Still rather amazed by how hidden the incident was. The U-91 literally disappeared into the rooster tails and didn’t reappear until the U-40 was virtually on top of him.

Dustin was tight on the outer buoy as he was supposed to be. That rudder upside down and in air could have been deadly. You lose Valuable points if you DQ from not following course rules. It is hard to find volunteers to sit in the DMZ zones where rescue and flags are in a “safe” zone. Rescue won’t move until Race director says go ( I assume when they know boats have shut down per Red flag rule.) They shoot a flare at you if you don’t. I don’t like white for a predominant color on my hydros…… Blending into rooster tail is possibly a help at close starts on camera but from my rescue friends / Drivers view it can be like camouflage. You also don’t drive around things in a flying hydro , you basically brace for that dreaded impact. Turn right and you flip. Weird how there was nothing shown during livestream, no replays , just the usual after the fact results when the crickets are only ones still around. Wondering if Drone footage will be shown.

I had read the U-91 rudder was lost. I believe we know where.

I think I would have idled back quickly to the pits in case that rudder ripped a hole in the hull.

Once the red flag goes up, everyone has to come to a dead stop as soon as possible. If it sinks, it sinks.

Maybe a strobe light on the underside that is automatically set off when upside down. Even if it buys a second that could be enough to avoid this.

That was my thought too. The white bottom of the 91 was too hard to see amidst the mist and the white caps on the water.

That was so close to being bad looks like it was the right call to cancel the race afterwards hopefully the U-91 is back on the water soon

Race was cancelled due to a severe thunderstorm that rolled through just after the accident. Otherwise, the final would have been restarted.

@@sandysmith1881 Nope. Mike Hansen said they don't have the certified rudder bracket parts they need to get it fixed in time. Will be ready for Tri-Cities.

Any lane I believe, as long as he is trailing.

They can pick whichever lane. However if you'll notice, the driver picked the spot with "clean" water. That allows for maximum effectiveness, if running in wake water, the prop has less bite and slower speed.

white cap rollers to the left of the u91 hard to distinguish boat and wave, hat off to the u40 , could have been worse. BILL MUNCIE 1957 and the coast guard boat... I WAS 8

Everyone is an expert even before reading the rule book... Red Flag "Drivers shall receive radio notification by way of the Corral and shall immediately stop their Boats on the racecourse until directed otherwise by Race Officials. " FWIW.. a boat on its lid and driver status unknown = "Red flag" Driver vs boat is not a contest.. driver loses every time...
