More propaganda. China’s economy is the 2nd largest in the world and 10 times the size of Korea’s, but no one says anything about Korea’s “overcapacity” on shipbuilding. Korea, which is not even one of the top 10 countries in GDP, makes up 25% of the world’s shipbuilding. The U.S. makes up less than 1% of the shipbuilding. Unfair trade practices is not the reason why China or all these other countries are ahead of the U.S. in ship building.

There is no amount of talk by anyone will change the dominancy of Chinese ship building capacities. Learn to live with it or even benefit from it is a sensible approach.

It's only unreasonable because the US isn't dominating. I'm sure they won't be saying that if they were the one dominating . It's like saying Boeing is unreasonably dominating the passenger airline manufacturing.

Of course, different perspectives = different realities. For the US China’s shipbuilding capacity is unreasonable because China is its adversary and the US needs to get it’s act together.

@@freedomsong9747 to clarify, it’s not unreasonable for China to dominate the shipping industry. It’s unreasonable for the US to help fund their adversary’s rise in Naval dominance through business investment and favored nation trade status. Not to mention the technology theft that was allowed to take place and used on their carriers and submarines. And finally it’s unreasonable for the US to cut Naval spending while our adversary increases theirs.

It's simple China is not a radical liberal capitalist economy where the investors are looking for 2 digits return on their investments. Their government is reinvesting their trade surplus in projects that will improve the purchasing power parity of their general population. What is reasonable for them to do would be unreasonable to do in a radical capitalist econnomy. But they needed a growth of their maritime fleet for their growing maritime trade at the lower cost possible. Why not invest in domestic shipbuilding with their engineers that are specialized in lowering the cost of production of everything? Sound reasonable to me. Some of their business partners would like to buy their shps that have the best Quality/Price ratio of the world's market? Sounc reasonable to me too. Oh! Now they are dominant in shipbuilbing? It's the reasonable consequence of having the best Quality/Price ratio in a free market.

I’m sorry but how can china’s ship build be 230 times when ur graph says China has 51% and US has 1% so shouldn’t that be only 51 times? And also China’s navy is only a little more then America and by weight is less then America. Also what is the purpose of this propaganda piece cause I don’t think it looks bad on China that they have 51% of the ship building capacity, China isn’t stopping u from building ur capacity of ship building seems like China is doing good?

Only if the USA is the only buyer of that ship will the use of sanctions against many countries destroy the dollar, as countries will try to avoid engaging in trade with the USA and prefer China instead.

Ship building industry is a high labor concentrated industry. Average salary of a Chinese worker is only about 10 percent of that of US worker. US needs to reduce its average social salary to compete with China.
