In the book he shocks Tyrion by doing the opposite of this. "Even in the west we know of the bravery of the men from the mountains of the moon!" Or something like that. He dives straight into pushing their buttons to get them to fight for him. "Why would shagga fight for you when we don't have to?" "Have to? I said nothing of have to. I just thought you'd want some of the battle and glory." "Okay yeah shagga wants in!" By bringing in these men to follow him, Tyrion finally got a little respect in Tywin's eyes.

Still one of the best Tyrion and Tywin scenes. Tyrion gives respect and proper introductions to all his friends, even though Tywin and most other lords would look down on them. He doesn’t look down on people. But he then gives Tywin the biggest introduction to make it clear how great and powerful they are, which Tywin sits up straight for. Tywin gets what Tyrion is doing, making allies for their side while also showing who the major house is.

Hating Tyrion was Tywin's ultimate mistake. He had his worthy successor. Tyrion and Tywin are able to understand each other very quickly because they think in the same way, even if Tyrion is tempered in terms of cruelty. I always felt that the respect Tywin felt for Tyrion's actions is directly reflected in how angry and how full of distain his reaction was. He was mad that Tyrion made a useful alliance. He is not stupid enough to let this anger deprive him of valuable advantages, proven by the fact he used Tyrions companions in the field, but was still filled with disgust and contempt. With any other 'ally' Tywin would have kept his contempt to himself, used Tyrion's skills while thinking to himself how unworthy he was at the same time, but he couldn't do it with his own son. For all his logic and pragmatism, Tywin was the most emotional and vulnarable when it came to Tyrion. That, in itself, a feat no one else in Westeros could accomplish, showed Tyrions importance, worth and influence, even if he never realized it

No capable and strategic commander would have put the StormCrows and BurnedMen on the Vanguard. They are wild and reckless, bloodthirsty and undisciplined. Those first engagements and skirmishes, when Frontline meats front line is pretty crucial. From there it is a chess match of the commanders, moves and counter moves. They would have served better being deployed later, perhaps reinforcing a section that was faltering. Their fearlessness and savagery would have been inspiration to those with thoughts of egress. Tywin is usually much less obvious about his plans, trying to kill Tyrion so blatantly, and with military tactics that could hinder the overall battle, are out of character. But, who am I to say. I am literally on my couch eating a ham n cheese sammich!
@craven4bmore709
@craven4bmore709 Жыл бұрын
Though, you said it yourself, Tywin is fairly emotional, when it comes to Tyrion. Which could make him less sharp and rush to judgement...vulnerable, as you said. I agree with most all you stated, I just wanted to add to your point that Tyrion creates befuddlement and chaos in Tywin, as evident by him putting them in the vanguard. I can't remember if he did that in the book, actually. I know they were put in the battle, not sure about the main instigatory troops.

Tyrion was the child most like Tywin in cunning and intellect and Tywin hated that because he always saw Tyrion as his beloved wife's killer and a grotesque abomination. Yet Tyrion was probably the closest Tywin actually had to an heir (despite the fact that his three children were actually probably not his).

@@craven4bmore709 He does put them in the Vanguard in the books, it serves several purposes all at once, for Tywin never does anything without reason: Firstly: it allowed him in a way to pay honour to his son to outside observers, because despite Tyrions obvious reservations, in feudal armies the vanguard is a place of danger but also great honour and glory. Secondly, putting Tyrion with his wild men in the vanguard also came with the small risk Tyrion might die, which Tywin wouldn't view as a negative knowing how he hates his son and Jaime was not captured at this point so he still hoped for his first born to be his heir. Thirdly, whilst it could be risky to place the Hill Tribesmen in the vangaurd, they serve as the perfect meatshield to hold the Stark men in place, whilst armoured knights like Ser Addam Marbrand and Ser Gregor Clegane can mop up their flanks and envelop them. Tywin is always thinking 3-4 steps ahead.

Even though Bron only had one line, I feel like this scene really captures him as a character in a nut shell. He walks in and is faced with Tywin Lannister. The most intense man in the country. Bron is no simpleton like the other companions Tyrion introduced. He sees Tywin for exactly who he is. Bron knew one wrong word would get him killed. So what does he do? He keeps it short, sweet and to the point. One of the few traits Tywin values. He just says "You wouldn't know him." And leaves it at that. This really says a lot about Brons ability to read people.
