Here's a valuable labor-saving aluminum shaping tip from a panel beater of 55 years. You need to take the temper out of it. Use a RED sharpie and scribble all over the area you want to work. (Don't go nuts, lines a half-inch apart are fine). With a soft flame, a propane torch is perfect, heat the scribbled area until the marks are gone. Go easy with this step unless you're good at putting that pile of melted aluminum on the floor back where it came from. Let it come gradually to room temperature. You'll be able to work the metal like Velveeta cheese. When you have the shape you like, heat it again (no sharpie, just heat it up) and give it a cold water quench. One last tip, NEVER use steel tools on aluminum, (causes work hardening and cross-contamination). You probably have a plastic hammer/mallet somewhere, use that instead. Naturally, the wooden spud you made was ideal. Carry on. Remember this, aluminum is harder than steel, a golf ball-sized dent in aluminum would be a basketball-sized dent in steel bodies.
@timothymilam732
@timothymilam732 2 жыл бұрын
Don't forget the old wood mallet, are the rolled leather mallets. And for radius corners, nuthin like old modified aluminum ball bat as dolly. Dry ice will draw it up after you massage it with the heat too. As far your rear wheel wells, why not make what you have into a set of wheel skirts, and frame it with aluminum angle or tubing with dzus clips to hold them on the body. It ain't rocket science, but aluminum takes soft taps so you don't work harden the metal. What I'm confused about, is why he's using steel on the wall frame, and not aluminum. They do still make rods for stick welding, and spools of aluminum wire for mig, and there's always a spool gun. Save weight money time, whole lot easier to work with, and structurally support anything he's got there. It is just a 61 horsepower 4 banger, and it's already fighting a wind drag of a barn door. But it's his bride of Frankenstein NP1 sealer for those joints instead of silicone

@@ryanm4319 With the Ford bodies, I just torch burn the paint off, which takes the temper out too, wire brush it and go to work. But the red (only) sharpie burns off right at 650 degrees, which is perfect. A lot of guys use a smoky torch to cover the area with soot and then burn that off, my way is easier for me, and I don't have a room full of 'Armenian Paratroopers' floating around. (anybody that has held a lit sooty torch without oxygen running knows what I'm talking about)

Ive basically been starving. Well you, VGG, and Mortske, have inspired me to get off of my depressed ass, and go for it. But anyway to my point an artist is only as good as his or her tools. And young men. You 3 men, possess extremely talented, craftsman orientated tools, as well as toolboxes. My biggest point for all3 of you, is don't keep staying I'm not this or I'm not that. You must know young men. You are what you DO! Every artist has their own style. The reason it's called your "OWN" style, well that's because you "OWN" that. So that makes you pmaater,of wing it and ding it!!! Look for my introduction video on April fools day. Broken back unlimited.

Yup, do the whole cab like that. Nice to see Hot Rod for a second.Thanks for sharing, I get your frustration. A few decades ago, I had 3 little kids, 2 jobs, and a business I was starting up. My first and only wife asked me if I had somebody else, because I was so tired all the time! I said "When? I have no time!" That's it, I'm buying a Puddin project shirt now.😊

This is my favorite channel puddin and on top of that, I wish everyone had hour long videos. You get so much done. Thanks for the laughs and I'm glad you didn't shit your bibs lol. I love the fender color and patina. Patiner the whole truck except for the box and show us how you did it a little more in detail. I love it.

Only Puddin could catch a level on fire! I don't even understand how that happened! Keep on keepin on, bud. I admire your work ethic, you pop out a brand new video every Monday without fail. And did you notice, you are just about to hit the big 150,000!! It was just a little bit ago you hit 100,000 and I was here when you hit 50,000.

The people who don't do shit may think your box does not measure up...but I am here to tell you I think it is a super job. It is sealed on top has a floor on the bottom and is super functional. GREAT JOB!

Possible option for your rear wheel conundrum.... Change the wheel studs out for wheel bolts. that way, when you remove the bolts you have 2-3" extra room to manoeuvre the wheel out that you wouldn't have with the studs. Please continue Sir! Excellent work. P.

I have a 1955 international 110. State of KY farm truck. 58,000 miles. All original. In my yard for 18 years. Ran good when I scooted her into place. Been years. Gonna follow your pattern for revival. Good ole truck. Love the travel all and pickup.

Absolutely paint the whole truck like that! You have the most entertaining and educational channel on You Tube. Yes, I said educational. I am just learning to fabricate, and you have a way of explaining things so that this old Kansas boy can understand it. I love your videos, and keep up the great content brother.
