30 years ago, I served at Ft Belvoir. It hasn't changed like the rest of America. We are good enough to fight and die in the military, but not good enough to eat, or exist in the same places. I applaud the Veteran who stood up for these soldiers. I wish we were all more like him. Some friends and I were jumped because they didn't like us being in "their" bar, but that didn't work out well for them.

We stopped at a SC restaurant, made our order, when the waitress returned, bent to my ear, and whispered, “ The owner wants to know if that man is, “..a Negro?” Now, “Smitty,” as we knew him, had a slight wave on the very little hair Marines were allowed at that phase in our training. So, in a normal voice I said, “ Who? Smitty? No, Smitty isn’t a Negro, he’s “EYE-tal-yon!” (Italian). Waitress smiled, walked back to the bar. A minute later a man yells, “ I Italian my ass! He’s black as the ace of spades!” We were then told that “Negroes” couldn’t eat there, but we refused to leave. The equivalent of Barney Fife, showed up to arrest us, but the owner demurred when we explained we’d be back with 50 more Marines the following weekend, and fifty more after that. Being a kid from the Northeast, I’d never seen racism in such stark terms. Fk the GOP for allowing it to fester under its physically & morally-forfeit “leaders.”

@@bluesdoggg I'm not talking about just people in the military. Everytime you hear stories like these, black people are always "commended" on keeping their composure. Like we can't show any type of anger. We're tired of being the targets of white peoples racism

I believe I understand what this crazy woman was trying to do. She out down money offering to pay the soldiers for their meal, then, when the soldiers take the offered money, she would then scream "thief" and make a scene about how black people will always steal regardless if they're in uniform or not. Absolutely disgusting behavior and I pray that she gets filed for harassment charges.
