he was so humorous because he was so spot on in the face of our most prized institutions... one's addictive illusions melt in his presence if you are ready... his words have a powerful grounding effect on me as the "stranglehold" of mind over the body subsides

If U.G. was as dismal in appearance as i am would he'd have gotten an audience? He was a rich guy with his own story and an articulate vocal presentation. For funny, I can go to the Marx Brothers; Charlie Chaplin; Danny Kaye. In listening to him, i reveal my desperation. I who am 'stuck' and drowning am funny and irradicable. Hurrah for the intractable drama.

I find similarities between UG and Thomas Hobbes (natural state), Baruch Spinoza (psychophysical parallelism, one substance), Baron d’Holbach (reason over religion, spirituality is an absurdity, God is irrelevant for finite beings, people want and need to fear), Max Stirner (egoism is natural, anarchism), Hermann von Helmholtz (no non-physical vital force), Mark Twain (man is a machine controlled by outside forces), Annie Besant (theosophy, sharp intellect), Henry Louis Mencken (no filter, no fear), Charles Bukowski (no love, culture vs. individual), Bernadette Roberts (no self), George Carlin (humanity is doomed, enjoy the ride), Tyler Durden (self-improvement is masturbation), Robert Saltzman (surrender), Robert Sapolsky (no free will) and Donald Duck (no path, no goal).

UG is so funny. I love him, too. I would love to see a video of him and Jiddu talking to each other.
@nickilovesdogs81378 жыл бұрын
***** No they have had incredibly long private conversations for years. Jiddu was his mentor. But he cut himself off from Jiddu's friendship because he was angry that Jiddu had such a large following. He kept asking him how to become enlightened and Jiddu knew that just by asking him that question over and over again that UG had not understood anything that he said. At least not the elemental message that living is about giving and being a good mother and steward for all life. It is not about enlightenment. Wanting enlightenment is self aggrandization which is Ego which is self which is image making.

***** UG did his best. He really was open for growing and learning. But he wanted this growing for the wrong reasons. Does this make sense to you? He wanted to have power. That is still a state of mind that has nothing to do with true awareness and compassion. It is the opposite of that. That is why he was so resistant to Jiddu towards the end of their relationship. He wanted to elicit power info and Jiddu saw that. So UG had this never ending grudge against him because he knew that Jiddu saw him the way he is. But UG did grow as much as he could anyway even with the obstacle of wanting power. I don't even think that he himself was aware of this need for power. When the soul is not ready for advanced states of a physical mind then nothing in the world can drive that mind to the higher states. It would not matter what he learned it would render itself back again and again towards the initial level. You see the mind plays it's tricks on people. They think they got it now but wait a minute and look closer and you see that whatever religion or belief or meditation practice they do, nothing will move them farther than they can manage in any given lifetime. You can't skip steps. So let us gradually learn and be ok with one's own limitations. Just continue to grow.

***** You are using insults. I was very kind to you. I just am trying to bring awareness to self image creation. Introspect. Don't use UG as a football team or flag. You are not a UG follower. You are You.

How great UG was. 99.99 % people don't understand UG. This world is full of religious people. It is shameful and offence for me to say the word religious. If we want to safe the mankind from disaster let us exile all religious persons.

Not just religious thinking, but any dogmatic form of thinking too. But I’m very very skeptic to believe that mankind will change. We are ignorant and some people are aware of themselves being ignorant but they still stay ignorant.

The biggest ego trip is trying to get rid of your ego, because it didnt exist in the first place, therefore by trying to get rid of it you are just strengthening the illusion of it :)
@marcpelletier13667 жыл бұрын
Ryan Collins how would one know they were free of ego?
@forgivemeifidontshakehands90917 жыл бұрын
Marc Pelletier as u.g says you are free from ego when the demand to be free from ego stops, i think u.g is slightly over inflammatory in his opposition to ego though, as there is nothing wrong with ego, it exists on one level which is the level of personal identity and separation from every thing, but theres another level where you view the whole world as one solitary movement and all manifestations of life are interlinked, and when you really get with this idea the ego starts to fall away on the level of personal identity. but as alan watts says, maybe this is just a transposition of the ego to a higher level, u.g clearly had an ego, but maybe if he didnt believe it then it didnt exist, sorry if this is a poor explanation but we are dealing with a mythical abstraction here haha :)
@marcpelletier13667 жыл бұрын
forgive me if i dont shake hands ego is conditioning which is memory, one can never be free but it is no longer "master of the house" (:
@forgivemeifidontshakehands90917 жыл бұрын
Marc Pelletier of course its conditioning on the level of idea, but something only exists in the mind if you decide it exists, the moment you decide it exists you create something you need to get rid of, if you drop the idea of being sure that anything exists without your interpretation you will enter the natural state as ug calls it, or radical skepticism which is a paradox in itself ha :)

It is really naive to “think” that there is a “you” who are “doing” thoughts in a brain which is the most complex “thing” in the universe. Of course thinker and thoughts are one which “you” absolutely can not control. The problem arises when you “think” “you” “can”.

Why does he say that one can't think at all...yes i can realise he says it in context of previous knowledge and conditioning brain uses in thinking but still many scientists think, invent, discover new things that can only come by thinking...i agree they deduce it most from the previous knowledge but still some part of that is their new thinking that they were not conditioned of, that they never heard, never experienced before.. isn't it? Can someone explain
