I'm a beginner, maybe an advanced one, but I completely agree with your opinion of the piano sounds. I have only had my WK-7600 one day, coming from a CT-X700 (of which I was not overly happy with the piano sounds either). This issue was obvious to me immediately, and I considered returning the unit. I'm not going to do that because, although the piano sounds are important to me, I intend using the electric pianos, vibes, organ, synth and solo brass/wind (trumpet, Sax, flute, trombone) sounds mostly, that and the fact that this keyboard offers so much more. I'll have look at your adjustment video. These are great videos on this keyboard, thanks. I'm kinda into the Santana, Spyro Gyra, Fattburger, Doors styles, where piano still plays an important part, just not the main 'sound style'. I also like old style blues and jazz. Anyway, I was astonished at the weight of this keyboard, and coming fron a 61 key, wow, what a difference is physical looks - it looks enormous compared to the CT-X700.

Ever since my first digital piano in the late 80s I have hoped for a good copy of an acoustic piano some day. That day has not come yet. ALL digital pianos so far have those fast decay rates where a chord or single note fades out 2 or 3x faster than just an average acoustic piano. Over the last 30 years I have had six digital pianos, I buy a new one when technology advances a little. A little is all it has advanced in 30 years. Today I am looking at the Roland V-Piano ($2300) or a Dexibell ($3000) as my next possible replacement. Today I am still using the YamahaP95 for my piano. The P95 is acceptable for solo piano, but when I play a very slow piece it is impossible to play correctly because the notes fade to nothing before they should leaving gaps in the music performance. The P95 like ALL Dpianos today is very sterile compared to an acoustic. (I am a pro solo pianist performing my own compositions...so I am very picky :)

I think the reason why a piano can't be fully emulated is due to the vast amount of storage and processing power it would take and the cost. With that said the most realistic and best sounding piano sound I ever heard came from a Roland Fantom X (I think it was from an expansion pack.). It's really a shame that the new Fantom Xa doesn't have the same sound.

+WackkaCOInc You are correct, multi sampled at more than 3 velocities requires more processing. But my Yamaha P95 is a more simple sample with longer sustain, and it is not a very large sample and did not require a powerful keyboard to play the sample. So it is possible, with skill, to produce a good "playable" sample with low processing and low memory requirements. The sustain does require memory when using a ADSR (standard) envelope generator.

Yes, the convenience of physical drawbars and a 76 note keyboard that is expressively controllable is a good value. I am a pianist and disappointed however. In the age of cheap memory and processor electronics, I don't know why the piano sample has to be small, short and looped??

They have the new CTX line, the CTX3000 does everything the WK7600 does for just $300 US. The CTXs have 61 keys and no drawbar organ physical controls, but superior sound to the WK. Medeli AKX10 is the one to watch today, it has all the features and sound of a Yamaha SX700 for only $780 US. The Casio CTX, however, is the best deal ever for an arranger with tone and style editing at a great entry price to see if you like arranger keyboards.

Yes that's so funny because in my searches i have found them as you say really good. I have seen them since a few weeks. It seems they really good I'm looking to find one of them in second hand. Yes as you i put medeli in first and sx 5000 and 3000 at second and third position as you mention. I have found also the korg EK-50 who seems very useful for sound and recording with his really simple os system. What do you think of this korg?
@funnzie
@funnzie Жыл бұрын
The only Korg arranger I have ever owned is the MicroArranger a mini-key feature packed arranger using the Korg Triton engine (I guess) I bought it new for about $500 US 10 years ago. I have never heard a Korg PA in person. A reviewer claimed the Medeli sounded as good as the Yamaha SX700, but again, I have never heard a SX700/900 in person. Today I am using a Medeli for experimenting, but a Casio MZ-X500 for arranging. I am not using the Casio sounds though, I am MIDI cabled over to a Korg Krome so the Casio styles are using the Krome sound. I am giving up on replacing my arrangers for the 3 to 5 years until a new market makes some much better ones that are not so disappointing in sound and style creators.

