I played corporate league soccer in Japan for several years and saw how players come out of high school with really good fundamentals. It was certainly on display in this game.

Don’t think I’ve ever in my life seen so many back and sideways passes. Lack of creativity and everyone seemed to be afraid of running at their opponents with the ball.

This is why i hate about how we play, cuz even our senior team does that. Like i get your trying to play safe and hope for an opening to come through. But...many times if your going up against a good team, they are gonna be man marking you and staying close to you, so an opening to pass to isnt going to happen, and you just have to start taking chances by trying to brrak through the defense with 1 on 1 encounters.

In Japanese soccer, there’s a huge emphasis on midfield fluidity. Having grown up there, They’re very focused on the technical aspect of the game. Quick one-two play, good long passes or quick short passes. A lot of the best Japanese players are midfielders

from Youth Soccer Clubs to colleges we parents spending billions of dollars every year, this is the end result. it's been like this for many decades. To USA soccer top leadership group, it's time to change top to bottom. this team seems to work hard but missed so many football basics.

a huge problem with players today is they don't know where their teammates are until they get the ball..you never see first touch passes..US Soccer needs a concerted effort to saturate the country with quality futsal courts ..use unused basketball courts ..there isn't better training than futsal to teach holding the ball under pressure ..US Soccer needs change at the top..failing miserably

Lethargic, unatheletic, clueless, no football ( soccer) philosophy, lack of individual quality, dreamless and lack of ambitions. The Japanese were great to watch: the organisation of the team coupled with individual quality . They looked like a team going to a tournament. The USA? Nothing. Poor first touches. Every players, it seems had his own game plan. They ran like headless ducks. I hardly saw a flow of passes. They simply kicked the ball hoping the ball makes a fairer decision by heading at the goal. Total insult to soccer fans. They were simply making fun of soccer.
