I had the Hankook on an SUV , for about a month. They were useless in Nordic conditions, and I switched to Hakka R5 after that. Huge difference on snow and ice. But the Hakkapeliitta R5 is very bad at aquaplaning. One of the worst tires I've had in heavy rain.

Just rewatched that video again for reference. Is there a resource available where we could possibly reference CE winter, soft compound, and studded tire geographical suggested areas. North Americans and Europeans may not be familiar with each place's geographical climates, and a reference guide might be handy for ex-pats and immigrants. Not that I'm suggesting that you should have to do it. You put a ton of work into these reviews, and you are my 1st stop for comparisons when tire shopping. Keep up the good work!@@tyrereviews

@@tyrereviewsyes do explain, I am no expert , I live in Québec and our winters are also a mix. Powdered and wet snow, slush, 0 c to -40c, rain once or twice, lots of black Ice on overpass. You are a legend. Thanks again for making these videos. It's invaluable material for us drivers trying to make the right safe choice. I had 4 Goodyear vector 4seasons gen 3 put on the family car this weekend. Compared to the Pilot sports Ive been using for years the car felt more softer, a bit squidgy but I will get used to that. but most importantly I know i can be confident that my family will be safe in wet or winter conditions, and that's what really matters. Even the tyre fitter said that these are the only tyres he uses for his family cars. thank you from a UK subscriber

According to the subjective opinion of most people in my country, if we take premium tires, Goodyear UltraGrip Performance Plus SUV is considered a better option than Conti or Michelin. We often have “porridge” on our roads - a mixture of water, snow, sand and mud. + bad roads. It is believed that the TS 870 P and Pilot Alpin 5 SUV are better for the Eurowinter, where there is less snow and better roads. The main complaint about Conti is that they wear out quickly. Most likely, this is due to the quality of the road surface.

Great review. It would be good though if you state the temperature for the wet/dry testing. In this and the other winter/AS videos. If not below say 7 degrees doesn't it compromise the results given the optimal design parameters, and especially if doing any comparisons with summer tyres? Slopes too - I've managed along flat sections in the snow ok with summer tyres before, after a suddenly flurry, but it's the traction uphill and breaking downhill that makes a difference and really matters. Great if you could get more of that in. It's hard to do everything, but I'd guess it's probably more useful to most than lap times on snow... if less fun :)

I really miss the Ice driving test in this one. Winter annoyingly has it all, but the most worrysone moments are ice. Even in dry circumstances, you'll have ice collection near traffic lights as cars dump their water via the exhaust there. About 50 meters of it to the traffic lights. And of course when snow gets compacted to black ice which usually takes just one day. Happy to see Maxxis in the test. Off road possibly the best Mud and maybe AT tires, so good to see they are branching out and did a decent job. I assume they'll improve in the coming years and become one of the main brands where price and quality are best. I just bought the maxxis and Nokians, but mainly as there was nothing else available for my LC200, Prado 150 and Suzuki Grand Vitara. I do have older Miss Alpines, and despite having done 60k on them, i do have some trust left in them. Great tires. Thanks for the review, top quality as always.

So my take away is: In order to improve rolling resistance it is very difficult not do a huge trade off (against wet / aqua / snow). Alpin 5 was best in snow and other, because it kept to this rule. However Conti managed to improve RR without much tradeoff, which is nice.

I will be getting these Continentals for this winter for my brand new hybrid 4wd CRV. The Rolling resistance was major factor as hybrid can go far on electric mode (not plug in version) the less resistance it has. Sure Alpin 5 has better noise reduction but at the cost of RR that is too high.