Now I'm confused.... I've watched many videos, reviews and the likes before I decided to purchase the WK-7600. I am waiting delivery so I figured I'd look for more videos. That's when I came across your channel. I was under the impression, since the WK is a workstation, you could adjust different characteristics of the "instruments" you are playing... decay being one of them. Yours is the first video to point out the quick decay being an issue. Just saying... Isn't this a user definable feature?? Also note, in Kris Nicholson video "Casio WK 7500 & WK 7600 Comparison" he points out many differences between the 7500 and 7600...Whereas the 7600 is much MUCH more quiet. Your KB mechanically sounds like a 7500, so it may indeed be an early release of the 7600.

You will probably not have a problem with your keybed. I have concluded Casio started manufacturing the NEW keybed for the 7600 either mid year or next year of production. My keybed is the same as the 7500. It is hard to believe the Casio you are buying (if new) will have a bad keybed like the 7500. For the piano sound....there is only so much you can do to edit a sound, I have had very expensive digital pianos with lots of control over the sound, but if the sound is bad to begin with, it never becomes great tweaking it. I do have a video on just editing the piano of the 7600, everyone who watches the video and repeats my tutorial loves the piano. The sound design I did on the piano gives a very warm and slower decay sound: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iHLFqpylp8aGmLM

Hi funnzie thx for your answer-now i have a doubt to buy the WK 7600 or the CGP 700 or WK 6600 which would you buy ? and thx for your patience and your sharing with us... :)
@funnzie
@funnzie 7 жыл бұрын
Depends if you want an arranger or a piano. The CGP is a full 88 key piano with no arranger functions, the WK6600 is a lower quality sound engine than the 7600 with fewer user storage for edited sounds and rhythms. An arranger will have controls for styles, and chord changes on the keyboard will follow with the style. The CGP has rhythm tracks which are not the same as an arranger. I don't know about the sound quality of the 6600 or the CGP700...but if you are going to spend $800, the Yamaha PSR-S670 is going to have the best sound and the most arranger functions, it is only 61 keys but will have great sounding pianos and other instruments. Please view my video #1 on the Korg microARRANGER, the set up I have with a Yamaha P95 controlling the Korg is ideal. The Korg has good sounds, almost as good as the PSR670, but with mini keys, so you need an external keyboard. If you could find an used Yamaha P95 and a "open box" priced Korg it would cost you about $800 for both. Keyboard decisions are difficult when on a budget, the big question is "do you want an arranger"????

You are welcome. Please note that I have played a Casio WK7600 at our local music store and the keybed is much better than mine. I can only theorize that the Keybeds were changed after the 7500 series and later into the 7600 series. So test play the WK or CTK you intend on buying to see if the keybed is right for you.

@funnzie

The Casio is the most powerful editing keyboard. You can edit the sounds and you can create your own style from a blank program and make the style anything you desire. The Casio also has physical drawbars for organ and a longer keybed of 76 keys. The Casio is the only choice if you want to create your own sounds and styles. Because you have so much creative style the Casio will never get old or boring. I have never played a 410, but I am assuming it probably has better instrument sounds....I am guessing though.

@funnzie
@funnzie 7 жыл бұрын
You are welcome. The two keyboards are similarly priced but offer totally different features. The Piaggero cannot edit sounds or make new rhythms, but the sounds it does have are superior to the Casio. The Casio does not have the sound quality of the Yamaha, but has a much fuller feature list of controlling a performance. So if not interested in editing then buy the Yamaha. If you need to compose your own rhythms and edit sounds then buy the Casio....or a Korg MicroArranger.

Okay. I do agree with your point there. However, while pointing out the strengths & weaknesses of the Casio, why didn't you ALSO focus on the strengths & weaknesses of the Piagerro? For instance, the fact that it doesn't use the FULL sound architecture of Yamaha's 'XG' technology! In other words, the Piagerro 60/80 are operating off of the incomplete 'XG-Lite' technology instead; meaning that the sounds are 'lite' & 'thin' (airy)! Nonetheless, as you stated earlier, I guess it all comes down to the playing-style of the musician.
@funnzie
@funnzie 8 жыл бұрын
+Gary Watson Jr. Actually I did, you just forgot. The video mentions the Piagerro cannot be edited, no sound editing and no style editing. Also the sustain pedal control for the split keyboard function cannot be specified on or off for the left and right split, instead the split is always sustain on the right split and no sustain on the left split.

