New York Times correspondent David Sanger, author of the book "New Cold Wars," tells "Face the Nation" that the new international world order is a "very different competition than what we had in the Cold War."
"Face the Nation" is America's premier Sunday morning public affairs program. The broadcast is one of the longest-running news programs in the history of television, having debuted Nov. 7, 1954, on CBS. Every Sunday, "Face the Nation" moderator and CBS News senior foreign affairs correspondent Margaret Brennan welcomes leaders, newsmakers, and experts to a lively round table discussion of current events and the latest news.

It's really time that we as Americans became true Patriots and developed more of an interest in National and international affairs. For our own sakes, we need to look past our own borders, and see what's going on in the rest of the world

AGREED. The more we refrain from international affairs, the more it costs us (in so many ways); of course over imposing is harmful too.

"A very different competition than what we had in the Cold War"? You failed to mention one of the biggest differences: the people in leadership positions. Throughout the Cold War, the political class of both the West and the Communist camps personally experienced the horror of war. They had a deep understanding of the strategic issues. That generation is now gone. Now we have in Washington DC a whole generation of politicians who talk about war as if it costs nothing. They obviously know nothing about the strategic issues. The media just abandoned the ethics of their profession and became the incesteous partner of the political class.

Sanger has been very, very wrong about North Korea in the past. Sure, he’s regarded as a trusted conduit for Defense and State Departments but therein lies his weakness: When US government security sources are weak in an area like North Korea, his analysis will be weak as well. I call his work the Upper East Side opinion. He gets to go on Face the Nation to promote a new book; but be warned - it ain’t necessarily so. MSM seems to have forgotten the skepticism it once had after the Vietnam War.

6:52 the loss of our "counter terrorism" base in the Republic of Níger is not quite as big as that America did it in response to the "new" ruling military junta that has overthrown their previous (more legitimate) government. While we can not stay where American forces are not welcome, this was not good for international security or diplomacy - not just America.
