I think what makes this even better, is knowing they all came together after the American Music Awards in 1985. Some won awards that night, others did not, but after the show, they all went to the studio, left their egos at the door and came together to sing this song! The recording of the song and video happened all in one night! Although I believe Michael came in early to lay some of his track to help things move along.

The musicians & core group of vocalists had recorded their parts on an earlier day, at Kenny Rogers studio (Lions Share). The "full crowd" session, recording the chorus & making the video, was the all-nighter, following the AMA awards (but not everyone had attended the award show).

@@wnsafford1854 @WN Safford Precisely correct. I mean, to be respectful, this person Nicole Neal got it a ton better than many others I've seen, so I'm not piling on Nicole, but I abhor those wrongheaded, hyperbolic YT comments people paste when they believe everything they read in YT comments. The ones like: "They all left the Grammys, the Oscars and the Golden Globes, and the BAFTAs together at the same time, in a 700-foot Limousine, went up to space to commune with The Sun, and arrived at the studio and did this all in one take in just over 7 minutes, with no rehearsals, and then world hunger was ended for good!"

Sadly, videos like this couldn't be made now. Back then singers could actually sing and play their instruments. As I tell my grandkids, there isn't much "good" music after the 80's. Great message in this song and legends, all of them. Too many of them are already gone.

I think the 90s was the last great decade for both music and movies in terms of having a large quantity of quality. There have certainly been very talented musical artists, actors, filmmakers and great songs written and movies made since then, but the QUANTITY of QUALITY has dropped significantly since the 90s!

You may have seen this. Here’s Cyndi Lauper, right after the AMAs on Jan. 28, 1985, recording the bridge section of “We Are the World” with Michael Jackson, Huey Lewis, and Kim Carnes: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fqG1lqSEe7t_Y5I Some highlights (for me) • Steve Perry fanboying over Cyndi Lauper (at 5:15 - 5:30). Steve Perry (addressing Quincy Jones): “Wait a second, Q. Listen to her. It’s like - harmonic things happening when she sings. It almost sounds like conversation. She’s amazing.” • Although I couldn’t make out what Cyndi Lauper was saying (at 6:45 to 7:08) whatever it was caused Kenny Loggins to burst into knee-slapping laughter. Throughout this whole video, she makes everyone laugh and smile.

If you liked the collaboration of artists in “We Are The World “ you may like this: “The Wall” Live in Berlin, July 1990: Roger Waters & guest artists - concert to commemorate the fall of the Berlin Wall kzbin.info/www/bejne/qKXWf5Zol9R7b5I Check out Cyndi Lauper at 12:20 to 18:25 singing “Another Brick in the Wall - Part 2,” then dancing around the soloists like an enchanted sprite, and looking gorgeous with long wavy hair, and dressed in a schoolboy’s uniform).

Michael is King. And all the rest of these artists were legends in their own right. Every single singer had destinctive voices, amazing hits on their own. And today is deserted, fake artists and a bunch of kids unfortunately think they got it like that. A damn shame. And all though I love my Rihanna, Billie Eilish and Adele, including the grunge era, 80'and 90's, early 2000's era, are the only artists/music who brung in that real "up in yo freelinz" in their music like them legends from back in the day. They sing real music.

I have said this before - what amazes me about this is not the legends singing solos but the legends who were willing to put their egos aside and just sing background. Not being featured except in the crowd yet they were so invested that they didn't care they were just there to support....now THAT is amazing!

That camera movement on Michael tho, always gives me chills,DAMN! The shoes, the socks, the glove. It's like you know who it is. This is an incredible video. One fact I think needs to be pointed out in this Pandemic World we live in is that these people cared enough to come together physically to do this number. They left their egos at the door. No Zoom, no Skye. They are all legends. And to take time out of their busy schedules to do this speaks volumes about the kind of people we were then compared to now. And where are the artists of today? why aren't they doing something like this? God knows the need is still there. I"m so glad you reacted to this. I love this song.

I was only about 6 or 7, but I do remember this being on MTV. I was old enough to know & understand what it was, but I didn't understand, fully, the magnitude of it. So I saw & heard it for the 1st time since then within the last year or two & when you talk about goosebumps...omg ME TOO sooo much. There are no 2 voices in the song that sound anything like anyone else. So many different voices, genre's of music, & personal styles. Somehow each voice complimented the next. Every pairing, on paper, I would not thought would work. Best example , in my opinion, Stevie Wonder & Bruce Springsteen. Probably the 2 most polar-opposite sounding. The whole thing together was just amazing & I don't think anything else will ever top it.

"We Are the World" was the second supergroup collaboration recorded to benefit the Ethiopian famine. "Do They Know It's Christmas?" was recorded and released at the end of 1984 by primarily British and Irish artists. "Tears Are Not Enough" was the Canadian version for the famine. There have been many other recordings like this, including some re-recordings of both "We Are the World" and "Do They Know It's Christmas?" later on with updated artist rosters for other causes.

Written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie. Supergroup of legends 🤯 Full credits are in Wikipedia. Strongly 💪 suggested video 📹: Northern Lights perform Tears Are Not Enough 😢 Bryan Adams is 1 member of the supergroup Northern Lights. Canadian effort 🇨🇦 for Africa 🌍 relief. Dan Akroyd is the only Canadian. 🇨🇦 His wife and American actress Donna Dixon and Quincy Jones coaxed him to sing for USA for Africa. Canadian David Foster griped that DA was supposed to sing for Northern Lights! Quincy Jones responded "He is ours!" The 2 friends are collaborators for the Michael Jackson album Thriller. RIP to the fallen members of USA 🇺🇸 for Africa 🌍

First, Quincy is genius. Second, back then we were doing pretty good with coming together more. There were problems for sure, but things were improving until millennials and zoomers arrived and trashed all of the progress. Fire was stoked up and each group was told that the other hated them. It’s going to take generations to get back to the good progress that we were making in the 80’s and 90’s. Sorry to be a little negative, but I grew up in that era and loved the progress. At my school, we elected the very first black girl to be our prom queen. We were so proud of that. I know that doesn’t mean all problems were solved, but we were all getting closer and it breaks my heart to see all of that improvement is gone.

Seen several reaction videos to this song by now, and I'm just dissappointed in how many of you all don't even recognize literal music legends.
