as well as making M4 Tank Simulator which was on PC and Mac, Deadly Games had two sub sims, U-Boat and U-Boat 2: Drumbeat.
This is a recording of gameplay of U-Boat. I played this in windows 10 using the Sheepshaver macintosh emulator. I had tried Basilisk previously but it was too slow. Sheepshaver for windows runs much better.
I didnt have the chart details on hand to know exactly where in each sector i had to go to, and unfortunately i spend a while, just missing cargo ships. This is probably not unlike the real situation for U-Boats in WW2, trying to actually be in the right place at the right time takes skill. Also I was playing this with the sound down low, and didnt realise that some of the voice messages were communicating vital information such as you will see at the end when i falsely assumed i had sunk the allied vessel only to find myself destroyed when i surfaced. The voice from the sound room notified me of propellor sounds which i missed hearing.
I think one would need to learn to use the targeting system to ensure a hit, its not enought to just have the target in your sights. This is great actually, and I think despite the simpler overall look of sim, it clearly requires skill to master
