If Lively becomes a defensive anchor like Chandler, Mavs would have a bright future.

Love TCs honest and accurate analysis on D. Live. I didn't like his screen setting during Summer League. He wasn't standing firm and kept slipping away from the pick before the pg had a chance to actually use the pick. His rotations were delayed, he was baited by pump fakes by leaving his feet early instead of staying on the ground and just having his hands up, and just overall looked like he needs more work on a lot of intangibles. Chandler's evaluation confirmed exactly what I witnessed. "Just everything." I'm so glad the OG is there for him as a personal coach. He's gonna help Holmes as well which has me so pumped!!!

I can hardly imagine what a screwup it was for Cuban not to sign TC for additional years following the championship year,it would have saved so much heartache.

@@silewis9396 - You're wrong. Tyson was offered a contract. He left for more money. He eventually returned because NYC sucked.

People are overstating how good of a match Lively is for the Mavericks. It's a great match for the Mavs... but not a great match for him. There are some teams that Lively could be a day 1 starter. Right now, it would most likely be Powell starting over him, and for those of you who have been paying attention, Powell could continue starting all year DESPITE having "better" options at center. Remember the Powell vs Kleber moment we had a couple years ago? Powell won. Why did he win? Because Kleber is better able to use his gifts on the bench. Dwight Powell is HIGHLY offensively compatible with Luka, especially in the pick-and-roll. So why would Lively be benched instead of starting over Powell? Well... Lively's best asset is his rebounding. You know who our second-best rebounder is? Luka. Luka also needs floor spacers to keep their defenders out of Luka's paint when he's on the floor. He needs them to keep their defenders honest. Dwight Powell gets around this by being the pick-and-roll guy, and DP is ELITE as a rim roller in the Pick-and-Roll. So Lively has to contend with THAT on the offensive end... and on the glass, he's going to get more rebounds WITHOUT Luka on the floor. Right there, you've got 2 reasons that he will have trouble getting into the starting lineup... but... he DOES offer the most important thing he needs. He offers a bolstered frontcourt defense. Some people think that will be enough, but when you're a rookie, it's not enough to be marginally better than the vets. You have to 1-up the vets SO HARD that the vets aren't even mad that you stole their spot. It's going to be hard for Lively to displace the vets who want the starting center gig. And all this that I covered... that is all *IF* we don't make any more moves. It's going to be tough to break into a starting role IF the roster remains the same, but what if we DO make a trade for a Capella or an Ayton (God Help me, please no Ayton. I like Ayton, but his fit on this team would be trash.) If we go and get a top 15 center, it's going to be even harder to crack the starting lineup... and it's not like Lively has any positional versatility. He will play only center minutes. And right here is the worst part if you are Lively... the things that you would need to develop to get paid the big bucks... are exactly the things you will NOT be doing with the Mavs. The Mavs are going to TRY to get him shooting 3's... but they probably ain't going to make the kind of progress that will allow him to take them in-game... at least, not for a few years. He's going to be the last 3pt option on the floor at all times for any conceivable lineup, starting AND bench. We've got Luka, Kyrie, SETH CURRY, Grant Williams, Timmy, Hardy, Holmes, Green, Kleber, Exum... We've got 5-out talent up the wazoo, and good play creators. There is no shot open enough that he would get the green light. You'd rather see a contested 3 from Luka, Kyrie, Seth, Timmy, Hardy, etc... before you'd let Lively take an open 3. So the one thing Lively can do to advance his career... is the absolute last priority for the Mavs, and he's not likely to even see starting minutes. Yes, the Mavs will be super happy with him, but he's not going to get the chance to wow anyone. He's not going to be super high on the ROY boards. He's going to have a very productive time with the Mavs... but very little glory.

To win a championship I don’t think you need a team full of wow players …I honestly think you need like 2 or 3 and a lot of role players that know their role to a tee

@@Lyrunfromda214 I agree. All I'm saying is... there are draft picks that are a great pick for the franchise AND for the draftee (Wembanyama and the Spurs), there are draft picks that are not good for the draftee OR for the franchise (Lonzo ball). But there are other draft picks that are better for one side than they are for the other. In this case, the Mavericks LOVE this pick... but I bet Lively would rather have been drafted by a team that can give him more freedom, particularly on offense.

@@runthenumbers9698Why would D Live want to be on another team when so many experts said he reminded them of a young Tyson Chandler before we even selected him. Then he actually goes to the team that has TC on the development staff. 🤷🏾‍♂️ We've heard all summer that Live has been picking his brain and asking so many questions that he thinks Tyson is probably getting tired of him. TC though actually loves that about the kid. If he went to a team that would start him day one that would be a team with a losing culture. Chandler is showing him things that took him years to learn. Advanced training at 19 y.o.!!! He's glad to be in Dallas. He's so young, raw, and thin that he needs to be brought on gradually. He ain't ready to start for no team tbh! The average player don't really get it until their 3rd season. I'm thinking like Josh Green who didn't even get playing time by Carlisle his rookie year. Look for JG to go to an even higher level this season, Hardy too. My words will be repeated by analysts outside of the organization throughout the season. Bet dat!!!
