In June of 1968, at Fort Benning jump school, a Green Beret came over to a group of us who had just earned our 'silver wings' and asked us, who among us wanted to be their own boss. When I decided to start training for selection it was last March. I am putting my packet together as we speak for October. Dreamed of being a Green Beret since I was a kid. Time to make that shit my reality. Great video! Edit * Thanks for all the support. My packet has been completed and sitting on the SF recruiters desk. Just waiting for fiscal year 22 to open up and I’ll be classed. I wish all of you the best as well in everything you do. ***** Update 6/08/2022 12:45PM ***** I collapsed a couple of weeks prior to report date. Not a heat injury but apparently I have holes in my heart and an enlarged atrium. Long story short, I’m being medboarded and currently waiting on ratings. I never replied because I’m devastated of the outcome of me wanting to pursue my dreams. Thanks for all the support and I pray everyone one of you gets selected and makes it through.

I went through infantry osut with a lot of 18x and gonna graduate airborne school on the 7th while they go into selection. My one thing of advise is to not lose motivation, because that place is a 22 week shit hole and you’re gonna lose gains. I used to be strong asf and I lost most of what I had. Be doing insane amounts of push-ups sit ups pull ups and make your own weights (hill bags with shit and lift them or go to the bathroom with a towel and put it over the top to do pull-ups) eat as much as you can bro and work out all day every day because if you don’t you’ll suffer. I have a captain in my bay that passed selection completely and he said “you don’t have to be the strongest but be that guy that’s always willing to help carry or switch out, be there as a team member and keep your cool no matter what” just don’t lose motivation. Sand hill breaks you down and never builds you back up. They want to dick you down and see you fall. You have to show everyone you’re really about that fucking life. Good luck brother, go earn that blue cord.

Overseas work hours vary heavily but while in garrison, it's usually 9 to whenever they are done for the day. As part of the support company working alongside green beret's, most work 9-5 sometimes 3 or 4. Ever since we pulled out of Afghanistan and our last deployment, we've just been doing a lot of field training and classes since some people were complaining that we weren't getting enough training as we usually deploy as a battalion or company every other 6 months. I think our next deployment in my battalion will be in 2023... That's when I ETS though, maybe I'll extend if I'm offered to deploy again haha

Always regretted walking away from a recruiter when things were hot. Fast forward, post college and in the midst of my “business” career my wife encouraged me to step into that recruiting office. Although I enjoy what I do 9-5, there was nothing like lighting up the sky with my brothers during some training, sleeping in the mud and rucking 10 miles with a 50 # ruck with some SF guys. My kids want to know more about what I do in the army than my 9-5; my step dad former army ranger & Apache bad @$$ calls them “there I was” stories. He would say “there I was” flying an Apache was a much better story than “there I was” closing a deal. That said, kudos to all hard working men providing for their families whatever it is they do. I’m especially thankful I get to serve my country and have great stories with my fellow brothers while doing it.

One night it was brought up about Friend Remembered. I listened tot he guys talk about their friend who hit the landmine with the HMMWV. I was on duty that night and the radio traffic was horrible to hear and we really wanted to launch a Hawk. I said nothing and we all took the shot. Its a silent toast. Thank you Bill, Chief and Rob for being good friends and the whole crowd. I was honored to fly you as my customers and ride with you on bikes. I learned a lot from how you spoke and it made me a good NCO for my platoon as an E-5. SM from other platoons wanted to come to mine that is how well we operated. We all came home in 04 from Iraq. Currently putting in the work to get a Navy EOD contract. I watch this video often. Helps me to put into words why I’m doing what I’m doing, and then some. Good luck to everyone else trying out. See you in the field.

Back in the day before SF became a separate branch--like, 51 years ago--I was infantry, then SF, then infantry. Watching this video, I feel that the words can just as well describe my original decision to go infantry. My dad was infantry '41-'69. And of course I later applied for and was selected for SF. As "The Originals" writes below, "One Army, One Fight." Thanks for your service, Marc, for taking The Oath. And thanks to your sons, as well. Best wishes! SFODA-572, SFODA-575, and HQ-5th SFG(A)

This mans Mindset is what I delt with trying to find a job after the military DQed me for the DOJ putting a stigmatism allowance despite have high scores across the boards on everything. Thank god I found the HotShots. Thank you from a military family who doesn’t get to continue the tradition to all the men and women who serve you are all like brothers and sisters to me still.

That poem...is me. I'm 16 and I feel called to go into the navy to be a chaplain. I can't see myself doing just a normal job. It's something I've wanted and dreamt of doing ever since I can remember. To be the last line of defense for the souls who will not come back.

My family is three generations deep in service, myself included. My grandfather was an Army Chaplain during WW2, Asiatic Pacific. Think about what you’re asking for, son. And to be frank, these days, I would strongly advise my little boy against enlisting. Then again, I was Army and I got jacked up. Your choice man.

As somebody who served a decade in infantry batts with multiple tours over, this mindset is exactly what drove me to always push and drive my guys into the dirt ensuring we were better prepared than the rest! After a career ending injury and being forcibly medically retired last year I now question what’s the meaning of it all, where do I fit in out here? Do I fit in out here? I’m in business school studying finance and accounting at a D1 university and I can assure you guys like us do not fit in to that suit and tie corporate life. Do I finish the program? Do I start my own thing? Do I just live day to day? Idk but I do know this video is the first thing I’ve listened to in the last 19 months since being retired that explains how the hell I feel so thank you!

I first stumbled into this video when I was a week from graduating 11B MOS Q school, we had just finished a 12-mile ruck, and an assault on a village scenario right after. My shins were burning and my uniform wet but as I waited for the showers to be free, I saw this video and for the remaining days there, I saw this video everything before going to sleep, and when I was on the bus back to the airport after graduation.

I never wanted a normal life, I never wanted a normal job, I couldn’t stand the thought of a 9-5 Wake up, Go to work, Come home, Go to bed, Do it all over again, At the same desk, In the same office, In the same town, For me, I wanted adventure. I wanted to see the world. I wanted to be my best self And constantly strive for perfection I wanted to surround myself with individuals who felt that same way. We constantly push each other Forward Never backwards I’ve always thought to myself I never want my kids looking up to someone else. That’s why.
