Cool little camper. I am surprised U-Haul doesn't make or rent those, with the RV market so hot right now. The fiberglass shells mean that leaks, for the most part are mitigated, and if water gets inside, there isn't structural rot to worry about. I don't know how you fit four people in that, but if it works, that is the important thing. I sort of wish they sold those. I'd buy one as an "annex" for my campervan, where when I was at a renaissance faire (I usually camp 30+ nights a year at one), so if I have a guest over, they have a "guest bedroom" with a slide-out toilet as well. When not in use, it would provide usable storage for armor, costuming, etc.

We love it. Uhaul streamlined their business in the early 90s and sold off the fleet. They come up for sale on Craigslist and Facebook periodically. There are some other manufacturers of small molded fiberglass campers too. Check here for more information: uhaulcamperfun.blogspot.com/p/find-your-own-fiberglass-camper.html

We don't have AC yet, I hope to install one in the front cubby near the door under the lower bunk but will have to cut port holes for venting.
@leem200 Жыл бұрын
@@UhaulCamperFun Yes we have several options. There is a middle to the back window on ours, So, thinking of installing it with a wood buildout box so it screws together, and a support behind the wheel holder. Our book original book says to install on back side by door window. Also, thought about the lower bunk area too. I do not want to put holes in the trailer though and it would have to be if we put it there. If I put it in back window it will work without adding fans, or holes. I would still have two side areas on same window. We have no choice but to get ac, we do southern states allot. Live in Florida. My husband will build the box and I would paint it white to match camper since we have to do fiberglass repair and paint her anyway. So would fiberglass it to match. Then it would not be permanent, and I'd keep the middle section so if someone else gets it they have the option. Or if we camp in fall or winter, we just remove the ac and put plexiglass back. If you put it under side compartment it you will have to put drain in, and fans, two holes at least in her side or bottom floor. Ac will not work efficiently keeping her cool.
@UhaulCamperFun Жыл бұрын
Yep I've been looking at building a drain pan to drain through floor and custom build fan/porthole to pull in air from side and vent out through the floor. Also thought about designing a ducted mini split option where I would put internal handler in the cubby under bunk next to the stove area. And have a vent from that compartment and another run under the counter to the rear area. But haven't been able to find something small enough and affordable.

Kaitlin, So I know the sheets were Eddie Bauer and I found them here: (amzn.to/3vaiz9b). The mountain and camper pillows and curtains my wife made. No pattern sorry, she just made them up as she went. She did start with a shower curtain she liked and cut it up and resewed it for the curtains. (The Owl pillow she bought somewhere like 10 yrs ago.) Mostly she just looks at places like Marshalls or TJ Max Home Goods to find stuff that tends to match the colors we are going for. Before I redid it to grey, we had a brown theme (which is where the Owl pillow came from).

Thanks and congrats on your new purchase! I'd suggest you join the Uhaul Camper Facebook Group (facebook.com/groups/UHaulCamper) There is a lot of great folks and good info that's been accumulated here for years. I've been a part of the group since it started almost 10 yrs ago. Lots of good resources on sourcing parts and ideas for things to update/change. There is a gentleman in that group that can do the decals. He has made them for many folks; just ask when you join the group and someone will point you to him. He can do the original, which are orange, or do custom like he did for us. Our color scheme was grey/silver, so we opted to go with that for the decals. We also opted to use our name for our camper on the sides instead of it saying U-haul like the original look.

Just a question. What's the weight of this camper and how big of a vehicle would you need to pull it?
@UhaulCamperFun2 жыл бұрын
About 1200lbs dry weight. Most v6 can tow it. You should check your manufacturer's towing limits. There are some folks who tow these with a 4cyl but I like the extra power of a v6 in the mountains.

@UhaulCamperFun2 жыл бұрын
UHAUL sold the fleet off in the early 90s so they are all privately owned now and do come up for sale occasionally. However, they weigh about 1200lbs dry which is over the cruze towing capacity before you even add camp gear. So you may have to settle for a teardrop or a small pop-up.

Where did you get the cabinet liner? Is it possible to buy ? Thank you
@UhaulCamperFun4 жыл бұрын
They are original to the campers. Best thing to do if you don't have them is to either finish the fiberglass on the inside. Also you could use wood to finish the cabinets inside similar to the way I did the closet.

Is it a modified Scamp?
@UhaulCamperFun2 жыл бұрын
No. Both are molded fiberglass campers, but the Uhaul was custom built from a different mold. It's actually closer to a Burro camper, and after they stopped making the molds ended up being used by a company to make Companion campers. Uhauls have a vertical seam (Scamps is horizontal) and also have a finished fiberglass inner shell (most other molded fiberglass campers do not have that).thats just a few of the differences.

It looks similar to a scamp where they made by scamp and just rebrand it
@UhaulCamperFun3 жыл бұрын
No. They were made specifically for Uhaul. They are actually closer to a Burro with a vertical seam vs a scamp, casita, or boler that has a horizontal seam. Also they are double hulled, have a separate inner shell, which is one of the few things that make them different from a Burro.

@@UhaulCamperFun and I don't see any air conditioning unit so I take it you would be sweating out the summer if you were going on a camping trip
@UhaulCamperFun3 жыл бұрын
So ours does not have an AC. we have a Fantastic Fan in the roof and I have a tall cylinder fan that doesn't take up much room I can sit on the floor in the corner. But it's not ideal in the middle of July/Aug. We don't camp much then or else we go further north. I'm looking at adding a window AC unit into the cubby under the front bunk by the door and having it drain/vent to the outside. Some have added rooftop AC, but due to the vertical seam, you need to add some support. Scamps and others I see typically have a metal vertical brace on the edge of the counter to the roof for that purpose, but the U-hauls don't.
@brettduffy19923 жыл бұрын

But hopefully, I'll eventually get an AC installed. Several other folks have done the install I'm looking at.