I've had the WK-7600 for a while but haven't used it at all yet. Just wondering, and this is a basic enquiry, how to activate the touch response. I think that's what it's called as this is what it's called on other keyboards I own. The factory setting has the strength of tone set dependent upon the amount of pressure applied when pressing a key. The touch response button negates this. I can't seem to locate it on this keyboard...

What kind of additional speaker do you suggest to be use when playing this keyboard in a large room and what type amplifier and size. I might be singing also what mic is good?
@funnzie
@funnzie 8 жыл бұрын
A large room is the biggest question. What size room and height of ceilings? I suggest near field monitors for venues of anything but a large hall. An 8 inch active monitor will reproduce the sound of the Casio very well, while PA speakers just don't make good acoustic sounds. Near field monitors are the same speaker a recording studio uses, so they are not rugged built like PA speakers. But with a nice bag and some care the near field monitors should do fine. I used 8 inch Behringer's monitors, and even used them outdoors for outdoors performance of piano and guitar. The monitors will also give you good vocals. Which monitor to buy will be difficult there is a big selection. Price for a 5 inch is about $300 a pair, and an 8 inch about $500.00 a pair. Today I use the Rowland Cube Monitors, they are small but work okay. You will need a pair in stereo, when attempting to use mono or a pair in mono mode the sound will not be good, stereo pairs work best for piano and guitar. (guitar with a modulated reverb and delay for a simulated stereo effect). To see a sample list of active monitors (active = self powered speakers containing their own amp.). www.sweetwater.com/c405--Active_Monitors/low2high

Sorry,, missed the microphone question. The most popular mic for vocals in dynamic configuration is the Shure SM58, the standard of the industry. This mic is designed for live amplification. For recording a large diaphragm condenser mic is needed and a good match to the pre-amp is necessary, but condenser mics will need a mixer and power before inputting to the Casio...a condensor makes mic choice extremely difficult. I would suggest the ShureSM58 to begin with because it is only about $100.00

NO. The Wk is a marginal synthesizer, not a full control synth. The Casio XW-P1 is more of a synthesizer and keyboard with standard sounds for a band, and is only $50.00 more. You will have full control of your organ, a piano sound that is only for a band, not a solo piano, and the ability to layer sounds 6 layers deep, and synths 4 oscillators deep. The WK7600 is more of a arranger or song writing tool, and the XW-P1 is more of a band instrument. See my video series on the XW-P1 for more info and sound auditions.

For just a little more money there is a new arranger keyboard in town, the Medeli AKx 10. I bought one about a month ago. Much better sounds over all, but piano sound still not great unless you are playing fast. Now out of production, the Korg MicroArranger has the best playable piano, thought the piano sound needs editing to get rid of the high frequency harshness. All three of these keyboards hover in price from $500 to $700.

@@4tune889 Instead of the P125 the DGX670 is much better for controlling the piano sound, better speakers too, it also has USB audio and MIDI to computer that the P125 does not have. The only reason to buy the P125 over the DGX670 is direct stereo outputs for stage amplification and lighter weight. I have used a Yamaha P95 for 10 years, just replaced it this year with a Roland RD-2000 for access to the V-Piano (modeled piano). @@funnzie good luck with that. To clarify, I meant I kept my Wk7600, not P125 as I never bought it, but was impressed with it when played in a music store. I got hold of used, higher model Yamaha P515 but it has quite a stiff key action that I’m not hugely fond of. The WK still plays well and with all its limitations is great for home use. DGX 670 is very impressive and I think that Yamaha has nailed it with that one, with its piano features combined with arranger functionality. I played it in a music store and loved its Key action.

