@@Mynamedjxndndb As much as I like this theory to be correct, I am afraid it's not, although evidence from future seasons have pointed otherwise. But still I believe if that was so then Tywin would never have let the dwarf live. He would've killed him there and then. Tywin is a person who stops at nothing..absolutely nothing to uphold his family name and saving it from getting tarnished. Tyrion is indeed Tywin's son. And if I am wrong then..Holy fucking Shit!!!

@@Mynamedjxndndb That wouldn't be possible if Tyrion was conceived in Casterly Rock instead of King's Landing. Besides the point, it wouldn't make any more narrative sense which is that Tyrion would have a claim on the throne despite not interested to the throne's inheritance and it would make a bigger mess of the inheritance since in the book there's already two heirs and many claimants to the throne. I doubt GRRM would write that since Tyrion has his own storyline to play and adding to a Targaryen bloodline on it is too much.

I think he hates acknowledging what he knows deep down: That Tyrion is his true heir. Tyrion embodies all of the Lannister family, not just the prestine image Tywin seeks to project. He embodies the extreme intellect, cunning, wit, judgement but also the whoring, pride, and facetiousness that has characterized the lannister family since Lann himself.

I think Tywin admits this painfully because he disliked Tyrion for his appearance yet he realised that Tyrion is very smart and capable. He thought that Tyrion was worthy of upholding his authority in King’s Landing because he was highly intelligent, and knew that upholding the family’s legacy by aiding the King would prove crucial to their family’s reputation and relationship with the Crown.

Upon hearing "Because you are my son," everyone, including Tryion thought or hoped it meant Tywin's fatherly love for Tyrion. However, after seeing how things ended, I think Tywin's statement rather meant that Tyrion's status as "Tywin's son" would give him the ability to control Jofferey and Cersei. Something no other Lannister could do.

"you're my son" as intended by Tywin clearly seems to be double-edged, he means it in the sense of Tyrion's status. Sending his son (as opposed to his brother or some other Lannister) means he carries the weight of Tywin himself. But he also is clearly manipulating Tyrion's emotions here also to suit his needs. As much as he chooses to wrongly overlook his children's personal desires, he understands how they function under normal circumstances better than I think is recognized. It's the times when they act outside of how he traditionally has seen that Tywin's understanding fails him in all three cases (after Jaime's capture and mutilation, after Joffrey's murder for Cersei, and after Tyrion is sentenced to death).

It is so sad that Tyrion realized that his father selected him because he had actually given up on Jaime's life. He saw that his father called him "Son" only as a tool to be used, and discarded Jaime cause he thought he was going to die. Then after Jaime is saved we see the 180 shift he has on Tyrion. Tyrion's conflicting emotions on his family gave so much depth, but we clearly see his definite emotions towards his brother Jaime and Jaime was the only that treated him with love and respect even when he was furious against Tyrion for killing their dad.

This scene is actually super tragic in retrospect. Tywin's back is to a wall, his feet are to the fire, and only now with no other option is he forced to utilize the intelligence and quality of his smartest, most loyal child. But once he has some breathing room, he goes back to hating on him, and tries to have him killed. And everything he claims to hate Tyrion for? The whoring, the lying, the arrogance? Tywin is guilty of the exact same thing, only WORSE because he is under the delusion that he isn't. And ultimately, that's why Tywin hates Tyrion. He isn't beautiful. The ugliness of his house can't be covered up with aesthetics and platitudes, and it reminds Tywin that the "nobility" of house Lannister is all a smoke-screen. Lann the Clever was an underhanded bastard, Jamie and Cersei aren't very smart (cunning and capricious, but not intelligent) and are guilty of some Borgia-level perversion, and Tywin ran his family's gold dry and whores with the SAME WHORE he berates Tyrion for loving.

I get the feeling that the men were starting to respect Tyrion as a frontline strategist and Tywin didn't want Tyrion to get more support from the other men so he sent him back to essentially babysit Joffrey while making it seem like he was giving Tyrion a gift in the form of a honorable position. Tyrion wanted so desperately for Tywin's gesture of temporarily making him Hand of the King to be a sign of love and respect that he didn't see it for what it actually was, just another way to get rid of Tyrion and have him out of the way.
@hubbellrowe9012
@hubbellrowe9012 Жыл бұрын
I am not so sure. There are a hundred ways he could have gotten rid of him. I think Tywin did this out of necessity and not love, but the hand of the king is no joke. It has real power, and Tywin needed his help. I think this is a great demonstration of trust and respect, even if it is not one of love.

