap even as a kid and felt pretty dismissed. Even if I still didn't get my way it would have meant a lot to not feel dumb for liking myself as is.

The point about maintaining the veneers is a VERY good point. A few models - including that girl iirc, have mentioned that with Top Model, be it teeth or hair cuts, they girl the girls expensive work with a lot of maintenance work or something that requires specialist knowledge to remove and they send them home to their regular lives and regular income. And a couple of the girls have mentioned that when their dentist or hair dresser has tried to reach out to the professionals hired by ANTM, they haven't been forthcoming in discussing the work carried out or sending over paperwork for the girls to have this work fixed.

I'm glad you had a good experience and are confident now. When I first watched in High School, I was so disappointed in Tyra, because I absolutely loved this show and Tyra, but I grew up with a gap in my front teeth, like Dani's. Sadly, I didn't want my mine closed, because my teeth were mostly straight, the only issue was the gap and one tooth that's oddly shorter than the rest for not reason, lol (braces couldn't fix that though, lol). My mom made me get braces and it did close the gap, but it caused my other teeth to start overlapping the other teeth, so now I have cricked teeth 🙁 and I miss my gap, lol. But yeah, my point is that this show really diminished my confidence and it was one of the first times I noticed the show sending an unhealthy message, but I did absolutely love Dani for being so confident about it and standing up for herself.

@@Gudda16 I'm more confident now, but I wasn't for a long time unfortunately. I don't think my dentist knew exactly what they were doing, because I'd tell them the braces were way too tight or poking through my cheek and they'd basically ignore it til it got way worse. The wire literally poked halfway through my cheek and they finally trimmed the wire, lol. I also didn't need braces for the bottom teeth, but the dentist convinced my mom it's make my teeth more symmetrical, so both my top and bottom teeth are overlapping. I even got a bulldog tooth now lol where my bottom canine is overlapping the top canine 😂 Now I'm kind of more amused by that one though lol... But yeah, I always found it odd that Tyra was always saying she was made fun of for having a big forehead and then she'd say that it turned out to be a strength for her when she embraced it. Then she goes and contradicts herself by saying that other people's unique features will hurt their career, just like people told her her larger forehead would hurt her career. I know that as someone who had a gap tooth in the same spot as Dani, I would have related to her more and therefore she'd be more marketable toward me. So Tyra's statement was untrue and even if it was true and she was just trying to help, mocking Dani was not the right way to do it.

One thing I absolutely despise about Tyra is how much she talks a big game about boosting girls' self confidence and everyone is beautiful in their own way and blah blah blah but in reality, all she does is body shame women and put them down. As bad as it is on ANTM and her talk show, it's even worse in that awful book she wrote, Modelland. I would never suggest anyone read that...THING but it's cover-to-cover body shaming. She even describes a girl with body hair as a "hairy hag", repeatedly, and in great detail, throughout the entire book. Then, later on, the girl shaves all of her body hair and is immediately called pretty. What kind of a message is that for girls? Or how she treats aging as a horrifying, digusting punishment because wrinkles make you "ugly" in her eyes. What a champion for fighting against restrictive beauty standards, huh? She's such a hypocrite.

According to both Furonda and Joanie from their interviews with Oliver TwiXt, the dentist was doing way too much on Joanie's teeth to the point he didn't finish in time and she had to go back months later for him to finish her teeth. And with Dani, well, according to Dani from her IG live, she wasn't informed that Tyra wanted her gap to be closed, so during panel, what they didn't show they were back-and-forths between her and Tyra where Dani reluctantly concedes to have her gap closed but not fully.

Joanie seemed self-conscious about her teeth before (based on what she said here about having to practice smiling), so for her, this seems worthwhile. Danielle clearly had no problem with her gap existing and embraced it, pressuring her to change that and trying to lower her self confidence is just gross. Also the comment from Nigel about Joanie looking better now is just gross. Something like "you look much happier/more confident" at least implies that the change isn't purely aesthetic for other people's viewing pleasure. I just thought about it, a model before this season (Brandy season 4) had a gap bigger than Danielle’s , and they never said anything bad about it. Maybe, Danielle was a preselect winner and they felt Cover Girl wouldn’t accept her with the gap, which is why they tried so hard to press her to close it. Because anyone else with a gap they didn’t really bother, maybe because they knew the girl wasn’t selected to win the contract with Covergirl anyways so it didn’t matter. As an amateur make-up artist, let me tell you there are better ways to make it look like someone is crying on camera! They could have had the make-up team create fake tears on the models with special effects make-up (ie. oil, glycerin, eye drops). That's one of the things they do for movies if the actors can't cry on command (or if multiple takes are necessary). Tear sticks can be used, but if an actor (or model) doesn't want to have the burning sensation (some might be more sensitive to it) there are other options! It seems like the models didn't know the feeling the tear stick would have, and I assume they weren't given the option of having the tears be fake.

You’re clearly very serious abt what you do and I respect that a lot. Hope you’re doing well :) Also you’re absolutely gorgeous!!! Your hair looks so amazing in every video🙌

I'll never understand why some people dislike a gap in the two front teeth. My boyfriend has had a gap his entire life because of his genetics and it's cute. People will bully for the dumbest reasons.

I dont understand why they pulled the theeth from that girl out, she could have just taken braces. Cant believe antm had a young woman take out her teeth, thats horrible especially considering her age!

Jessica, you should check out the Cycle 15 episode where the contestants had to do a commercial while rollerblading.

I find it hard to believe that Tyra was unaware of Lauren Hutton-one of the most successful models of the 70s. She was known for a noticeable gap in her front teeth.

Love it when you do these videos! I don’t know why but I’d love for you to watch/react to each season of Rupauls Drag Race’s photo mini challenges aha

Jessica, I’d love you to react to a photoshoot challange on Rue Pauls Drag Race. They are soo lovely there, calling each other queens, babes, giving feedback with jokes - it would be a funny comparison to Tyra.

24:07 she actually had many phone calls, she was constantly argueing with her boyfriend, and even because of that some other girls couldn't use the phone, I mean that's what we've seen in the show but it might have been edited that way, your never know

@@Sunflower_Cats there's usually just one and they get limited time and have to divvy it up between them but nenna was using up all the time to fight with her insecure boyfriend. But the judges seemed extra catty that episode lol

I watched this season when it came out and all I can remb is that I didn’t like jade. Was it editing and ANTM making her a villain? Possibly. So what Tyra is saying has to do with jades past behavior. Not defending Tyra at all. I just know there’s more to the story. Weather that’s completely fabricated by production or what. I also think I recall the final three… anyway lol more from this season plshaha! Also, models w gaps in their teeth now are just how it is! We love gaps!

They do know that they could’ve had a positive impact on so many young girls and had them make feel confident with their unique features.. but hey … who wants positive reinforcement …
