you cook a steak well done w no crust & invite us to a cooking channel? As cool as the pan is (and it came out well), it's can't cook a steak perfectly. Either sous vide it or reverse sear ... using LOW TEMPERATURE (for middle). And then use a TORCH that's 4,500° MAP gas to put the crust on it buddy. 🙂

As soon as I saw that logo, I said "This is not from 1891." A quick Internet search shows that that branding was on a pan made by the Wager company in 1991, to commemorate the centennial of the founding of the Wagner Cast Iron company. Still, after this restoration, I don't doubt someone will still be able to use it when it IS 130 years old.
@satysfakor3 жыл бұрын
Exactly - I have 2 similliar pans - without ribs on cooking area - plain flat - perfect for eggs on bacon - these were bought in early 1990s - still using them after almost 30 years. BTW - I was really sad to find out that Wagner is out of business.

That frying pan is nice but, it wasn't made in 1891. Country of Origin wasn't required until after 1960. This is a reproduction made around the 1990's. Nice pan none-the-less. An 1890's pan would also have a "gate mark" on the cast iron, which were common until the early 20th century.
@Leon-wz1js3 жыл бұрын
I don't contest your facts, with exception to the country of origin statement. While that may be true that it wasn't "required" that doesn't mean nobody posted a country of origin prior to 1960. I have a pannocake pan from 1941 with country of origin inscribed (also year of manufacture). For that matter, I also have a Day grandfather clock from circa 1560, with country of origin posted. Hiya, quick FYI, any cast iron pan with the mark "Made in USA" on the back usually means it was made after 1960 which was when American manufacturers were required to clearly mark the country of origin. Awesome vid and channel!
@_paulluevano3 жыл бұрын
Nice observation. It is true, this pan was made in 1991 celebrating the company’s 100 year mark. It was discontinued in 1999.

LIfe Pro Tip: "Non Stick" pans are trying to replicate this natural polymerization process that you get with seasoning your cast iron pan. Non stick pan coating literally tries to create this same effect.

I’‘ve bought two iron pots at flea markets, and got them clean from years of old grease. And I found a pot that had been used as a planter, about to be thrown away. Rusty, but steel pan cleaner (that spiral thingy), oven cleaner, steel wool, scoring powder and a vat of elbow grease got it clean. After re-oiling and curing, it’s good as new. Iron never goes out of style! :D
