I mean. That'd prevent access to the bases for a few days to weeks. Doesn't prevent the bases from actually working though. So even if you destroyed the entrance & exit points, the base is still functionally operational. And I'd imagine the Iranians will have prepared for this scenario, and will have plenty of food, sustinance and independent water & electricity systems. Would not be surprised if they also have dozens of emergency pedestrian exit tunnels across a single site. You can destroy the entrances. But really, you're not accomplishing anything. The bases are functional. There are likely contingencies and/or emergency exits built in. And the Iranians will have the manpower and technology to rebuild them in a few days to weeks dependant on damage.

I work as a civil engineer and have had occasion to visit old (1910’s to 1930’s) bank vaults now abandoned . All the old vaults have alternate access via a (hidden) door that looks like a heavy duty porthole. Just enough to climb through. Think about it, failed explosive on the main vault door during a robbery or an earthquake…either might jamb the main vault door. You need some redundancy. You wouldn’t build a bunker without an emergency exit and entrance.

Okay Cappy, I'll get this in so maybe you'll actually see/read it. I worked this exact mission ~a decade ago. Obviously, the specifics have changed, but a lot of the trends and imperatives have not. My thoughts: -Yes, the GBU-57(which we have endlessly tweaked) is probably not able to get to the deepest stuff. The -72 wouldn't be in development or have $7B thrown at it if that weren't the case (although I suspect the need to defeat Chinese super-concrete elsewhere may be a driver as well). The double-tapping idea is new. That would require REALLY damned precise guidance. I'm sure it's possible or it wouldn't be mentioned. Wonder if that works as well on rock as concrete. -The REAL challenge for some time now is less about how deep and hardened their facilities are; more about their program's breadth and redundancy. This is a major reason Israel wants us to do this mission--they know they don't have the capacity anymore. But really, neither do we. Because... -This is not, nor will it ever be a mission to "take out" their nuclear capability. That ship sailed a long time ago. Their program is too-evolved; too redundant. This mission is a first strike to take out what is deemed to be a "sprint" by them to get to the finish line, so we can set their program back a MAXIMUM of ~two years. They absolutely could rebuild it, even if we're hugely successful. And taking that stuff out is a TALL order. CAN we penetrate and successfully prosecute a lot of this? Yes, but we'd almost assuredly not get it all. It's a LOT of shit. -That CSIS notional plan is already huge. It makes this more than a first strike. It makes it all-out war. Big consideration. -No, their ADA is crap. Barely a consideration a decade ago; probably even less now. -Missile hunting has been/is/always will be a high-failure game...until we get precision strike. -The Iranian strategy is to always have the OPTION to build weapons. This is not contestable. Also not contestable is whether or not Iran is TRYING to build weapons. This is farcical. Iran has NEVER decided to "build a weapon," only to continue maturing & thickening its CAPABILITY such that, when/if it ever does it can do so despite all efforts to stop it. It has intentionally used this issue as an opaque Sword of Damacles (Kori Schake wrote about this 26 years ago. TWENTY-SIX) since the 90s. That basic reality has not changed.

Israel is trying to pull us into a larger conflict in the middle east, they are not a partner for peace. We should absolutely not involve ourselves, or our equipment in this conflict. We have no reason to. There's this idea in the air that the U.S. has to help Israel against Iran because if we don't Israel will use their nuclear arsenal, and that will lead to even more death and destruction. At the end of the day, what we should be talking about is ceasing to arm Israel so that they can no longer continue to poke the fucking wasps nest and lead the west into another deadly conflict. But, instead, I guess people want to fantasize about how U.S. weapons will somehow just fly in with no resistance and eliminate Iran's offensive capabilities? I guess we can ignore Hezbollah and Ansar Allah then too? This whole discussion is asinine for so many reasons and completely disingenuous. Iran and other entities have made it very clear what needs to happen for them to cease hostilities, but Israel refuses to accommodate and continues to move the goal post with the help of the United states. If we keep allowing Israel to act with impunity then more U.S. troops will be targeted, our bases in the region will be overrun, and we'll get to do another useless endless war in the middle east. Everyone wants to fearmonger about Iran having nukes, but we walked away from the Iran nuclear deal and allowed Israel to become a rogue nuclear state. The longer we let this go on, the weaker we look to the rest of the word.
@GrigoriZhukov
@GrigoriZhukov 4 ай бұрын
Exactly the ones calling to nuke those sights are...uninformed at best. None have had guard special weapons. Or lived with rules that mean you might shot someone you know because they broke the rules. 2 man rule, I guarded tactical special items.
@zibbitybibbitybop
@zibbitybibbitybop 4 ай бұрын
The problem is that for Israel specifically, Iran even having the ability to build a nuke is an existential threat, let alone them actually building one. You can't expect Israel to just give a country the chance to get nukes when said country routinely expresses their fervent desire to annihilate them. The real question for me is less about bunker busting and more about Mossad's capacity for extensive sabotage. That may be the only way to damage or destroy some of the facilities that are just too difficult to bomb from above.

You paint a nice neat rosey picture of the US attacking Iran. There's a few issues that are likely to put a spanner in the works. US bases all around the region that can easily be attacked from multiple countries in the axis. Gulf oil facilities that can be targetted and the world economy being put in a tail spin if the US went to war with Iran. Then you've got Russia and China who won't sit idely by and watch probably their most strategic partner in the region being attacked. Then of course the US navy has some very big aircraft carriers that make very big targets.. Finally Iran and the axis has home field advantage and have been preparing for just this scenario for decades..

8:15 The GPS system works passively, this means that you don't need your phone for example to send any messages to the satellite. The satellites work as some kind of beacon or "lighthouse" in the sky, a device can calculate its' position by finding the distance from each of the satellites visible. The distance is calculated with precise timing between the satellites and the delay on the receiving end. I'm not sure if the US can block the usage of GPS for Iran by changing the pattern of operation of the transmitter satellites or by completely disabling them over Iran when the US army doesn't need them. It is very very unlikely the US intelligence services can know who and when uses the GPS. Aside of the GPS there is also the Russian and Chinese equivalent systems that can work on the same hardware and might be online when GPS is not. Most modern weapons, even the US ones, probably use all 3 or are designed to be capable of using all 3, they just call it GPS in the west.

The attack package against Israel had a smoke screen of cheap, older, less accurate missiles to deliver their main missiles. Not only did this increase the chances of hitting the target, not only does it prevent waste of older technology, but it also drains Israeli resources in their relatively expensive defense

Spike is a fantastic system, and is the main reason why so many nations were willing to give up their Javelins to Ukraine--most European nations use the Spike now, via the EuroSpike produced in Germany. The US is actually putting them on our Apaches now too, which is a really cool addition to their arsenal. However, I actually suspect that the assassination of Haniyeh was via pre-placed bombs. Iran executed nearly 30 people from that safehouse under suspicion that they might be a mole, which doesn't make any sense if the attack was via a missile launched from 30km away. The staff there wouldn't be the ones responsible. Their reaction here sounds a lot more like they were trying to be absolutely certain to kill a mole who enabled Mossad to set the bombs on-site.

The topic of a U.S. plan to destroy Iran’s missile bases is often linked to tensions between the two nations over Iran’s ballistic missile program, its nuclear ambitions, and its influence in the Middle East.
