Nice video - much appreciated. I'm going to do a 2000 Jeep Wrangler - inside and out. Couple questions I have are: 1- I have some rust in the foot wells - I'm going to us POR-15 on those. How should I prep the painted POR-15 area prior to putting the raptor down? (Acid 8 only? Sand it and then Acid 8?, etc). 2- For the inside - I have to do a good amount of sanding. I want to make sure I get the surface right. I'm thinking I should use Acid 8 anywhere I could have gotten down to metal and Grip 4 basically anywhere else. I'm asking - any reason not to be heavy handed with Acid 8 and Grip 4? 3- For the Hard Top - any reason not to Grip 4 the entire thing (after sanding and normal prep) just to be safe? 4- I have the same bumpers that you did in this video - can you let me know how you prepped them? (Did you just use Grip 4?) Appreciate it -
@UPOLRaptor8 жыл бұрын
Hi Stephen. You can follow the instructions for top coating that POR-15 provides. Once the coating is dried as per the manufacturer's recommendations, you can sand with 120-180 grit paper (don't break through the POR-15 coating!), and then apply RAPTOR over top. If you have more technical questions, email me at infous@u-pol.com, and I'll get a Technical Sales Representative in touch with you.

@UPOLRaptor7 жыл бұрын
Hi. If you need to do a touch up, you don't need to mix a full liter. RAPTOR is a 3:1 product, so in a automotive paint mixing cup, mix 3 parts RAPTOR to 1 part hardener in any quantity you want. You will need an HVLP gun or some other gun plus cup setup, though, since you won't be able to use the RAPTOR bottle with the RAPTOR gun since you're mixing outside the bottle. Do not use a used RAPTOR bottle. The cup/bottle you spray from must be clean.

@UPOLRaptor8 жыл бұрын
Hi Terrence. RAPTOR comes in two color formulations - Black and Tintable. You can add automotive paint to the Tintable of RAPTOR to match nearly any color. For the tint, you should buy a solvent based toner, such as a urethane based color, 2K acrylic solid color, or a mixed acrylic basecoat. For the best color match results, ask the paint supplier to leave out the binder so you get pure pigment. The final color will appear slightly lighter than the base color. If you talk to your local automotive paint store, they will be able to help you.

What are your thoughts for prep on new sheet metal, with mill scale that has not come off with a wire wheel or flap disc? Will the acid etch primer be enough?
@UPOLRaptor7 жыл бұрын
Hi Norm. Without actually seeing the condition of the metal, it’s difficult to answer the question. However, ACID#8 will not neutralize or prevent the rust from continuing to grow. If you have not been successful in removing it with a wire wheel or a flap disk, you have a couple of choices. 1) a corrosion inhibiting epoxy primer may work depending on how well you have been able to clean and sand the surface. 2) application of a corrosion converting or encapsulating product followed up by RAPTOR.

How well does it hold up on chrome. After sanding do you recommend spraying a primer first or can you spray directly over top the sanded chrome finish?
@UPOLRaptor7 жыл бұрын
Hi Kyle. We had another user ask about chrome a few weeks ago, and his application turned out GREAT! His username is AGM88E if you want to connect with him. Chrome presents some adhesion challenges. Reasonably good results can be obtained if one of the following is used, but note that chrome is not an "approved" substrate: 1) Good - Grill - Sand the surface as well as possible, apply two coats of GRIP#4, allow to dry then apply RAPTOR. This technique was used by one of our sales men last year on a Toyota grill and it worked quite well. 2) Best - Bumper and Grill - Sand the surface as well as possible, apply epoxy primer (following primers guidelines), than apply RAPTOR. Another option could be to sand and apply 2 coats of ACID#8 and then apply RAPTOR. Note that this has not been fully tested, so test in an inconspicuous spot first.

Would the raptor liner fade after a while and how well does it hold up against mud sand and dirt? Is it easy to clean? I see some of the samples have a gloss and others don't, how is that?
@UPOLRaptor8 жыл бұрын
RAPTOR Liner has exceptional durability and UV resistance. Depending on where you live, the color of your RAPTOR Liner application should last for many years without fading. RAPTOR Liner is also extremely durable against mud, sand and dirt. It's very difficult to chip or scratch RAPTOR, but if you do, RAPTOR Liner is easily repaired with an additional application. Cleaning RAPTOR is easy - simply hose off. RAPTOR Liner Black mixed in the standard 3:1 mix ratio is a satin black finish, which is quite glossy. To add more gloss, the best way is to clear over the top of it. If you want more of a matte/less glossy finished, there are flattening agents (paste or powders) that are available from any of the automotive paint manufacturers that can be added to RAPTOR. Just follow the guide line for how “flat” you want it to be.

Hi +JNPerformance. For best color control, add color by weight. For best results, use the solvent based toners from basecoat mixing systems. RAPTOR® can also be tinted with solvent based basecoats and solvent based 2K solid color isocyanate cured paints. Where 2K paints are used this will also need to be activated before use. Hi Scott. You should definitely do 2 coats for sufficient covereage, which is the recommended application. RAPTOR can be topcoated, but generally, it's not needed. Clearcoats and basecoats do not have the same level of durability as RAPTOR and are more likely to chip under heavy duty use. If you do choose to spray a basecoat over RAPTOR, allow RAPTOR to dry for 24 hours first. Then, lightly abrade fully cured RAPTOR with a gray scuff pad, clean and degrease, and follow the basecoat manufacturer's instructions.

Hi Brayden Clarke. That is exactly right. Depending on the type of tint you are using and how strong you want the color to be, you can add up to 10% tint, so you can do less than 10%. Also note that if you do choose to add 10% tint that it will not all quite fit in the bottle. You'll have to mix in a separate container and pour part of the mixed product back into the bottle.

@UPOLRaptor7 жыл бұрын
Hi Brayden. Of course you should use the tintable RAPTOR! That insures that the color has the protective properties of the coating. Applying the color over the bedliner would leave your color susceptible to damage. You can spray a clear coat over RAPTOR, but it's not recommended. For the same reason, the bedliner underneath would have all the protective properties you're looking for, but the clearcoat would not. If you decide to do it, once RAPTOR is applied and dry, lightly scuff the RAPTOR with a gray scuff pad, blow off, clean with wax and grease remover and apply the clear.

@UPOLRaptor6 жыл бұрын
Hi, any solvent based paint is compatible. If using 2K acrylic, the colour will need to be activated with its own hardener prior to the addition of Raptor. The Raptor must be mixed with its own hardener at a ratio of 3-1 then add the activated 2K colour to the mix. This is very important because if you just tint with 2K without activating it you will experience under cure. If tinting with solvent base coat, best practice is to leave the binder out of the mix. This ensures you get maximum strength of pigment. Please ensure you use a maximum of 10% tint by volume .That’s 100ml to one mixed bottle of Raptor. Hope it helps

Hi Dylan, oh great! A 4L kit covers approximately 125 square feet. So I think you will need 3 kits. You can also have a look to our indicative consumption document: www.raptorcoatings.com/storage/app/uploads/public/59b/bd3/b19/59bbd3b194f8a117464855.pdf