One of the things I always hated about the show(later seasons)was the cutting of Genna Lannister, Jaimes aunt. Wed to one of Walder Freys sons(not even his heirs)by her gentle father Tytos just to make Frey happy, Tywin spoke against the match as a boy of five. She talks about some parts of Tywin we never got to see, like how he smiled when he killed the last Tarbecks, when he wed Joanna and when his twins were born. One of her best lines is how she tells Jaime that Tyrion is Tywins son, the one most like him, as Jaime is more like his uncle's and his mother(as he has true empathy and kindness). Apparently, when she said the same to Tywin, he refused to speak to him for half a year. All would have been around the taking of Riverrun and would have been better than the Dornish roadtrip and the crappy short story we got with Blackfish being killed(he escaped in the book by swimming upriver).

The sad thing is that Tyrion was literally Tywin's only child that could rule competently, but his own personal ego and hatred for Tyrion wouldn't allow him to teach Tyrion properly or raise him to full potential. If you think how much time Tywin in vain poured into teaching by Jamie or Cercsei he could have poured in equal time to Tyrion, Tyrion would have been one of the greatest leaders in history. Plus would have made the Lannisters probably unstoppable. But at the end he would only turned to Tyrion when his back was up against the wall because he always knew no matter how badly he treated Tyrion, Tyrion would always be loyal and was actually competent.

This was the closest moment that I actually see Tywin feared losing the war with Jaime losing half of his army & he himself being taken hostage. @TrackerRoo

Robb's mistake was not brokering a deal with the Martels, Tyrells and Baratheons. King of the North shouldn't have been about one kingdom breaking free. But all breaking free. No one liked the Lannisters and no one liked being tethered to King's Landing. Give everyone what they want by going back to seven kingdoms. Stannis can have King's Landing, Casterly Rock could go to Renly. And the Martels would have their revenge on the House that killed members of their family. Robb was great at military tactics. But he was not a good politician.

"You are my son". That is such a clever red herring. To the casual onlooker, it appears as if Tywin wants to say that he cares for Tyrion with those words. However, seasoned veterans of the show know better. Tywin hates Tyrion with every fiber of his being and would wish for nothing else than for him to never even having been born, but BECAUSE he is a Lannister and more to the point, his own son, Tywin wants to put him in places of power because in the end, what's good for Tyrion is good for the Lannister family. That's the thing, Tywin cares about nothing else but his family, it's hammered into us all throughout the show "the name, the family, his children", but the issue is that while he seeks to better them, he doesn't have genuine affection for any of them. He is the uncaring father who wants his children to succeed without necessarily loving any of them. And most certainly not Tyrion. So, the "you are my son" is not any kind of declaration of affection, it is a simple, matter-of-fact statement.

Cunning Tywin - He bought Tyrion’s obedience and loyalty with just 4 words! He knew Tyrion’s obsession for his father’s approval and he used it! Best example of how a mere factual statement used at the right time for a right listener in the right context can weigh more than a universe between the time it was said and heard! As we know later, Tyrion was ready to fight and sacrifice himself for the people who never gave a damn about him or saw him worth anything more than a stunted fool, these 4 words being the reason! GRRM is a legend as are these two characters!!

I guess what many don't see is that, despite his arrogance, Tywin isn't an idiot. And all around this table do nothing but aim to please him to not get his wrath at them. Tyrion on the other hand already has his anger, so Tyrion is not holding back on what he says. He's not afraid to speak up opposing opinions or more precisely the truth of the situation. And that's why Tywin chose him. Not because he is his son, not because he is the best suited for this. But because despite everything, Tyrion is at this point not afraid to stand his ground, he has proven to be inventive, when he showed up with the hill tribes and he has shown that despite everything he *is* loyal to the House. Tywin never send Tyrion to Kingslanding to act as Hand, but to clear the ground. To remove every Lord that my try to undermine the Lannisters claim. And that is what Tyrion does, he removes every threat towards him as soon as he gets into the city and literally builds up the claim his House has on the city. Tywin is not a loving father suddenly, he's a strategist and he is using a tool. Because, let's be honest. of all his children even then, it'd be Tyrion who'd be the most dangerous knife at his back. In more than one way.

It's such a brutal dichotomy. Tywin is his father. Tywin respects and admires Tyrion for his wit and wisdom, something very very few people in that world can lay claim to and rivals his own. He also respects and admires Tyrion's unwavering resolve to survive and thrive in a world that hates him just because he's small. And you would think that, being his father and that he admires and respects him that he thus loves and is proud of him too right? Wrong, he's utterly ashamed of him, wishes he'd never been born, and resents him for the death of his wife.
