Subscribe for weekly content 😀,
I found this Vintage Scale at flea market, it cost me 10€ , a very good price i think , the woman who sold me this beautiful scale explained to me that her parents bought in 1920 to sell food to the market every day until they died...
This is a very durable scale and after this restoration will survive for another 100 years.
I don't know if you seen my other scale restoration, if not pleas watch and tell me what you think and which restoration do you prefer, so i decided with this restoration to not make any paint because many of you requested this, for protection of the metal i have utilized a special produc an inhibator for rust , this produc is a thick oil which become very hard after 24 hours and don't let air and water touch the metal;
I replaced all the screws because they were very rusty.
Index of operation and materials:
( 01 : 14 ) disassembly
( 05 : 13 ) remooving rust with electrolisys
( 05 : 56 ) cleaning the plates
( 06 : 39 ) buffing the plates
( 08 : 36 ) polishing the plates
( 08 : 13 ) brushing the rust after electrolisys
( 09:58 ) buffing all the metal parts
( 11 : 09 ) fixing all the screws
( 12 : 05 ) cleaning all the parts with whitespirit
( 12 : 25 ) appling the Rustol owatrol antirust incolore
( 13 : 56 ) start asesembli the parts

I just thought about the fact that the weights will no longer be accurate as some of the steel had turned to rust

If you really think about the fact that the video is sped up, this man is spending several hours in pure silence reviving this scale. It’s just him and the sound of his tools

Hello, Your videos are excellent for me, you say you are not professional but for me you are, since your high quality of restorations says so. PS: you cannot select the minutes of the video because they have a space in the middle. Thanks for reading ... 👌🏻

I consider the time spent in my workshop to be golden. No voices to distract me or worry me with their chattering and no music going one to induce me into making what could be a very costly mistake. Besides that, I can solve things and possibly come up with new methods of accomplishing something without all that extraneous noise to claim part or all of my concentration.

nice to see all that patina, not just a sandblasted and painted surface (not that there is anything wrong with that). also i love polished bronze. everyoneloves the patina on bronze, i find it annoying. that brownish tinge is so neat, esp. since i have not seen it that often. i created a gallery of bronze images on wikimedia commons to show off its lustre, etc. but, you never tested it. what if you had altered its physical structure such that the weights balance each other, but dont react to any other objects? it could happen. put a dead chicken on it and it doesnt weigh anything. gravity is a social construct anyway, a tool of patriarchy.

The restoration looks great. Might I suggest for the next restoration, instead of taking a steel hammer and steel anvil, try an oak block and a hard rubber mallet or nylon/plastic hammer to the thin brass pieces. Hammering brass between steel thins and stretches the brass where a wood block and the hard rubber, plastic or nylon hammers won't.

Yes-Yes-Yes.... You kept all the original character possible and still made the piece functionally perfect. You even replaced the ruined bolts with period correct straight slotted bolts. The original tool maker of a 100 years ago would be proud of you.

Congratulations, you did a fantastic job. But I think you forgot a little detail. After so much cleaning and polishing of, certainty that the weights also needed to be calibrated.

Very good work! That oil you're using for the steel parts is amazing, they got a very old touch with it! Btw I fell in love with your tiny anvil and hammer <3

So glad you didn't use any paint. This would have taken away all it's originality and patina. Some things are better

Remove the oil and paint from all piviots and brearing. To much friction, dry works better and that is how it was intended.

This is a much better restoration than your previous scales; you managed to fix any faults while keeping the patina of decades of use and preserving it for the future. Very well done!