@@4tune889 Oh, sorry, thought you wanted to know my opinion of the P125. But my comparison stands for the 125 and DGX. If you don't have to move it, you can't go wrong for the price (or any price) with the DGX. The P515 is not playable or editable enough to be used. I thought the P515 was going to be my next piano until I played it, very uneven voicing and un-fixable. The DGX is half the price and 10x the instrument.

I have a Casio XW-P1, and i think that it has the same sounds of the WK 7600. It's a shame the piano samples are so short. The only good sound of the piano section is the wurly, or "60's electric piano".

In fact that's the reason that I bought my WK 200. The EP emulations IMHO are not quite spot on. They are definitely close to the Reed (Wurlitzer) and tines ( Fender-Rhodes ) sounds

how do you record the rhythm and song controller parts?
@funnzie
@funnzie 6 жыл бұрын
One may record two ways: 1) MIDI. 2) audio. The MIDI sequencer will record a song that can be played back on the Casio only. OR Record audio to SD card or with a 3rd party audio recorder through the outputs with a stereo pair of cables to the recorder. For MIDI recording the Casio will record all the pattern changes, start and stop, layer, splits and more.

Yes, your auto accompaniment buttons (fills, intros, ending, variation changes) will be recorded in the MIDI sequencer (song recorder). Just press record and give it a try, If I remember it may even record bank changes.

kindly sir differentiate between octave shift and transpose?is there any difference?
@funnzie
@funnzie 8 жыл бұрын
Yes, there is a difference. Octave shift moves the keyboard left or right giving you more high notes - OR - more low notes. Octave shift only works in octave intervals. Transpose moves at one semitone at a time, up or down the scale. Transpose allows you to play in the key of "C" but the keyboard transposes to any other key. There is also tuning, which moves the tone in less than one semitone.

Depends if you wish to be a piano player or a keyboard player. For a piano player the Yamaha or Casio digital pianos with 88 keys and a weighted keybed are the way to go such as the CasioPX160 or the YamahaP115. Synth keyboards, or what is called synth action keybeds, are not weighted and not suggested for a student wishing to be an acoustic pianist. Synth action keyboards are for doing things like the Casio WK7600 in the video, these keyboards make many more sounds and rhythms than a digital piano. The synth keyboards are for orchestrating music or recording complete songs with many parts. The synth keyboards are for bands or musicians that need creative tools to make new sounds, new drum rhythms, or combinations and layers of sounds...a large pallet of sound to work with is needed for the sound sculpting creative musician. There are arranger keyboards like the Casio in this video, and there are synthesizers both analog and digital for making sounds from scratch and there are synthesizers that use both sampled sounds (such as a trumpet) and synth produced sounds and allow editing and layering of both. For arrangers choose the Casio in the video for lots of features but less sound quality, or choose a Yamaha Piagerro NPV80 for better sound quality but without any way to make your own sounds or rhymes. For a synthesizer in the price range of the Casio choose a Roland JunoDS61 or a YamahaMX61. These synths will allow editing sound and give you a good choice of high quality sounds for minimum price (for a synth). Then as you spend more money there are many more choices. There are very few keyboards with 88 weighted keys and lots of synthesizer features, the few available are very expensive.

Um, I have a different perspective sir. Seeing that you mentioned some of the major manufacturers (Roland, Yamaha, Kurzweil, Korg, etc.), anyone that's familiar with those brands is fully cognizant of the fact those manufacturers aren't created equal! For example, if both Roland & Kawii releases a $400.00 workstation, you can expect the Roland workstation to be the better sounding of the two!
@funnzie

+Gary Watson Jr. I don't understand. I have been playing keyboards since 1967, started with a Lowery Organ, then on from there to all the major manufacturers, and now that Moog has become affordable, there is a Moog in my future. Each keyboard has its strengths and weaknesses, That is why ALL professional musicians have more than one keyboard, we use each one to its greatest strength. That is what this review is intended for, to find the strength and weakness of the Casio so consumers can make the best decision possible. ..I don't understand your comment, I have owned Roland, Kurtzweil, Yamaha pianos, many different models from different periods of history, I choose my current piano by todays technology and who (manufacturer) is producing the best acoustic sounding digital piano. Today in the $600 market it is Yamaha, but only to those seeking the acoustic sound of a grand piano, not someone performing piano in a rock band. Again each instrument has its strengths and weakness, we need to know these before we buy.

