Players play percentages in a difficult situation. If my previous explanation is not enough for you, I'd have to ask you to read them again. Also, did you understand why that jump was not a two-way shot? Corteza had a chance to foul out Alcano with a ball-in-hand, went for a runout and hooked himself on the 4. Then he forced his offense with a low percentage jump, instead of aborting the straight offense to play a higher percentage kick shot. That desision cost him the game.

Tough first game! And an amazing number of unintentional safeties throughout the match.

I'm aware of that. You know how tv shows always put advertisements more often when it is coming to the end, same sort of thing. lol

The reason he chosed the jump over the kick 1)Jump:He knew that the cb would end up - close to the 9-ball, 2)Jump:If he's missing the 4, alcano will have a long tough shot at best. 3) He cant do an offensive kick, and he cant really do a defensive one either. imho, he took the right shoot.

"The jump actually is a 3way shot. We can make it in the side, we can miss the side and maybe make it in corner, or we can miss the side and leave it on the short rail at the other end of the table, and maybe hooked by the 7. If we make it, we have an excellent chance of a good shot on the next ball, and a win." You fail to argument why the kick is a better shot.You seem to realize that a kick wont hook Alcano,but only will put some distance between cb and ob, that is if you avoid the scratch.

I hate how the outcome of the match can be guessed by how much time is left! The end was totally spoiled because of the amount of time left. It would be really cool if it didn't show the total time in the video.

The simple 1 rail kick can sometime result in a safety,or a scratch as you mention. The jump is a 2-way shot, and by no means an very difficult shot to pocket. Imo, this decision is not even close, even if Corteza obviously screw up the jump.
@fastballonly
@fastballonly 15 жыл бұрын
The jumb shot at around 9:25 by Corteza is simply wrong. As Diliberto pointed out, a jump shot at that close distance with little chance of pocketing the ball is not as good as a simple kick shot.

Let me suggest that you read my previous comments once again. I have already explained the comparison between the jump and kick. Once again, " a two- way shot" is a shot in which the player gets safe whether he pockets the object ball or not. He sold out, therefore it was not a two-way shot. Please don't take this badly, but I am afraid that you don't seem to understand the strategies of percentage play....

The weirdest thing happened once. I was playin 9 ball against a friend of mine and I broke the balls and didn't sink anything. The balls were spread like a Cosmo, perfectly laid out, except.... My opponent was taking a long time to study the layout. I asked him whats up and it wasn't till he pointed it out that none of the balls had an obvious pocket. It's hard to describe but the layout was such that all the balls were covered by another.

WOW! Where was Scott at 16:22 ?? It was a good hit but he should have been HOVERING over that. For those who question the hit.. had the cueball hit the 9 first it would have traveled left after pocketing the ball, and more quickly. However, I doubt scott can tell that from 17 feet away.

You are being results oriented. What can the kick accomplish? Cause if the end result is not a hook, than is a bad shot. Do you expect Alcano to miss if you leave him a clear shot on the 4? Even if cant pocket it, he'll play a good safety, and Corteza will have a tougher shot than he has now.

This jump shot was not at all a 2-way shot. You saw him sell out, didn't you? "2-way shot" is a shot in which the shooter gets safe regardless of the pocketing of the object ball. It was not a 2-way shot. The 4 ball was a tough cut in the side pocket and he could have hit the 9 first as well. I am not saying Corteza is incable of this jump shot, if given a few tries. But it was a bad decision on his part. Take my word for it.

i dont get it. Why was he able to move the cue ball at 5:39?
@MikeDu8b
@MikeDu8b 5 жыл бұрын
He was able to move the cue ball because of a rule that says at least three balls must cross the head string, be pocketed (or a combination of both). On the break in question that was not fulfilled so it was ball in hand.

It was such a close jump shot that he could not help a direct hit on the 4. The correct shot was the kick by all means, despite the chance for a scratch in the side. It was avoidable by hitting the 4 full enough on the high side. He certainly has the skills to do so. Jump was a wrong selection.

@fastballonly
@fastballonly 15 жыл бұрын
He sold out as a result of a jumb shot, didn't he? Plus his cue ball hit the 4 directly. In a proper jump shot, the cue ball hits the table before contacting the object ball. Direct contact is condusive to losing control of the balls. He had a simple 1-rail kick off the side rail with a good chance to hit the high side of the 4-ball to separate the cue ball and 4. Though not automatic and comes with a chance to scratch in the side, it would've been a higher percentage shot.