I know ppl who run on bald tires because they cannot afford new tires. Heck, I've even seen all 4 tires with the wires showing! They cannot afford to not have tires with some tread left but if all they can afford for their $200 beater are cheap tires, then I'm not going to judge them. Sometimes they even have to buy used tires, but yeah, I agree: always buy the best tires you can afford because medical bills can easily run into the thousands (in the US). Any plans to come back to the US for more testing? It's time for me to acquire a new set of all seasons and tuck away the summer wheels and tires. My local tire shop sold me on an exclusive set made by Continental that only they carry and I'm wondering how it compares to the (now legendary it seems) DWS06+. The sales person says the DWS is more for larger cars and SUV's, while the other Continental is supposed to be better for smaller, lighter cars with respect to driving dynamics. Consequently, I can find absolutely nothing online comparing the two and it's given me the epiphany that such a test could enable some broader conclusions about the efficacy of "exclusive" tire formulations across different vendors, for example how they're positioned with regard to the performance vs price scale. Appreciate the great work as always, keep it up and stay safe!

@@tyrereviews it seems more like a mutual agreement to me, because Continental has no MSRP on those tires and as such the tire shop is allowed to charge whatever they want. So they priced them $3 below the DWS06+ in the same size lol. Once I get them mounted and put a few miles on the tires I'd be happy to give some feedback for the site. But the reason I asked about the exclusives comparison is because, without having done any research prior, I'd assume it isn't only Discount Tire with some kind of exclusive offering and as such it makes me wonder if there truly is some kind of difference beyond the tread pattern with this class of tire lol Didn't know you live in the US, that's pretty cool!

Can someone explain why the Continental WinterContact TS 870 P is on the list, since it is not an SUV tyre? Continental officially specifies it as a "passenger car" tyre. I'm genuinely interested, as I'm considering it for an X1 U11.

Its good to know that if i take complete leave of my senses and get a +2t monster truck that there are good quality tyres to rein in all that weight.

the new M3 is almost 2t, you don't need a monstertruck for weight anymore!

My daughter uses gt ice pro on her suv and uses them all year long and they last 3 years! She tries to slide but she can't. She passes jeeps and everyone that's stuck. Yet you never hear about them!

I am curious about the impact of weight on these results. I drive a Volvo XC60 T6 recharge: way less sporty, a bit more powerful and way heavier (600kg more).

What’s the difference in Blizzak LM005 vs Blizzak DM-V2? I’m stuck trying to figure out what to fit on my 23’ RAV4 Prime PHEV and seeing the DM-V2 coming up most frequently.

What tire size is recommended i’ve been told that even if my car during summer uses 19 inches that I should get 16’s for winter.

New subscriber here. You have probably talked about this in one of your videos, i just havent seen your explanation. Why are you not including ice breaking or ice handling scores? I put winter tires on my vehicles not only for better snow traction but primarily for better ice traction.

Honestly disappointed there was no ice test, where i live we tend to get more ice than snow so its pretty important over here

It is frustrating that some of these tires are not available in places. You should include tires from previous seasons in your future reviews. That way, if we cant get access to some of them, its possible to compare them to previous generations.

These are winter tyres, should you not test the tires below 7*C? Preferably, below 0*C too show the difference of the compounds at or below freezing. Canadian drivers above the 39th parallel want to know.

The brands that always place well are ones I commonly recommend. I have to laugh that the "no name" or cheap Chinese tires are always as bad as you think they are. Can't personally believe people cheap out on tires. Great roundup as always!

Unfortunately, some ppl in the US sometimes only make minimum wage or got laid off and has to make every cent last. Also, hopefully ppl buying cheap tires will fund those companies better so that they'll become more competitive in the future or even come up with new technologies. I mean companies came up vulcanization, radial (vs bias) and their own unique compound and ratios and I look forward to newer and better technologies that the industry will adopt.

@@SayAhh True, but I too often see people driving an X6 or Escalade and have no name tires, with barely any thread on them. They are a danger to anyone on the road.

@@SayAhh "Also, hopefully ppl buying cheap tires will fund those companies better" - You are funding China by buying Pirelli, as they are Chinese owned, they do have access to the best Western technologies, yet they still make crappy tires, because they cheap out.

Not a winter tyre question.. What do you reckon between pirelli p7 c2 versus Goodyear asymmetric 5? 225/40r18 180kw fwd. mostly warm and dry year round. Goodyear costs about $200 more for a full set. Have had trouble finding good direct comparisons. Wanna know if Goodyear is worth the extra.
