@TimmySmalls225 ай бұрын
Hey Ed. I'm glad to see that the first part is finally out. I'm happy to see my copy finally getting used, if I still had it then it would still be in a corner collecting dust as I worked on my other projects. When I first got this box back in late 2022 I had a plan to tackle the box but it quickly overwhelmed me. My orginal plan was to get modern minis. I did not want to use my own Tyranids since I would want to leave everything in the box or at least in a separate box with the Tyranid Attack box. So I would need 6 Tyranid Warriors, 10 Genestealers, 3 Genestealer Hybrids, 10 scouts, 5 Terminators and a Librarian. As I was planing out how many minis i was gonna need I played the game on table top simulator since I did not want to pop out all the tokens and maps just yet. I found that there were more rules for Eldar as well as Dreadnoughts and expanded space Marine rosters. I wanted to included a lot more. The more I thought of it the more I became overwhelmed with the amount of minis I would need to buy and paint. At the time I had a small army of Eldar and Sisters of Battle and a larger force of Space Marines and a tyranids but the majority of them were unpainted and I wasn't as confident as I am now in my painting skills. I let my plan languish and abandoned it. While it is unfortunate I didn't realize my dream of restoring it but I'm glad I was able to provide it to you. I'm looking forward to the follow up video with the battle report of the game. What will the Tyranid Spider and Grabber represent? When I played two games on Table top simulator there was a robot that could be found that the Space Marine player could use. I was going to get a Blackstone fortress to represent that token. I found that the game was one of Attrition. At first the few tyranids that spawned could easily be dealt with but as the organs and exploration cards were found ambushes would happen and slowly the space marine player would be whittled down. The Space Marine player in the next video will need some luck. There better be a ton of Quotes from Aliens in it, I can't wait for it! -King of Reposts

Binging through the backlog of this channel (as well as a few others, similar ones) has given me so much joy over these last, trying weeks. Thank you for this. I dabbled in 40K for a bit during 2nd edition, but soon went with WHFB instead, so I only ever followed 40k from a distance. Those years from ca. 1990- ca. 1996 will always be peak "Games Workshop" aesthetics to me, and I could never see myself get into any of their current stuff. But watching these channels has planted the idea to cobble together a couple of 2nd edition Space Marines off eBay and trying to get back into painting again, probably just recreating some patterns of old on them.

Tyranid Attack came out in 1992 before 2nd edition was released in late 1993. And quite along time before Ripper Swarms were introduced in 2E Codex: Tyranids (1995). The Grabber-Slasher was from Advanced Space Crusade (1990) which was the more complex predecessor to Tyranid Attack that really liked D12s for some reason. The Space Hulk - Space Crusade - Advanced Space Crusade - Tyranid Attack pipeline was wild. The 1E 40K Tyranid army in White Dwarf 145 (January 1992) had them listed as "Squig Swarm"... and was the first and only time squids were ever mentioned as being linked to Tyranids.

Fun game to play with room clearing tactics and a cheap way to build a scout marine squad. But definitely the material of tyranid miniatures did not stand the test of time after painting tending to disintigrate to dust. Also I liked these turkey tyranid designs the best, but they were abandoned for chunkier designs. Also I think the original set did not include terminators or magus but were easy to buy from Wh40K sets. I definitely had ASC, so my comments might not apply to Tyranid Attack which was basically a update/sequel.
