Love watching your process. I myself work in the aerospace alloy industry. We have a forge press that forges 53x24 inch ingots 120" long right behind me at work every night. I myself run a 110" rolling mill. We do everything you do on a different scale. It's so neat to watch you do it yourself. your end product leaves me sitting here with my jaw wide open. You make some of the most beautiful steel I have ever seen in my life. That lathe and mill, when I have enough garage room I absolutely have to have one. I won't let a deal on a lathe or Bridgeport pass me by for sure.

Now I know the reason why the last two videos was the old projects! This dagger looks great, and I'm very impresed!! At the begining I was preaty much sure that you made 3 parts guard. Making it from one piece had to be very dificult, but it can't be more solid:)! Denis, This dagger is magnificent work of art! The only think I would change is the place where your mark is - but I know that find the right place was very tougt decision.
@TyrellKnifeworks

Hey there! There is something as force flow in materials(it's hard to explain but you can look up in a mechanics book). So you better hammer the edge of the dagger and not grinde it. So that you can cut harder things and it also reduce the risk of breaking. You are pretty good in QT. This is really smart to use that owen. I really liked your video I am gonna watch other videos too :) Cheers!

Nice work! I wonder if it would have been easier to file in the wire channel first and then filed the flutes up to it. That way you would have to file it flat again and possibly change the diameter of the handle. But none the less it worked out great. Beautiful dagger for sure.

Is you want to remove the spring from the twisted wire just grab it between 2 fingers at the vice and run those fingers to the dril and cut it there

Looks great, but why would you ever form the handle that way? Have you tried using it with bare hands? It must be extremely painful.
@TyrellKnifeworks
@TyrellKnifeworks 3 жыл бұрын
It’s actually very comfortable. This is a very common shape for quillion dagger handles. Thanks for watching.

next time you're turning a fluted or wire wrapped handle you could save yourself a lot of time by using the screw cutting function on your lathe. just set the thread pitch to something that's evenly divisible by the length of the handle and it will come out perfect. cut multiple "threads" for multiple wires.
@TyrellKnifeworks
@TyrellKnifeworks 2 жыл бұрын
The problem is that the taper of the handle changes from front to back so it’s not a simple setup. Actually very complicated so it’s really not worth doing on the large in my opinion. You’d have to also do the flutes so they match. I’d rather do them by hand. Thanks for the thought though and thanks for watching, Alex!
@AlexMageethefirst
@AlexMageethefirst 2 жыл бұрын
@@TyrellKnifeworks I'm a cnc machinist so I my default "it will be easy" didn't take the taper into account, however if you have a power-feed on your cross-slide you can match a taper. Its the same technique people use for NPT type tapered threads, although the math may be more trouble than its worth.
@TyrellKnifeworks
@TyrellKnifeworks 2 жыл бұрын
@@AlexMageethefirst yeah, it’s not a straight taper, it would be an arc. The math hurts my head. 😜

I love watching these videos and your knives are beautiful. One suggestion when twisting steel wire like that is to hit it with a blow torch and heat it a bit. That keeps the twisted wire straight and prevents crimping. Once again I love your videos

@@TyrellKnifeworks no problem I love your videos I do have to say though I would have thought the Spartan sword would have been the more challenging
@TyrellKnifeworks
@TyrellKnifeworks 3 жыл бұрын
@@wayneking9997 The spartan sword is bigger but such a wider blade is easier to grind. Daggers are just hard because there's 4 bevels instead of 2 and they must meet EXACTLY in the center or it looks very odd. Plus those flares at the ricasso, the guard needing to be turned on the lathe, lots of other complicated items on the dagger. That wire inlay on the handle was tricky too. The spartan sword is the first time I cut my teeth with wire wrapping so it was good practice! 👍🏻
