hey guys i just want to say how awesome you guys are. i remember watching ya'lls battle reports in high school (probably around 10 years ago now) and just wanting to get into 40k so bad but didn't have the money. I'm now 25 and im just tired of videogames and want to get into something more fulfilling. Even with mortal-wound spam, I think Tyranids are the underdog, especially with the Brigade requirements, which always seem really painful. Not sure if that's still true; it's just a gut feel

Post-viewing Reaction: Not surprised. Custodes are very good, and honestly Abhor the Witch is a little much compared to the other secondaries. The Biovores were a surprisingly good utility pick - getting to place mines is awesome - and the amount it discourages charges is pretty great when melee is hitting above weight class for once. I feel Matt lacked ability to deal with the Dreadnought, most flavors of which I think are about to become more common with their recent changes, but tying it up with cheapo characters was okay.

Been playing Nids since 2nd - 3rd edition. Nids are so the underdogs. No matter how bad will always Nids are my first army and will always have my heart. Custodes, Aeldari, Orks...... it is all biomass to us now not nom......burp!!

the fact that Mortal wound spam is one of the few ways Tyranids can play is what makes me the most sad in this game thou Josh has an up hill battle depending on his rolls. Matt FAQ changed it so Spore Mines can charge now when they spawn and Matt its when someone ends a move or charge within 1 of a Spore mine they blow

It's not. On!y versus custodes. Against any other army this Tyranids list would have been one of the worst lists possible. Exocrine and hive guard spamming is way way better. Tyranids are not bad, but the need to the genestealers points cost hurt them a lot.

Hey Matt when you play the game like you're playing *with* your opponent against yourself via constantly giving advice and preempting their decision making process it has the effect of robbing your opponent of the feeling of victory while doing nothing to make defeats hurt less. You can tell by the end Josh is just depressed with the whole thing because the interaction is emotionally exhausting.

Again Space Marines are over powered. Mathew played the Tyranids expertly, got good rolls, kept his eye on the objectives and still got trounced by Games Workshop's favorite sons.

I've seen a Tyranid list similar to this before, by a dude called Stormcoil, and honestly, it's pretty strong due to the board control the Mawloc+Ripper swarms+Lictors offers. The one I saw takes fewer Lictors and ripper swarms and gets a few Horms for objective saturation and a max unit of Hive Guard for heavy support.

@@GenSphinx seem pretty op to me. They have great armour, a good invun and can even deny psychic powers. Their terminators are crazy powerful with the stratagem Even Greyknights couldn't beat them in our club crusade campaign, Primaris seem to get steamrolled by them quite easily

Custodes are a strong army right now. But over powered not even close, Custodes are made to tear apart marines and most Custodes players can't do it.

On Tyranids in competitive. They are currently working well as an anti-meta army. Because everyone is loading up on elite killers, Tyranid swarms can actually do pretty well at board control. Orks are still doing it better, but the surprise of suddenly facing almost 200 guants can trip up all but the best lists.

@John Generic well the rule of 3 is a matched play rule and except troops ypu cant bring any ubit more than 3 times. But even if they do not play matched play rules - but they do - the rule of 3 is a rule that should always apply just to precent broken or boring lists. Battlescribe itaelf does not have the rule of restriction though

2 Lictors is enough and Deploy Scramblers and Line Breaker are your friends with these boys. You can quite easy max these out. The best way to be competitive with Nids is to Mix Fleets which matt says he's totally against because its not fluffy. You need Leviathan doing the scoring and Kronos doing the shooting.

Current Nid lists are usually many Hive Guard and Exocrines as Kronos, with either lots of gaunts or warrior or zoanthrobes to hold objectives. As for a spore mine list. While Biovores are nice, they are quite expensive though. Better to bring a couple of sporocysts, they can spawn 3 small ones or a big spore mine each turn, plus shoot a big one at close range and have 5 guns. Harpys also have spore mines. All that with leviathan should be good to give everything a 6+ FNP. Maybe combine it all with venomthrobes and something to hold objectives. With 6 biovores, 2 harpys and 6 sporocysts it should be fairly easy to drown the board in sporemines without having to waste points on buying any.

Relating to the brief tyranids meta discussion at the end of the video I think someone placed 4th using an anti-meta guant spam list in a GT and just winning mostly on primary points from turns 1-3 because most lists are built to take down marines and custodes, not hordes

Abhor the Witch is good to allow players who have no psykers or no access to psykers a chance to effectively be "part of the phase". Conversely, if the player is taking Abhor the Witch, they cannot stop the opponent from doing psychic tests (obviously) but also cannot stop them from doing a psychic action for victory points. Perhaps AtW could use some tweaking in terms of points gained, but the purpose is clear.

Josh is definitely on the underdog his list is elite while the tyranids have multiple sources that do egregious amounts of mortal wounds. That hurts elite lists more than anything else and really puts them on a back foot starting the game. On top of that appearance ability to hold objectives is going to be very powerful with so many ripper swarms. True the custodies have objective secure but the mortal wounds should help screen that