Why would you compare a keyboard/workstation to two digital pianos? That's an inequality! The piano tone/s on a keyboard/workstation will NEVER be able to produce a piano tone that's better than the piano tone/s on a digital piano, because the digital piano's 'piano-tones' are exclusively engineered to sound as much as a real piano as possible; in order to stay true the name 'digital piano'! Whereas the piano tone/s on a keyboard/workstation is/are ONLY there as a mere 'representation' of a real piano. Therefore in all honesty, when comparing the realism & clarity of piano tones, the digital piano will ALWAYS win over the keyboard/workstation!
@funnzie

+Gary Watson Jr. You are expecting the manufacturer to be incompetent in providing "usable" acoustic piano tones? I hold Casio to the highest standards, just as I do with Roland, Yamaha, Kawaii, Emu, Kurzweil, (keyboards I have owned). I don't understand your comment, the Piagerro is the direct competition, a $400 arranger keyboard, it has better sound. Casio calls their WK7600 a "High Grade Keyboard". So I reviewed it as a serious instrument, not a toy.

+funnzie I found some "brasil-review", in which some Guy connected Casio Keyboard to Lap-top Software "Kontakt" of Native Instruments, and all the variety of Piano-sounds and edits from, example, Yamaha Motif, Roland and Nord, to name only a few, became available on the Audio-out of his PC, but also on Audio-out of Casio, when connected properly....But no reviewer compared these PC-generated tones in such a decent "straight to recorder" Way as you did...Maybe one of us here will try it one Day, it would be very interesting to test real World Quality of all those "Software-pianos"...just saying. However, I agree that this Casio is very good at the price, far away of some Toy; etc...More expensive high-end Keyboards of two thousand Dollars certainly sound better, but I would love to see how many People from consumer Public, with ordinary audio-sets, would hear some serious difference...I believe that most of those would recognize only a tiny Nuances, ESP through you-tube and similar compressed sources...So, this is more an Issue for us audio-geeks and phanatics, almost kinda esoteric Topic hahahah...:))

+mita bekrija Yes, by connecting an USB cable out of the Casio into your computer you can control other instruments via MIDI. You can play the computer audio output back through the Casio for use of the Casio's speakers. Connection to the Casio is through the .125 inch stereo input.

+funnzie Thank you, I finally completed my whole Picture of all those possibilities...it's quite overwhelming, I can see why you like to keep it as simple as possible. Only thing that one can criticize on Casio -compared to more expensive Keyboards- is that elusive Tone-quality- whatever descriptive Words we would use to define it... The Decay/Attack, and Dynamic asides, some would use Words like consistency, clear, fatness, fullness, richness- and whatever we tried when describing such an illusive thing like Note - Sound in musical Way...I believe that we should quit those Attempts to duplicate a perfect Sound of real acoustic Instrument- because we did copy it as close as an average Person could ever imagine. If one really wanna more genuine Sound- I would recommend a real Thing..;)) I don't know, though, regarding that rhythm-sounds, because you said those can not be edited- how much of importance can it be... Some Drum-sounds I heard in some reviews were pretty decent to me. If one wanna more punch or hit, sparkle, whatever, maybe should think about putting real Kick, Snare and Cymbals in his Mix- to cut a long Story with all improvements in digital Domain, and all those extra-expensive electro-digital-drums..OK, just mentioning it as some thinking of my own, I don't wait for any answer about that....just chatting..:))

Please note, that early production WK 7600 seems to have a different keybed than later models. At my local music store they have a WK7600 with a much better keybed than mine. This only make me reason that there was a mid-production change in keybeds....OR....these keybeds wear quickly and become noisy. Find another KZbin post with the WK and ask them about their keybed, if they purchased it new and played it a few years.
