These tires are absolutely wild. I had them studded; they handle like champions on any surface i’ve come across. They do not hydroplane, they dig right through any surface water, even up to 4” so far (at 60mph!), they love gravel roads, eat up bumps as nicely as any 2ply LT, and they have the MOST confidence & grip in the snow. INSANE!!!

How would you compare their stiffness/rigidity to other offroad tires? I worry these would be too hard for my trucks around the same weight as prado. I don’t know if it’s worldwide but here in America they are being marketed explicitly as a commercial truck tire for people who commute to mines and construction sites. You feel like they’re a good fit on your rig though?

How do you rate these after 1year?
@AndrewHacking18 күн бұрын
I ended up getting these for my ute because they are the go anywhere "your life depends on it" tyre which remote service and mining vehicles need... which is kind of perfect for my vehicle which is intended for travelling to some of the most remote and least populated locations on earth. They are a 3 ply tyres with a strong sidewall, not flimsy sidewalls like Wildpeaks. Depending on what profile you go with will also have some affect on the comfort level. Here in Australia we tend to prefer higher profile tyres for 4x4's so you have plenty of tyre to work with when lowering pressures for offroad conditions. Also higher profile helps to protect wheels from rocks. You can also lower tyre pressure slightly to increase comfort if the conditions require it at the expense of some additional tyre wear.

Tight twisting grades with steep grades. These skins with studs will climb like a mountain goat. I am a 38 year veteran owner operator long haul trucker. When my rig is chained with 2 sets of triples with heavy V-bar devices I pull my Super B Trains up anything. Australia gets snow too! You should know that! It's a pity Yokohama are not also yet bringing the Geolandar CV 4S G061 to Australia. The new G061 (3PMSF rated all season) would be super useful for those who do not need the all terrain capability of the G015 but need the wet road and snow and icy conditions capability on a tyre that can be used all year round. Anyone who goes to the alpine snow resorts, even once a year, or drives a lot on country roads in winter around New South Wales or Victoria, Tasmania, would do well in terms of general driving safety to get the new G061s.

How much driving do you do on the pavement, and do you air down much? I had the 15s for a while, they had a small whine on the highway that became very loud at a specific speed, and they hunted a fair bit on grooved surfaces, and they weren’t as safe in the rain as I wanted them to be at high speeds. But below 60 mph they were exceptional and refused to wear out. They handled off road conditions much better than they get credit for.

@jcarry5214 Жыл бұрын
I ran the g015 for a while on my nissan. They are very good tires, a lot tougher off road than they get credit for, but their truck type design always made them slightly whiny on the highway and made them hunt on grooved concrete a little more than anything else I've had. Long wearing for sure. I bought them used, ran for 20k and they're still in my basement in fantastic shape. Definitely not as great in rain as you'd think though, at least on my lighter vehicle. Good in the snow but not quite as good as falkens but better in every other condition. They probably would be better on a heavier rig like the rebel, really more of a FS tire than a suv, they are stiffer than the MT g003 we have on my wife's frontier. Oh they all flat spot a little overnight if that annoys you. not as bad as the MT but more than my mickeys for sure.

I just put these on my Denali 1 ton diesel… they look great, have a nice quiet and soft ride but are horrible for towing… beyond horrible, I would say dangerous. I’m returning them this week for Falcon Wildpeaks. I really wanted a new brand but I’m going back to a tire I know can handle the loads. I had a loaded trailer (14g lbs) going uphill around corners I felt like my trailer was ‘pushing’… this was because my load caused sidewall roll pushing the back out and shifting the front wheels in… my heart sopped few times, and it only got worse on the downhills. I wiggled my steering wheel and inch in either direction and the shimmy multiplied from the smallest correction…I don’t know if it’s the big outside lugs or a weaker sidewall. I pull consistent loads in my trailer on the same route hundreds of times and the Geolanders just can’t handle the load safely. If you’re just putting them on your truck or SUV without towing then I think they would be just fine… the big treads do pick up LOTS off stones though. If you have your family and are pulling a trailer… just don’t!

I was seriously considering this tyre for touring but I will probably go with something else due to the lack of information and long term reviews. It's been 1yr since this announcement and practically nothing more is known about the tyre. The Australian Yokahama web site is almost useless for tyre information and specifications. For me at least, this IS a huge factor in making a PURCHASING DECISION given there is no other information about their tyres in Australia. Why? If the manufacturer is not upfront with the specifications AND the warranty terms then how can anyone take them seriously when other companies do this? Perhaps this explains the lack of non sponsored reviews of this tyre 1 year later? I note that Yokahama appear to offer no cover from damage on their extreme durability tyre vs their other A/T tyres which I find "surprising" for a tyre that claims to be durable.
