That army deserves a very gently wash and a return to the tabletop. It is surely a tribute to a better time, a freer time.

Idk the name but it was one of the designers at old GW. He had some article in a white dwarf, where he showed of his room full of trash, all waiting to be crafted into minis, terrain, dioramas, and so on...with the hint that his wife would not approve of this😅 Or ye olden times when gluing together Ork minis from what's left over was encouraged...

I started messing with miniatures in early 90s (born in 82) and used some old school glue and put it on some type of foam bush. Seen smoke rising and everything was melting on the table. I think it was some original D&D Barbarian metal sculpts back then

Apparently it was a pain in the butt for then since often they had to cast a whole metal sprue, cut off one part, then throw the rest of the sprue back into the pot to melt back down again
@judgecohen137313 күн бұрын
@@nicholasscott3287 Nope. Different jobs. There were racks with thousands of bins. After they were spun the casters would break them off, inspect them and sort them. Then pickers would out them into their appropriate spots on the shelves until needed by the MO trolls or packers. There were also mold (mould) cutters/makers who would cut the vents for casting or press new molds from the masters we would get from main production. They were good at their jobs so unless there was a mold problem due to bad venting or some other issue, the parts were kept for future use. Eventually someone wanted one of everything.

Loved hacking things up back in the day! Was too young to have money to order parts, so would sneak onto Dad's shed when he was still at work and slowly figured out how to use glue, saws and bench grinders. No glasses, no gloves, no breathing protection. Just me and a heap of lead dust and glue fumes hanging out. Its probably why some of my conversions were so psychedelic 😂

2025 is GW's 50th anniversary - if you get a good pic spread i think this would be perfect for a White Dwarf feature :)
@DeathInTheSnow17 күн бұрын
Even though this is all compete 100% GW metal, resin and plastic, and maybe even on the correct bases, modern GW wouldn't let you play this at events, and probably not even at stores. I've seen, first-hand, people rejected for using 1993 Space Marines because they were "too small", even though they'd been rebased. They will stop you from using 3D printed shoulder pads or heads. They just want you to use their monopose, single loadout kits, and nothing else. I dread to think what 2025 and 11th edition will be like. They'll probably sell to a private equity firm by then...
@chameleonedm15 күн бұрын
Yeah, because in a competitive setting if all of your dudes are 1/3rd shorter then you are going to have less line of sight available. For what you're suggesting to be allowed, what you are also allowing is utter pay to win nonsense as the oldest and rarest kits become competitively advantaged. Now the barrier to entry is massive, similar to formats such as modern or even legacy in MTG You can act as doomer as you want, but there is a very clear and obvious reason for not allowing these models in competitive tournaments
@BreadTeleporter196814 күн бұрын
What GW stores have you been to, my local one probably wouldn’t even care if you play non-Warhammer games
@DeathInTheSnow14 күн бұрын
@@chameleonedm What the hell are on about with that deranged rant? Have you seen the 1993 minis? They're firstborn sized. The guy wasn't trying to play them as Primaris, just as firstborn. They're also ridiculously easy to find because they came in every kit for a decade, including the painting kits. And for that reason, they don't go for much either, so I have no idea where this "pay to win" mentality of yours comes from, *_especially as this a hobby and not a competitive game._*
