Wlad Klitschko had two fights which cemented his status as lineal champion, Chagaev in 2009 and Povetkin in 2013. In both fights, Wlad was Nr. 1 in the world and Chagaev/Pulev Nr. 2, so it was Nr. 1 vs Nr. 2, and both times Wlad won. So Fury is the lineal Champ. Lineal has nothing to do with belts or being undisputed.

Heavyweight boxing is dead. The best aren't fighting the best, mandatory fights aren't really a thing anymore and you have champions more interested in hyping cross-sport freak-show fights than actually getting in a ring and delivering for the fans. Money and an imbalance of power in favor of the fighters has crippled any desire for risky fights to be made. In Fury’s defence, there’s nothing he can do about Lenox’s decision to retire as champion or Marciano retiring undefeated. The man can only beat the man that’s there to be beaten so in terms of the “lineage” of heavyweight champions he is the current reigning champion in that line. It can be argued that retiring undefeated or retiring as a champion counts as a defeat due to forfeiture instead of taking on the next dangerous challenger who then went on to win the championship. Regardless, he needs to lace up the gloves against Usyk or it all means nothing 🙄

I understand what you are saying, but it feels more like semantics than HW boxing history. While he has been unified, he hasn’t been undisputed and that is the thing that matters most. As much as i agree with the point of this i have to point out Michael Spobks was the champion, because he best the man, the man was Larry Holmes, WBC wound up in Tysons hands because Larry Holmes dumped it in favour of the IBF. So that meant WBC went to a few other guys (Wetherspoon, Thomas and Berbick) before Tyson got it. Do despite Larry dropping WBC, he was seen as the champion still particularly as he'd beaten Wetherspoon and Berbick, untill he was beaten by Michael Spinks.
